Part 12<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cTalos worshipping is not negotiable,\u201d Valis said, standing up at the table and glaring at the others.<\/p>\n

Zoe waited a few seconds to see how the others would react.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I said its all but impossible to enforce without losing our ability to lead.\u00a0 Its one of the problems which led to the Stormcloak uprising,\u201d Tullius replied to him.<\/p>\n

She could see that Valis was being as stubborn as ever with this point.\u00a0 He wanted absolute verification that no Talos worshipping was happening anywhere in Skyrim.\u00a0 She slightly smirked knowing that she had a couple of shrines of Talos at the Suite.\u00a0 Surprisingly it was Elewen who spoke up next placing a hand on Valis\u2019 arm to silence him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe general is correct, we must tread lightly,\u201d she said to him. \u00a0He looked ready to say more when she merely glared at him for a moment.\u00a0 He seemed to stop looking at her before finally sitting back down, anger written all over his face as Elewen continued.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m sorry, perhaps you can try to prevent any further Talos worshipping?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can try, but like Skoma, its hard to eliminate,\u201d Elisf stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs long as you are trying,\u201d Elewen stated forestalling any further outburst by Valis.<\/p>\n

Zoe waited quietly as they discussed it some more while she went back to the conversation last night.\u00a0 Should she tell Valis?\u00a0 Part of her wanted nothing more than to just ignore him and hoped he got what was coming to him.\u00a0 Still, a part of her knew the right thing would be to remind him at least.\u00a0 If he didn\u2019t take the warning then it wasn\u2019t her fault.<\/p>\n

They called a recess and people went out for a drink or just t stretch.\u00a0 Zoe looked around spotting where Valis went and went after him.\u00a0 Much to her dismay he saw her approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, reconsidering?\u201d he asked.\u00a0 \u201cI have lots of power.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m a Thane in most cities up here, head of the Companions and Archmage of the College of Winterhold, you have nothing to offer me, but I might to you,\u201d Zoe said back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI doubt that,\u201d he stated, trying to hold an air of superiority over her.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you recall the day I left?\u00a0 The day you rigged that fight,\u201d Zoe said deciding to tell him, maybe.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have no proof,\u201d he replied back smugly but the fact he still could remember meant he had some part in it.\u00a0 \u201cHolding a grudge still?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHardly, you can deny it, but we both know the truth,\u201d Zoe said, inwardly smirking because she knew the truth.\u00a0 \u201cBut that\u2019s beside the point.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, I thought that would be the central issue for you,\u201d he replied.\u00a0 \u201cYou had a lot of bad luck that day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I had some good luck that day,\u201d Zoe replied watching as he appeared shocked.\u00a0 \u201cI received a letter to come up here and met a seer.\u201d<\/p>\n

His blank face meant he had forgotten it, not that I surprised her.<\/p>\n

\u201cA seer, what nonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, she mentioned that the World Eater had returned, meaning Alduin who I defeated and that I had powers in me.\u00a0 She meant I was Dragonborn,\u201d Zoe said to him.<\/p>\n

Valis peshawed the statement showing how little he valued what had been said that day.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe also mentioned a vision to you, don\u2019t come to Skyrim or you will die,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat, are you going to kill me?\u201d Valis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, but I thought you deserved a reminder, guess I shouldn\u2019t have bothered,\u201d Zoe said, knowing it didn\u2019t matter what she said to him he would dismiss it.\u00a0 His large ego wouldn\u2019t allow anything else.<\/p>\n

\u201cConcerned about my health?\u201d Valis asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t flatter yourself, I\u2019ve got a lover who is much better looking,\u201d Zoe replied back to him watching as he seemed to consider that.\u00a0 \u201cAnd if you lay a finger on her, there is no where you can hide that I won\u2019t find you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou forget my position,\u201d Valis said smugly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I wouldn\u2019t care,\u201d Zoe replied back, looking him right in the eyes watching as he stepped back.\u00a0 \u201cYou\u2019re dealing with someone you don\u2019t know or understand anymore.\u00a0 I\u2019m not the weak, easily bullied girl you knew.\u00a0 I\u2019ve fought dragons on this plane of existence and beyond, battles you could only imagine, battles for the bards and won.\u00a0 What makes me think you\u2019re any better?\u00a0 I\u2019ve slashed though small armies on my own and only grown more powerful.\u00a0 I\u2019d be careful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that a threat?\u201d Valis asked his smug expression.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, merely a warning, take it for what you wish, not that you\u2019ve ever cared what anyone else has to say, especially if they are not a Thalmor,\u201d Zoe replied back to him, then turned and walked away from him.\u00a0 She gave her warning and if he chose to ignore it that was his problem not hers.<\/p>\n

Moving over to grab a drink she drank half of it in one swig before noticing Elewen heading her direction.\u00a0 Zoe wondered what she wanted.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeems like you and Valis have quite a lot to talk about,\u201d Elewen stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cOld history from before I came to Skyrim, but he hasn\u2019t change a bit,\u201d Zoe replied, trying to be diplomatic.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe does hold quite a bit of power now, a rising star within the Thalmor,\u201d she said, but something about the way she said it indicated she had some reservations about him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen he was a fool to come up here,\u201d Zoe said.\u00a0 \u201cIf the seer was correct, he will die up here.\u201d<\/p>\n

That got her attention real fast.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeer?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, a seer who told me the World Eater had returned, and that I had a great power within me,\u201d Zoe replied to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cDragonborn.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s my thought, but she also said that if Valis goes to Skyrim he\u2019ll die,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

