Part 5<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Apollo appeared on the surface of the planet at Boomer\u2019s request along with a few more people. The report had been they discovered some survivors but there seemed to be some problems.<\/p>\n

He looked around seeing Boomer standing there along with the team, along with a few others. They had a rough look to them, like they had been barely surviving for a while now.\u00a0 The ship itself looked in bad shape but some areas had obviously fixed up.\u00a0 He moved forward heading towards the person he hoped was the leader.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother one?\u201d the man said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m Captain Apollo of the Galactica,\u201d Apollo said using his rank from when he was still on board the original Galactica here in this system. \u201cSon of Commander Adama.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are all dead,\u201d the man replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, we passed though the Stargate and into another system and survived,\u201d Apollo stated. \u201cWe\u2019ve returned to see what is going on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cImpossible, no way could you have returned in such a short amount of time, especially from another galaxy,\u201d the man replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is technology which we don\u2019t know about allowing ships to travel long distances in a much shorter amount of time,\u201d Apollo stated. \u201cYou were one of the group which ran away, how did you manage to survive?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLuck,\u201d the man replied back. \u201cOur ship was faster than the others, but still took a lot of damage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow many are here?\u201d Apollo asked, wondering how many he might be able to take. He could always send them to the base.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly about thirty of us survived,\u201d the man said.<\/p>\n

Apollo nodded knowing that they had suffered tremendously after everything which happened and considered his own ship\u2019s capabilities. It could handle thirty more people for a trip back considering it was leaving people behind this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re welcome to come aboard our ship and head to a safe area,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy should we believe you?\u201d the man asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, you can either join up with us and come back, or stay here and live in constant fear of the Cylons finding you,\u201d Boomer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d make up your mind quickly,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

He watched the man think even as another couple of people joined him.<\/p>\n

\u201cJonas, we can\u2019t stay here,\u201d a woman said to him. \u201cYou and I know the crops are failing.\u00a0 If the children are to have any hope, this is it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apollo noticed the man seemed stubborn over this, and was probably the reason why he didn\u2019t go through the stargate.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou made one bad choice and convinced us you were right, this time, I\u2019m not following,\u201d another man said stepping forward. \u201cI\u2019ll go no matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n

It seemed like his words broke a dam and several others stepped forward saying they were going.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you plan go get us off here?\u201d one woman asked moving forward with a young child.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll be easy,\u201d Apollo said, moving away slightly. \u201cCommander Apollo to Galactica,\u201d he said waiting a second.<\/p>\n

\u201cGalactica here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have a lock on the people here?\u201d Apollo asked, and got silence for a few seconds.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking on it now,\u201d the reply came back.<\/p>\n

\u201cGalactica?\u201d Jonas asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a new one, constructed by us, and we decided to name it Galactica in honor of the battlestar,\u201d Apollo said. \u201cIt\u2019s got some very advanced technology, and a lot of colonial tech as well.\u00a0 It\u2019s a complex issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTransporters are ready.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTransporters?\u201d Jonas asked, seeing that others appeared confused as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cBasically we beam you up, no shuttles,\u201d Apollo said. \u201cIts how we came down.\u00a0 Perfectly safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apollo watched as they seemed confused by that and he took a moment to step aside to talk to the ship.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be beaming up about thirty survivors, all ages,\u201d he told them.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery well sir,\u201d the reply came back. \u201cWe\u2019ll work on arrangements for housing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apollo turned back to the group waiting to hear their answer and it was the woman who spoke up.<\/p>\n

\u201cBring everyone here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Several ran off heading in different directions to an unknown area. Apollo looked at Jonas who appeared to want to argue but remained quiet.\u00a0 Apollo wondered if the man had convinced the others it was safer to remain than leave.\u00a0 He was also someone who might want power.\u00a0 He made a mental note to inform Tigh and his father about this guy.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Samantha looked up as Mitchell walked into the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cCam, what\u2019s going on?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeen kinda boring lately,\u201d Cam replied back to her. \u201cEver since the last system lord was eliminated, and that excursion where the Colonials were discovered, it seems like things have gotten quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t say that,\u201d Sam said to him. \u201cThe universe has a way of making things exciting for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019ve seen,\u201d he said sitting down. \u201cSo, what happened with the Lucian Alliance?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot sure, we were able to send them the information, but they seemed unreceptive to our advice,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTypical,\u201d Cam replied back to her. \u201cNow that the Gou\u2019ald are gone they think they are the big power in the galaxy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, we\u2019re not doing much to fill that power vacuum, been trying to convince our superiors that we need to be more active but they don\u2019t want to do anything,\u201d Sam said finally.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeaven forbid we tell the public about it, and get some private companies to help colonize other planets,\u201d Cam stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, the experts still don\u2019t think it would be wise to do that,\u201d Sam said, privately she was torn with such a thing. They couldn\u2019t keep the Stargate quiet forever, and they would need to start informing the public about it all.\u00a0 There was a lot which needed to be said about what had happened in the past ten plus years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe war against the Goa\u2019uld, then the Ori, exploring another galaxy and getting into another war with the Wraith, yeah, I guess I can see where some might seem to think all we\u2019ve done is create conflict. Doesn\u2019t matter we didn\u2019t want that conflict,\u201d Cam said finally.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd now this entire thing with the Lucian Alliance, and add in the Colonials and the far threat of the Cylons, it might not be the best time to involve the public yet,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpeaking of the Colonials, how are they settling in?\u201d Cam asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpoke with Colonel Tigh, had a Lucian Alliance agent try to infiltrate their society, was easily spotted,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re probably trying to figure out how he got spotted so easily,\u201d Cam said. \u201cThey are a close group.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, surviving what they have I can see why,\u201d Sam said. \u201cIn a way, I\u2019m glad though, it allowed us to see their plans a bit easier.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI heard the base is set up to look for Cylons?\u201d Cam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, and they want to expand the number of bases, can\u2019t say I blame them. One base isn\u2019t enough,\u201d Sam stated seeing as he looked on with some thought.<\/p>\n

