Surprise part 2

Apollo could hardly look away. He felt Starbuck and Cassiopeia join him and they too were struck speechless as they looked out the window.

They looked out into a large cavern, excavated from the interior of the asteroid. Lit up from hundreds of lights it sat there, silent and ghost-like, an image they never expected to see before. It sat there with no interior lights on, its armor gleaming in the reflected light of the cavern, a battlestar. It appeared almost identical to the Galactica, and was able to make out the name of the ship, Agamemnon.

All six stood there for several centon before anyone managed to find their voice. It had been the last thing any of them expected to find.

“Um, am I missing something here,” Starbuck said, taking his eyes off the battlestar.

“Not that I know of,” Apollo replied, as confused as everyone else. “Anyone know anything about who built it?” Continue reading…

Surprise Part 1

The low rumble of the Galactica’s engines provided a background noise the crew had long grown accustomed to, even on the hangar. The viper crews worked efficiently at preparing two vipers for launch, going over each checklist twice. Maintaining the vipers were critical in the flight of the human race. Fueling tubes were detached and closed making sure none of the precious fuel spilled, either in the hangar or in space. In a few minutes the vipers would launch out on another patrol. The vipers themselves were in constant maintenance, keeping each one performing flawlessly. If the Cylons showed up and the vipers were not operational, the fleet would be in trouble.

On the bridge of the Galactica, Commander Adama stood watching the preparations for the viper patrol. The patrols were considered critical for the fleet, as their long range abilities allowed him to increase his scanning range for any planets which might have important supplies the fleet might need. They conserved as much as possible, including food, water and fuel. The three most important supplies they needed on their flight from Cylon space.

So far they had been fortunate since their last encounter with a basestar. With Baltar’s help they had destroyed it, and over the past yahren no other Cylons had been encountered. However, the fleet had slowed down slightly due to several ships needing repairs. Another problem for Adama, keeping the older ships never designed for such trips running. He had two such ships which were failing constantly and engineers told him next time they might not be able to repair the ships. Continue reading…

The Sunflare

The Sunflare

by AJ Marks

Patrolling around the edges of Colonial space a group of warships continued their vigilance against any outside threats that might appear. The patrol was made up of five ships centered around the Sunflare, an old battlestar that had long ago been rendered obsolete by the Columbia class battlestars. Along with the Sunflare was the Tiger, a cruiser, that specialized in anti-ship warfare and three frigates that provided anti-fighter defenses.

The Sunflare was one of three ships of the Starfire class. The ships were considered too expensive to build and only marginally effective in battle. The result had been in the loss of the two sister ships in battle leading to the much improved Columbia class. Now the Sunflare spent it’s time patrolling against pirates on the edges of known space.

The Sunflare carried a compliment of thirty vipers to go along with massive firepower, four type X lasers, the most powerful lasers ever fitted on board a Colonial warship. It was the compliment of fighters that many considered to be small considering the fact the Sunflare was almost the same size as a Columbia battlestar. With only twenty-four vipers it lacked the flexibility later warships would have. Continue reading…

October Updates

What’s new for October?

Happy Halloween, and the beginning of the end of the year and festivals.  It won’t be long until I spot Christmas decorations in stores (too early still for me).

Batlestar Argo will continue to be uploaded throughout the month as I continue to work on old and new stories to be uploaded to the new domain name.

Looking back the site has gone through many changes.  At first it was an AOL page back when it hosted free webpages.  In fact, I think if I look around I can still find some old listing for this address.  That was back in 1999 so some friends could read my stories.

When AOL did away with their pages I then created my own domain and developed that site with a limited knowledge of HTML.  Not a lot of fun to actually upload and maintain which is why around 2007 or so the site went into decline with sporadic updates.  Then I discovered WordPress and made it into a blog format.  Easy to upload, create and update.

Then this year had a whole fiasco with the previous hosting site (which was Yahoo).  Then back problems, surgery, learning to walk again and finally got back around to getting a new domain after several months of being down.

Now, I turn to the upcoming NANOWRIMO and am trying to figure out what story I’m going to write this time.
