Buck Rogers – Part 13

Part 13

Buck reached into his pocket and took out the cell phone he had been given, and looked it over slightly disappointed seeing it was searching for a connection. Either the people who kidnapped him didn’t know he had it, or were able to jam it.  He was leaning to not knowing and put it back after silencing the ringer in case someone tried to call and it gave away he was carrying it.

After looking over the doors and windows he turned to his room looking it over before finding a sharp edge which would work on freeing his hands.

It took longer than he hoped but finally managed to free his hands. He then made a careful walk around the room checking everything in the room before sitting down on the bed and going over everything he had, which wasn’t much.

“Well Buck, this is a fine mess you’ve gotten yourself into,” he said to himself. “Now, how to get out of here?” Continue reading…

Part 12

Buck felt nervous, and hungry as he was escorted to meet the President of the UAC and was currently going through security checks. Raising his hands for the pat down he thought it was strange, they did this but he did not have to do this while seeing the king of the Draconian Empire.  It felt a bit odd that the group which seemed the most controlling did not require it.

Finally the guard motioned for him to go and he waited for his translator. He might be well known, but he still was unable to speak the native languages on most places on Earth.  In a way he felt relieved that English had not changed much.

A short, bald man with a thin moustache, which reminded him of a Chinese master in some Kung-Fu movie, approached him and bowed which Buck returned.

“Welcome to our country, I am President Tin Chin,” the man said. Continue reading…

Part 11

Buck walked into the same room he met many council members the first time he came back to Earth, this time there were a few more people in the room sitting waiting for him to enter this time. He spotted the normal people, the Chancellor, Mark and Twiki who had brought Doctor Theopolis into the room.  Taking a seat he waited to hear what it was about to this time.  He had a feeling he knew it was about the attack which occurred yesterday shortly after he came back from the Draconian Empire.

“Captain Rogers, welcome back,” the Chancellor said. “We’d like to clear some things with you.”

“Has to do with the attack, I have no idea about it,” Buck said back to him, looking at the others.

“I highly doubt that,” Mark said jumping into the conversation rather quickly, something Buck was expecting.

“A week ago I was preparing for a test flight in space, testing a warp, or FTL, drive, a first for humanity,” Buck said to him. “Now, I’ve been thrust into something I have no idea about, no clue about, nor anything else.  I have no idea how I was supposed to even do half the things you’re trying to accuse me of.” Continue reading…

Buck watched as Twiki settled in the passenger seat across from him as the transport took off towards his apartment building.

“You actually think I’m innocent?” Buck asked, wondering if the logical mind of the robot actually thought that way, or was saying something to be sounding logical.

“Of course, the odds of it occurring any other way are too great, and it would indicate that the Rizonians are also in on what is going on, which is, at best, far-fetched,” Theopolis said. “For them to be operating with another race would be against everything they stand for, and if they really wanted such things, there are other, better races to work with.”

Buck had forgotten there were other races out there, many of which he had never even met, or heard of yet. Continue reading…

Part 9

Buck felt relieved at being back on Earth after his trip to the Draconian Empire. The trip opened his eyes a bit to current politics, and that the two empires were not really that friendly.  The few people he asked about the NAA he received answers that they were full of dumb, oppressed people who could not speak for themselves, yet at the same time he had a feeling they were unable to freely speak either.  It would be a difficult adjustment for him, used to being able to speak freely if he was suddenly gagged in what he could, and could not say.

Standing beside Wilma he felt a bit better around her than he had around Ardala, who seemed to want to jump him at every opportunity. She was attractive, it did become tiresome after a while and he wondered if she ever relaxed.

“So, the trip was all right?” Wilma asked. Continue reading…

Buck sat in the transport with Dave as they rode to another city to give another interview. He was scheduled for a couple of days, and then after that to return back to Earth.  He looked over Dave a bit wondering what he thought of the Draconian Empire, and probably felt it was normal, like many other things.

“So, how’d you get in this line of work Dave?” Buck asked, not really wanting to sit in silence, as the more he say the more it was harder to get out what he had done last night.

“College, and then was recruited by the kings recruiters, they are always in the colleges and universities looking for new talent,” Dave said. “They liked my paper on history, and the way I could naturally organize.” Continue reading…

Part 7

Buck looked on at the interior of the shuttle after being invited aboard by Ardala, and what almost was a scene at the dock between her and Wilma. Buck knew then the two woman didn’t like each other, and wondered if there wasn’t more going on between the two which he did not read about.

He looked around, expecting some sort of dark, dreary furnishing and was surprised by the lavish furnishing it had and compared it to the shuttle when he came back from the Rizonian Empire. This shuttle was more plush, comfortable, designed for luxury.

“I hope this is to your liking?” Ardala said slinking in and lounging in one of the sofas giving him a long look.

“Not quite my style, but, it’s very nice,” Buck finally said trying to be honest. True he wasn’t used to such luxury when traveling, most airplanes lacked such things back where he came from. Continue reading…

Part 6

Buck watched as she turned her fighter which he had work to keep up with, adjusting his heading and then speed to match hers as he had to recall which what controlled his speed.

Suddenly he watched as ‘lasers’ streaked back and forth between Wilma’s fighter and the oncoming fighters. She quickly banked which he followed, staying on her wing.  He noticed a small explosion occurred and one of the dots winked out leaving three as he looked on before realizing one was angling around behind them.

“We have one coming around,” Buck said to her.

“Stay with it, lining up the next one,” she said, and Buck saw the flash of lasers again and another dot winked out once more. He looked on seeing Wilma was heading towards the last one, but the other one was about to get in behind them.  Taking and the lead he swung around seeing the targeting crosshairs appear.  It quickly lined up the target before opening fire. Continue reading…

“Welcome back, we’re with Captain William Roger, the latest sensation from the past,” the woman said turning to Buck. “So, what’s is like going into the future?”

“Thanks for having me here,” Buck said. “I’m fine with Buck, it’s what everyone called me.  As for going to the future, it takes some getting used to.”

“What’s the one thing that surprises you the most so far?” the man asked.

“How tall the buildings are,” Buck replied still unsure about it all, but the view he had this morning getting up and enjoying breakfast was very nice. “I grew up with urban sprawl, not tall half a mile high buildings which housed almost everyone in the city, and how you can live entirely in the building.” Continue reading…

Part 4

Buck followed Wilma as they entered one of the shopping areas I the building. They had gone up to the hundredth floor and Wilma seemed to know exactly where she was going.  He noticed there were few people around as they entered one clothing shop.

“Ah, Colonel Deering, a pleasure to see you again,” a man said dressed in what appeared to be a suit. “How can I help you today?”

“I need a suit, or something to go to a press conference for him,” Wilma said pointing to Buck.

“Yes, I can see why, rags he’s wearing, what century did you get that, the twentieth?” the man replied.

“Twenty-first,” Buck replied back completely honest watching the man blink before moving back to the shelves of clothes.

“Let’s see, he appears to be a men’s size ten,” the man said. Continue reading…