\u201cMight be dangerous, the more bases we have the more likely we are to be discovered,\u201d Cam answered.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut one base doesn\u2019t allow us to get a good view of what\u2019s going on in that universe,\u201d Sam replied back.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought the idea was to be stealthy about it,\u201d Cam replied back.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, but a few bases would increase our ability to discover what\u2019s going on in that galaxy,\u201d Sam said. The same arguments she warred with Cam was tossing back at her.\u00a0 She only hoped making a few more bases would be the right thing to do.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Apollo looked around as people came walking up with an anxious looks. At the moment he wished he was dressed in his more normal colonial pilot\u2019s outfit, instead of the new blue uniforms which were used by those of Earth, or the Tau\u2019ri as they were called in the other galaxy.<\/p>\n

Off to the side Jonas appeared worried, but the woman, Gina, had taken charge and seemed almost relieved that this happened. He watched as she approached him.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re all here now,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay,\u201d Apollo said. \u201cWe\u2019ll be going up in groups of about four, stand over here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apollo led them to a spot which had been set up for the transportation. They could have done more, but it was decided to go in smaller groups to void overcrowding, and to allow the people to be set up on board the ship.<\/p>\n

In seconds the first group vanished, having been beamed up onto the Galactica, along with Boomer, who went up to help get things settled. When the Galactica was ready for the next group they radioed down to inform Apollo.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou really survived in this other galaxy?\u201d Jonas asked walking over during a downtime between groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, its very different,\u201d Apollo said. \u201cThere are problems there as well, new enemies, alliances, but no Cylons.\u00a0 We\u2019ve created a new settlement, called it New Caperica with the help of the Tau\u2019ri.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTau\u2019ri?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThose from Earth, it\u2019s what they call themselves over there,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what do they call us?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Colonials,\u201d Apollo answered.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis ship, the Galactica, who controls it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth of us, we are working to be close allies with them. The Tau\u2019ri are themselves fractured, many nations on their homeworld.\u00a0 Most don\u2019t even know they are spacefaring right now.\u00a0 They war amongst themselves, we actually provide a stable colony and government separate of the Tau\u2019ri,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

He noticed a look of disbelief on Jonas\u2019 face.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t mistake them, they are a powerhouse in the galaxy despite their flaws,\u201d Apollo said. It had taken him a bit of time to fully understand the impact they had made while travelling though the stargate.\u00a0 It was almost unbelievable to him.<\/p>\n

He looked over at the next group went up, things were progressing smoothly. It wouldn\u2019t take them long to beam everyone up on board the Galactica.\u00a0 Of course they would have to settle in for the journey back home.<\/p>\n

The next group went up as everything appeared to be going smoothly. He looked back over at Jonas who appeared to be thinking about something, but said nothing else.\u00a0 Apollo decided not to push it and went back to work, looking around the ship to see if anything might be salvageable later on.<\/p>\n

The ship had taken a beating that much he was certain of. The ship probably housed a couple of hundred, and only thirty remained.\u00a0 He wondered if there were any other groups out there like this one, struggling to survive.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlmost done,\u201d Boomer said to him causing Apollo to turn from his inspection of the ship.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, let\u2019s get out of here,\u201d Apollo said, heading over to beam up.<\/p>\n

Upon arriving back on board the ship he noticed people were working with the survivors. Seeing that everything was going well he made his way to the bridge.\u00a0 Reaching it he went over to the command chair.<\/p>\n

\u201cSituation?\u201d Apollo asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo far, nothing, wait,\u201d the of the officers said looking down at his scanner. \u201cScanners indicate a ship moving into the system.<\/p>\n

\u201cIdentity?\u201d Apollo asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cRunning it now,\u201d the reply came back.<\/p>\n

Apollo waited a few seconds as a lot of different situations came to mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cCylon, basestar, Hades class,\u201d the reply came back.<\/p>\n

\u201cJump engines online, take us out of the system, but not back to the base, plot to another system,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot back to the base?\u201d the reply came back, confused.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, don\u2019t want them to know the direction we\u2019re going,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

He heard the engines start to power up as the rest of the bridge crew worked to get things done. It took only a few minutes, but seemed longer to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cFighters launching from the basestar,\u201d another report said, something which didn\u2019t surprise Apollo. It was almost standard procedure by the Cylons.\u00a0 He figured they would not be expecting the ship to leave so quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cJump engines ready, coordinates set,\u201d Apollo heard.<\/p>\n

\u201cJump,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He knew after this short jump out of the range of the Cylon basestar they would jump back to the base and report in what happened. He had not expected to discover a basestar so quickly.\u00a0 In a way he was fortunate to run across those survivors.\u00a0 He figured the basestar was there to check out the wreckage again.<\/p>\n
