Mitchell found a very busy command room with Sam working with Wilker and a few others before making his way over to where Daniel sat.<\/p>\n

\u201cWant to fill me in?\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ZPM doesn\u2019t have enough power to dial again to our galaxy, so we\u2019re hoping to boost the power with the starships nearby,\u201d Daniel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd this will work?\u201d Mitchell asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t know, it might short the gate out, even destroying it,\u201d Daniel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat, a gate which could short out, a large warship poised to crash onto this site in about an hour and Cylons on their way,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cGood thing there\u2019s no pressure.\u00a0 Sam, what\u2019s the situation?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe might have it ready to go in a few hours,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have fifteen minutes,\u201d Mitchell replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir, there are precise calculations which have to be made,\u201d Sam replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a few hours this spot won\u2019t exist anymore,\u201d Mitchell said, \u201cand will probably be overrun by Cylons. Time is something we don\u2019t have this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

He watched as Adama walked in taking a look at the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow close are you to getting it to work?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot sure,\u201d Wilker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cApollo you and Starbuck, set up a perimeter around the building, but be ready to leave as quickly as possible,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay,\u201d he said as he and Starbuck headed out.<\/p>\n

\u201cSam, we might have to pull the pin and throw,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir, even if we get it to work, it might not be stable for long,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we move fast,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cI\u2019m going to help Apollo.\u201d<\/p>\n

He left the group and headed outside seeing a group of warriors ready and a line of people.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, listen up,\u201d he said loudly. \u201cIf the gate activates we won\u2019t have much time, so go though as fast as possible and upon reaching the other side quickly move away from the gate.\u201d<\/p>\n

He looked up to see several vipers landing close by and the warriors jumping out and heading towards them stopping in confusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cApollo, why are we still standing here?\u201d a woman asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cRan into a slight power problem,\u201d Apollo replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, we\u2019ve got a Cylon transport heading here, should be here in a few centons,\u201d she replied back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat, all right, man all the defensive emplacements,\u201d Apollo said, \u201cbut be aware of your communicator, if you are ordered to leave, do so.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHere,\u201d another warrior said to Mitchell, handing him what looked like a pistol. \u201cIt\u2019ll work better against the Cylons.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cSam,\u201d he said keying his mic.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m on it sir,\u201d Sam said replying to the question. She never felt so unsure about something before.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have incoming,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

Sam looked at everyone else who all looked at her.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Cam said, pull the pin and throw,\u201d she said. \u201cIt appears we\u2019re out of time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel walked over the DHD and began imputing the address. The gate began to turn and everyone prayed it would work.<\/p>\n

\u201cChevron one, locked,\u201d Daniel said, counting them down.<\/p>\n

Sam felt the pressure build as each chevron locked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it works we\u2019ll have to go through fast,\u201d Adama said, \u201cespecially if Cylons are already landing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight,\u201d Sam said, ready to inform Teal\u2019c of the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cChevron seven, locked,\u201d Daniel said.<\/p>\n

She watched as the gate twirled again and the eighth chevron slipped into place.<\/p>\n

\u201cEight chevron, locked,\u201d Daniel said as the lights dimmed for a second and the kawhoosh sound indicating an opening wormhole had been created.<\/p>\n

Sam quickly looked at the readings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt worked, but I have no idea how long it will remain,\u201d Sam said to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cMove out,\u201d Adama said making his way to the gate.<\/p>\n

\u201cTeal\u2019c, come in,\u201d Sam sad.<\/p>\n

\u201cMajor Carter, it is good to hear your voice,\u201d Teal\u2019c said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, we\u2019re going to be coming through as fast as possible,\u201d Sam said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs there a problem?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have Cylons charging the base, and we had to improvise the power, so we don\u2019t know how long it will last,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnderstood, we are ready,\u201d Teal\u2019c said even as the first group began moving thought the gate.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir, the gate is open,\u201d Sam said to Mitchell giving him the information he needed.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo ahead and go though, you and Daniel, I\u2019ll be the last one,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you sure,\u201d Sam asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust go,\u201d Mitchell said, even as she heard shooting starting.<\/p>\n

\u201cDaniel, go,\u201d Sam said to him heading to the gate herself with her equipment.<\/p>\n

She moved into line and headed through knowing Daniel was about to come though as well.<\/p>\n

Exiting she felt herself tossed out of the gate instead of the normal walk though. Before she could even gain her bearing she was dragged away from the gate as people were anxiously speaking all over.<\/p>\n

\u201cMajor Carter, are you all right?\u201d she heard Teal\u2019c\u2019s voice ask.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, that was rough,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere does seem to be a problem with this wormhole,\u201d Teal\u2019c said. \u201cI have never seen it happen before.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, me neither,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

She stood seeing that the Jaffa and others were rushing in, dragging people out and equipment so it wouldn\u2019t back up in the gate. She only hoped they all made it.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Mitchell fired a few times, seeing the immense power of this blaster and another Cylon sparked and fell. The Cylons were very different than what he expected.\u00a0 They were large and accurate and actually faster than he expected.<\/p>\n

\u201cFall back,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

Mitchell looked on seeing the line had disappeared and made his way inside as well seeing the last of the line almost running into the gate.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome on, let\u2019s get out of here,\u201d Mitchell yelled out.<\/p>\n

The warriors came running in with blasters drawn and into the gate. A couple more were helping injured as finally Starbuck and Apollo appeared.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou ready to leave,\u201d Starbuck asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d Apollo said as a few stray lasers entered the room indicating the Cylons were close behind them.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou the last group?\u201d Mitchell asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYep,\u201d Apollo said as they headed towards the gate.<\/p>\n

