Part 4<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBomber?\u201d Randy asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, there was a rumor going around before the invasion that designers had finished with a bomber design to compliment the fighters. It would carry heavy weapons, never heard what they were, only that the bombers wouldn\u2019t be able to be housed in the battle-cruisers and a new ship was to be built for it,\u201d Meia said, thinking back to that time.\u00a0 \u201cAt the time I was a lowly Epislon class citizen, so they wouldn\u2019t have told me much about it.\u00a0 They thought I only had the ability to carry out orders and nothing else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we now have a new weapon to worry about,\u201d Randy stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew weapon or not, do you think we can pull off such a deception?\u201d Jack asked looking over at Meia and Randy.<\/p>\n

Meia felt unsure about it and looked over at Randy who seemed to be thinking about the situation closely.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t\u2019 think the crew of the Akagi will be much of a problem, and the Bismarck, they both know Meia well, it\u2019s the rest of the ships in the fleet we use which will be the problem,\u201d Randy finally said after a few seconds of thinking.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow many ships are we talking about here admiral?\u201d Amy asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt least two battle-cruisers, two cruiser and a half a dozen destroyers, oh, and add in a couple of scout ships and supply ships, say about fifteen,\u201d Randy finally stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan this mission succeed and still provide a defense for the Alliance?\u201d Amy asked, not looking over at Jack.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think so, the first fleet is protecting Corestar, the second is here at Pacifica,\u201d Jack replied. \u201cThe number of the ships needed are already in the strike fleet so it wouldn\u2019t be a large strain on our defenses.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we have a plan?\u201d Randy asked as Meia looked on to see what they would say on this risky plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a go.\u201d<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

\u201cRandy wait up a second,\u201d Randy heard his father say and turned to see him walking towards them. \u201cCan I have a word with you alone?\u201d<\/p>\n

Randy looked over at Meia then back at his father before replying. \u201cSure,\u201d turning to Meia, \u201cI\u2019ll call a meeting when I get back for the crew to let them know.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSounds good,\u201d Meia replied as she turned and then raced out though the rain to the shuttle before Randy turned back to his father.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s up?\u2019 he asked, and when his father seemed to hesitate about saying anything he knew what it was about. The same question he asked himself many times already as they walked over into a private room.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you sure about this?\u201d his father said closing the door.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I wasn\u2019t sure I wouldn\u2019t have mentioned it,\u201d Randy replied back honestly. \u201cI think Meia has the right idea, the hardest part will be what she has to do, not the battles.\u00a0 That is a side show to the entire operation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMeia, she looked fine, a bit nervous, more than usual, but I thought it might have to do with her being captured and cloned and such,\u201d Jack stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, that did, but she\u2019s also quite shy about leadership positions, that she somehow lacks the ability to be a good leader. I blame her no good uncle for that,\u201d Randy replied back to him.\u00a0 He had seen how she would do in leadership positions, and he had feeling she\u2019d make a terrific empress for the Empire, and one who would spread peace between the Cimalian Empire and the Alliance.\u00a0 He also knew when it happened he would lose a friend he cared for a lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, you really think this mission can be successful?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I do,\u201d Randy replied. \u201cThe hardest part will be the rebellion within the Empire.\u00a0 We need someone to work with the group there and the warships.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMeia can\u2019t be in two places at once,\u201d his father said. \u201cLast time it had almost disastrous results for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only thing I know for sure in this war, Meia is the center of it all. How the war ends will be up to her wither she likes it or not,\u201d Randy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow you sound like your mother.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe I inherited some of her abilities,\u201d Randy replied back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat, last thing I need, another one just like her,\u201d Jack said but he smiled. \u201cI\u2019ll let your mother know, she\u2019ll be thrilled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Randy smiled at that as well. \u201cI\u2019m not sure I like it or not, but a feeling I have that she\u2019s the key to this all, always has been.\u00a0 The more I learn about her and her life its almost as if the universe is conspiring to make sure she\u2019s the leader of the Cimalian Empire.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe shall see, oh yea, I want you to take three battle-cruisers instead of two. If you do face that carrier, you\u2019ll need the extra fighter protection,\u201d his father said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat carrier, it\u2019ll be something for John to work out,\u201d Randy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh yes, how is your friend?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDoing well, takes his time with the missions and operations, makes sure the fighters are trained to the best of his ability,\u201d Randy said. \u201cHe still misses Pam, but he won\u2019t say it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf things hadn\u2019t been so bad for the military I\u2019d have made sure that situation never happened,\u201d his father said as they were quiet for several seconds.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the time we had no idea what was going on, and you were more concerned with the budget than anything else,\u201d Randy replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can recall, never expected Senator Lamic\u2019s visit to mean he wanted to end the military, or course no one realized he was a Cimalian spy either.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThought you were going to flip out when you finally found out,\u201d Randy replied surprised it was all less than year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was angry at myself, I sent a friend into danger without analyzing the situation which was in front of me. Something I won\u2019t do again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re aware of the enemy now and I think now the object is to confuse the enemy into thinking there is another side they can choice, a good plan actually,\u201d Randy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope so, we\u2019re staking a lot on this plan. The new class won\u2019t be ready for at least another year, perhaps two, and the Bismarck has yet to complete refits.\u00a0 I want you take the Hood with your fleet as well,\u201d his father said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you think so, they finally completed repairs to the ship?\u201d Randy asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, Captain Buck Etro will be the commanding officer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll do good,\u201d Randy said, looking outside and seeing the rain ease up. \u201cI should probably get going, tell mom I love her and I\u2019ll try to get by sometime.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll tell her, but I think she understands,\u201d his father said. \u201cBe sure to come back safely once more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the one thing I\u2019ll be thinking of,\u201d Randy said, giving his father a hug before heading out of the room and towards the waiting shuttle.<\/p>\n