The look Elewen gave her wasn\u2019t what she expected, almost as if she was thinking of something herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cStill, it looked intense,\u201d Elewen said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s made threats against me, and done things which I won\u2019t tolerate anymore, Thalmor or not,\u201d Zoe replied back calmly watching Elewen\u2019s reactions.\u00a0 \u201cHe has some sort of obsession for me as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI see, all I\u2019ve ever seen is his thirst for power,\u201d Elewen stated but peering at Zoe a bit more.\u00a0 \u201cAre you sure we haven\u2019t met?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps in passing, I\u2019ve been all over,\u201d Zoe replied, not saying they actually met when she snuck into the Thalmor embassy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, perhaps, and you are well known,\u201d Elewen stated, \u201cand you were against the Stormcloak rebellion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, but still, despite my, dislike, of Valis having him die while part of these meetings would look bad on us all,\u201d Zoe said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re right, I shall take this seriously,\u201d Elewen said.\u00a0 \u201cThank you for being honest, Nords need more like you in power.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI doubt that, thanks to Valis I dislike the Thalmor,\u201d Zoe replied honestly causing Elewen to chuckle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen things haven\u2019t changed at all,\u201d she said before walking away leaving Zoe wondering what she meant.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny problems?\u201d Jordis asked, coming up to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you warn him?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, but like the arrogant ass he is, ignored it,\u201d Zoe replied back to her.\u00a0 \u201cCome on, let\u2019s get back before they miss us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zoe felt more relaxed, things had been completed and now she could think about heading back in the morning.\u00a0 She had gone around making sure there was nothing else which she was needed for.\u00a0 Everything seemed to be back to normal.\u00a0 Sitting she heard a knock on the door and frowned but headed out to answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes?\u201d she asked, seeing two men dressed in leather armor and a third in fine clothes.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking for someone, perhaps you\u2019ve seen or heard of him.\u00a0 They say he\u2019s staying here, name\u2019s Brandis,\u201d the man finely dressed said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is, and you are?\u201d Zoe asked, feeling herself gear up for a fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cNone of your business,\u201d the man replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs my business partner, I\u2019d say there is,\u201d Zoe said, her patience running thin.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe owes us money, borrowed too heavily, and we\u2019re here to collect,\u201d the man said with a slight smile, as the other two shifted trying to appear menacing to her.\u00a0 She looked at the two men, then the leader even as Brandis and the others appeared behind her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI paid you off Aaron,\u201d Brandis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was just the initial fee,\u201d the man in fine clothes, who Zoe assumed was Arron, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, you said it was paid in full,\u201d Jordis said speaking up.\u00a0 \u201cThat he didn\u2019t owe anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI forgot about his other, expenses,\u201d Aaron said as if searching for a word.<\/p>\n

\u201cSounds like extortion to me,\u201d Zoe said.\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, and what will you do, I\u2019d be careful of pissing me off lady, I know people in high places,\u201d Aaron said, giving his threat.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I am in positions of power, and I\u2019m not a pushover either,\u201d Zoe replied waiting for them to make a move, not surprised when they did.<\/p>\n

Shaking her head she was already prepared for such a move.\u00a0 The two thugs were already drawing their weapons<\/p>\n

Zun Haal Viik<\/em><\/p>\n

Her shout quickly disarmed the men as they seemed to stagger slightly at what happened even as the others behind her were gearing up.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re outclassed here,\u201d Zoe said to them, walking up to the man.\u00a0 \u201cI have no problem disposing of a few more thugs and lowlifes, and I don\u2019t need a weapon to dispose of you. \u00a0I know enough shouts to render you harmless to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The leader seemed to hesitate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI trust my Housecarl more than you and she says Brandis paid you off.\u00a0 My word will count a lot more in court than yours,\u201d Zoe stated.\u00a0 \u201cNow, you\u2019re starting to piss me off.\u201d<\/p>\n

The leader and two thugs backed down and started to leave.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t forget this,\u201d the leader said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd next time I might not be in such a good mood,\u201d Zoe replied back to him before heading back inside the house and closing the door.<\/p>\n

\u201cJerk,\u201d Jordis said, heading back to the table and sitting down.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot surprised, his types continue to extort who they consider weak,\u201d Zoe said.\u00a0 \u201cIf they try again they either have a serious backer, or are stupid.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d vote for the latter,\u201d Leah said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOr they saw three woman,\u201d Zoe said watching Leah shake her head at that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019d be eaten alive at the Suite,\u201d she said.\u00a0 Zoe knew the truth as despite all the workers, aside from OMB, were women they were all very capable warriors and sorcerers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, hopefully they don\u2019t make that mistake, but then again they could be that dumb,\u201d Zoe said, not that she had any doubt of the capabilities of anyone there.\u00a0 Then you also had Farquar outside most days, a very capable warrior who took his duties to seriously.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d feel sorry for them, I doubt Wyla would be so gentle,\u201d Leah said talking about the blonde Nord at the suite.\u00a0 Her long blonde hair and blue eyes seemed to give off an innocence, until you angered her.\u00a0 Then the fact she was a fully capable warrior came out.<\/p>\n

Zoe shook the image from her mind as she sat down.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know how to handle yourselves in a fight,\u201d Brandis said to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cLots of practice,\u201d Zoe replied.\u00a0 \u201cOf course shouts help as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, never seen anything like that before,\u201d Brandis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIts not a common thing, either takes a lot of work to learn, or like me, its in your blood,\u201d Zoe said, though she never quite understood it all either as they sat back down at the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cThink they\u2019ll stop?\u201d Leah asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cHard to tell,\u201d Zoe replied honestly.\u00a0 \u201cSeen both types, though I\u2019m not really afraid of the Suite from them.\u00a0 A larger backer might be a problem, but I doubt they\u2019ll want to tangle too much with us.\u201d<\/p>\n

She watched Leah nod her head in agreement.\u00a0 She wondered what tomorrow might bring.<\/p>\n