Mitchell fired a few shots before heading though as well.<\/p>\n

Seconds later he felt himself tossed out landing on hard ground and slightly dazed.<\/p>\n

\u201cColonel, are you okay,\u201d he heard Teal\u2019c say.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, defensive perimeter, now,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cThe Cylons were right behind us.\u201d<\/p>\n

He heard Teal\u2019c say something in Jaffa and was dragged away as he finally shook the cobwebs clear and stood to see a defensive ring of Jaffa fighters even as the first Cylon came though. Everyone opened fire before the Cylon could get back up after being tossed out.<\/p>\n

Several more followed in rapid succession but the line held until the gate finally closed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWonder if the gate was destroyed?\u201d Daniel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly one way to find out, dial it when we get back to Earth,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know I can\u2019t wait to get back home,\u201d Mitchell said flexing his shoulder satisfied he hasn\u2019t broken anything.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to see your leaders,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

Mitchell looked at Sam and the others knowing there was a lot to discuss.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a good idea,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll ask the general then,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Adama watched as the gate was dialed again, activated and connected, or so he was told. He already informed Tigh he was going to meet with the leaders of Earth, and perhaps get some support to help rebuild their society and get information about this galaxy.<\/p>\n

Beside him stood Apollo, going with him for security, but Adama had a good feeling the people he was talking to were trustworthy. He looked over at Mitchell and Sam who both nodded.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, let\u2019s go,\u201d Mitchell said, heading into the gate.<\/p>\n

Adama walked through and was met with an interior room with flashing red lights and men with weapons, as Mitchell explained to them. It was that way regardless of who came through the gate as they had to be cautious.\u00a0 Standing in front was a man with brown hair and appeared to be in charge.<\/p>\n

\u201cWelcome to Earth commander,\u201d the man said. \u201cI\u2019m General Henry Landry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCommander Adama, this is my son, Captain Apollo,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I\u2019m sure you have a lot of questions, as do we, shall we move to a more comfortable location?\u201d Landry stated.<\/p>\n

Adama nodded and they moved out of the gate room and into a hallway before climbing several sets of stairs, passing by a command room before reaching a meeting room.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoffee, tea or water?\u201d Landry asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWater,\u201d Adama replied, unsure what coffee or tea was as a young aide poured some glasses and set them on the table as Adama sat down.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot to discuss,\u201d Landry said. \u201cWe have an entire civilization which has moved to an entirely new galaxy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes sir, it was close, we almost didn\u2019t make it,\u201d Sam said. \u201cHave you tried dialing the gate?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did not long ago, couldn\u2019t establish a connection,\u201d Landry replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d Apollo asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt means the gate is either destroyed, or buried,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cylons won\u2019t be using it to expand,\u201d Adama said. \u201cThat is the most important thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAre they that powerful?\u201d Landry asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir, their weapons are quite extensive,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cAnd they\u2019ve overcome EMP fields.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI see, it eliminates weapons used against the replicators,\u201d Landry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cReplicators?\u201d Adam asked, having heard of this race before.<\/p>\n

\u201cA race of machines, unknown who really created them, some say the Asgard, others some unknown race. They do as the name implies, replicate,\u201d Landry said.\u00a0 \u201cThey use whatever material is around them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAre they still around?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnknown, we thought they were eliminated, but they keep popping up occasionally,\u201d Landry said. \u201cBut you probably have some questions?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy people will require some help, are you willing?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can provide some support, but forty thousand people, that\u2019s a lot,\u201d Landry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand, they are willing to work, and we have many skilled people,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think something can be worked out, especially with new allies,\u201d Landry said pausing in thought. \u201cI might even have a proposal for you, one which the higher ups have been pressing for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot the colony,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, and it would make sense, they could easily help us out,\u201d Landry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cColony?\u201d Apollo asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has been a proposal for a while to colonize another world, a Tau\u2019ri world beside Earth,\u201d Landry said. \u201cExpand our territory as you say.\u00a0 But gathering the number of people without exposing the stargate program is a problem.\u00a0 This world would also be a separate colony but we would build our spaceports there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have experience in that,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought you might, and you have the ability, a society, a range of people, and your own systems already in place. It would solve a lot of problems,\u201d Landry said.\u00a0 \u201cHow long would it take to get your farms up and running?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have that experience, but we do have people with such knowledge, and we brought seeds to help,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood, I think I can convenience rations for some MREs and such, it would be a temporary thing until you get on your feet,\u201d Landry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd this colony, how far along it is?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve slowly been building it up, a couple of buildings, mostly scientific in nature to study the planet, but we\u2019re working on securing the gate, similar to here,\u201d Landry said. \u201cWe can train your people in how to operate it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it might work out,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll inform my superiors,\u201d Landry said, excusing himself as a plate of cookies were place on the table.<\/p>\n

Adam helped himself to one surprised at the sweet taste, but enjoyable.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re chocolate chip cookies,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery delicious,\u201d Adama replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, the war lasted a thousand years against the Cylons, sounds like a long time,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was, several generations, and really the war was starting to drag out,\u201d Adama said. \u201cResources were becoming scarce, especially some of the fuel sources.\u00a0 Its one reason why we thought the Cylons might actually want peace.\u00a0 Some of us thought the Cylons would use this to rearm themselves, but the overriding want of peace overruled common sense on what we knew about the Cylons.\u00a0 They will do anything for victory.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adama noticed Mitchell was about to say something when Landry returned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, they have some doubts, but will agree,\u201d Landy said.<\/p>\n

Adama knew there was still a lot of things to do, but for now his people had a place to go, and a mission still. The future looked brighter than it had in yehrans.<\/p>\n