He looked up at the clouds knowing the rain was to keep up for the next couple of days and figured he should visit Alpha Centauri, a nice and dry climate for a change. He walked onto the shuttle instructing the pilot to head up to the fleet.<\/p>\n

Carl made his way back into his apartment knowing his wife wouldn\u2019t get back home for another hour or so. Since the incident with Meia they had both been laying low and trying to avoid contact with anyone from the rebellion considering Meia\u2019s warning.\u00a0 The buzzer rang causing him to jump slightly knowing he wasn\u2019t expecting anyone.<\/p>\n

He activated the communicator wondering who it might be and hoping it wasn\u2019t anyone looking for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey Carl, its Frank,\u201d the voice said as Carl sighed in relief at who it was even as Frank continued on. \u201cIts cold out here, you gonna let me in or what.\u00a0 I forgot my jacket.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, come on up,\u201d Carl said, buzzing him into the building and walking over to the door cautiously watching for anyone other than Frank to come with down the hallway feeling relieved when he only saw Frank.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou okay man?\u201d Frank asked when he reached the door.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, just a bit jumpy with everything that happened lately,\u201d Carl replied back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou might say that\u2019s why I\u2019m here,\u201d Frank said hesitantly. \u201cThe leaders of the resistance, they\u2019ve been asking about you, want to know when you\u2019re coming around again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen they\u2019re crazier than I thought,\u201d Carl replied back to him. He hadn\u2019t let anyone else know of the warning Meia had given him.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe, but a lot of people are talking, you know that\u2019s not a good thing,\u201d Frank said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFigured, that\u2019s another reason why we\u2019ve stayed away,\u201d Carl said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, you do know more than you\u2019re saying,\u201d Frank said suddenly catching Carl off guard.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot really, just a warning from a friend of a friend,\u201d Carl said unsure about revealing any more about Meia to anyone else. He really had no idea who he could trust anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome on Carl, we\u2019ve been friends for decades, worked together, trained together, and now this? I don\u2019t get it, and I know others won\u2019t either,\u201d Frank said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, you know then I have a good reason for thinking the way I do,\u201d Carl said looking his friend in the eye. \u201cI have some things I need to work out on my own first.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you want me to tell the others, most already think you\u2019re reporting back to the emperor,\u201d Frank said. \u201cYou\u2019re not giving me much to go on here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know I\u2019m not, how could I be,\u201d Frank replied hurt his friend thought that.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, this does have to do with that woman I heard about,\u201d Frank replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d Carl said, sitting down and drumming his fingers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are saying everyone died in that attack on the spaceport,\u201d Frank stated. \u201cEveryone who went with her died in that attempt, and the enforcers are slowly rounding some of us up.\u00a0 They are saying she was a spy for the Emperor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carl thought about that for several seconds before replying. \u201cWhat about the leaders?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey picked up Earl shortly afterwards,\u201d Frank stated.<\/p>\n

Carl gave it some thought and what Meia had told him and how Earl probably wasn\u2019t working with the Emperor. He sat back in his chair and wondered how she had known and what to tell Frank.\u00a0 He had been a close friend for years but the stakes now seemed so much higher than ever before.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, Meia confided in me she thought Earl was the only one of the leadership who wasn\u2019t reporting to the Emperor. Now that he\u2019s been picked up and the others haven\u2019t, sounds suspicious to me,\u201d Carl finally replied to his friend.<\/p>\n

He waited but his friend seemed unconvinced at the words.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis bout it. They know you\u2019re part of the resistance and as long as you serve a purpose things will be fine.\u00a0 I started to lay low and what happened,\u201d Carl said looking at Frank.\u00a0 \u201cThey are laying some of the blame on me.\u00a0 What if Meia actually managed to leave?\u00a0 You realize she is the rightful ruler?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t\u2019 know, I\u2019ll think about it, but something doesn\u2019t feel right,\u201d Frank said heading to the door with Carl behind him. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t\u2019 lay low for too long my friend.\u00a0 Things seem to be changing quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, I\u2019ll think about it,\u201d Carl said watching as Frank exited the room.<\/p>\n

Carl thought back to everything he had been told. Had Meia and her team failed?\u00a0 If that happened then the resistance had suffered a severe blow and most would never realize it.\u00a0 Trina was convinced that Meia was the daughter of Prince Boris.\u00a0 He decided to wait until Ewa came home before making a decision on what they would do next.\u00a0 He still felt uneasy about heading back to the resistance, especially if Earl had been picked up.<\/p>\n

The more he thought about it the more it appeared Meia had been right. Could they go back to the resistance now?<\/p>\n
