Part 5<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Mitchell stood on the bridge of the Galactica watching how things were going on. He noticed a few times the Cylons had feigned an attack on the fleet.\u00a0 Each one was beaten back and he wondered if the attacks served a purpose after a third such attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy don\u2019t they just attack?\u201d Mitchell asked Tigh.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably steering us in a certain direction, towards the system,\u201d Tigh stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen why haven\u2019t they attacked the ships there?\u201d Mitchell asked not able to understand this enemy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they expected the fleet to move as one, our tactics have probably confused them. That will last until the Galactica gets there,\u201d Tigh replied.\u00a0 \u201cOnce the Galactica reaches the system I figure they will attack in full force.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd how much longer do we have?\u201d Mitchell asked, uneasy about that information.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot long now,\u201d Tigh said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan the Cylons learn about technology?\u201d Mitchell asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, why?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we leave the stargate around they might learn how to operate it,\u201d Mitchell said, the last thing he wanted was a way for this enemy to quickly gain a new way to spread throughout the galaxy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see,\u201d Tigh replied. \u201cWithout the gate it could take them centuries to even begin to expand beyond this galaxy, if they ever do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGive them a stargate, and they could expand quickly,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSam,\u201d Mitchell said over his radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo ahead,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need a plan to destroy the stargate upon leaving,\u201d he told her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t want the Cylons to understand this technology,\u201d Mitchell replied to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnderstand, we\u2019ll work on it,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDoctor Wilker and I, he\u2019s quite brilliant,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, I\u2019ll leave it to you,\u201d Mitchell said shaking his head knowing that Sam always seemed to find such people.<\/p>\n

He looked around realizing there were even fewer people on board. They had shuttled down to other ships already.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir, Daniel is asking for you,\u201d Rigel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks,\u201d Mitchell said giving her a smile before keying the mic. \u201cDaniel?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMitchell, how are things going up there?\u201d Daniel asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, you know, busy as ever, what about down there?\u201d Mitchell asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo panic yet, aside from a few vocal people talking about staying and it\u2019s a trap which riled some up,\u201d Daniel said. \u201cOtherwise it\u2019s been remarkably calm.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGood, we\u2019re more than halfway and Sam is working on a way to destroy the gate after we leave,\u201d Mitchell sad.<\/p>\n

\u201cDestroy it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, the Cylons might be able to figure it out, don\u2019t need another new enemy after the Gao\u2019uld and Ori,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, right,\u201d Daniel replied. \u201cWell, got to go, sending another group through.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow many ships left?\u201d Mitchell asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeventy-six,\u201d Tigh replied. \u201cThe largest ships have been evacuated already.\u00a0 Most of these left are construction, fuel, and argo ships.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was still a lot of people and Mitchell hoped they had enough time.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Samantha looked on packing up her computer which had allowed them to store a massive amount of their information. It had taken them a bit of time to sync up the two systems, but once they managed it things were quickly downloaded into the computer\u2019s storage.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir,\u201d she said keying her mic.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo ahead,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m done here,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood, get down to the surface,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cI\u2019ll be down shortly as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn it,\u201d Sam said as she, Wilker and the rest of his team headed out, many carry as much as they could. Several had already made trips to the shuttle as she headed down to the hangar.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, how are you going to destroy the stargate?\u201d Wilker asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could overload the ZPM, but that\u2019s risky,\u201d Sam said. \u201cIf it explodes too early it could strand us here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy not use the Galactica,\u201d another voice said causing them to turn around to see Commander Adama.<\/p>\n

\u201cUse the Galactica?\u201d Wilker asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can be set on autopilot, and destroy the area, it would also prevent the Cylons from destroying it,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you sure?\u201d Sam said having a feeling that Wilker was hesitant about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been giving it a lot of thought, we won\u2019t need it, and we can\u2019t take it with us,\u201d Adama said. \u201cI\u2019d rather destroy it than have it fall into Cylon hands.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it would solve the problem of destabilizing the wormhole as we go through it,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll inform the bridge, we\u2019ll activate it upon leaving on a delay that should give us enough time to go through this gate,\u201d Adama said. \u201cHow long does the gate remain active?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout forty of your centons,\u201d Sam said having been given a brief description of their time units.<\/p>\n

\u201cA centare or two should be good,\u201d Wilker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, we\u2019ll get it ready,\u201d Adama said walking away as Sam continued to the hangar.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe sounds like some of my commanders,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, he is a man of action but deep thought,\u201d Wilker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good mix, reminds me of General Hammond,\u201d Sam said. \u201cThe previous leader of the SGC, a good man.\u00a0 I think he would have liked to have meet Adama.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reaching the hangar Sam informed Mitchell that she was headed down to the planet. She hoped to be headed back soon, and felt the debriefing for this mission would take a while.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

\u201cHey!\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel felt a nudge and blinked his eyes to see Sam standing there.<\/p>\n

\u201cSam, where\u2019s Mitchell?\u201d Daniel asked, having fallen asleep after working so much. They would be sending one of the last groups though and he had taken a break informing Starbuck who had taken over organizing everyone into a line to head on through.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll be down on the last shuttle with the commander,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, how many more trips?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think two, this one and then us,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood,\u201d Daniel said stretching as Starbuck made his way inside.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, this group is ready,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, be right there,\u201d Daniel said heading over to the controls and began dialing the address. After a few seconds it connected and he quickly sent the signal which was replied to by Teal\u2019c.\u00a0 \u201cGo on through.\u201d<\/p>\n

He watched as the group was orderly sent though the gate once more. It almost became routine as they went though and he watched.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see why you\u2019re bored,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, there wasn\u2019t much here in the building anyways,\u201d Daniel said. \u201cA couple of rooms, tables and a resting area, but aside from that, it seemed like this building was an after-thought.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, if what we\u2019re told is correct, it was a meeting place between the group here, which they call the Beings of Light and the Ancients, who didn\u2019t get along,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMight explain some things,\u201d Daniel said watching and getting reports that things were still fine on the other side by Teal\u2019c.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow are they adjusting over there,\u201d Sam asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cTeal\u2019c and the Jaffa have things well in hand over there,\u201d Daniel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUh, Daniel,\u201d Sam said. The tone in her voice indicating something was wrong and he looked over.\u00a0 \u201cYou see this?\u201d she said, suddenly working on the computer.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, if what I see is correct, we could be in trouble,\u201d he said as the last of the group went though and the gate closed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in trouble,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, we don\u2019t have enough power to dial out again to our galaxy,\u201d Daniel said as Starbuck walked over.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood news bad news,\u201d he said to them. \u201cThe last of the group is headed here, and the Galactica\u2019s autopilot is fixed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow long do we have?\u201d Sam asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThink he said something about a centare and a half,\u201d Starbuck said. \u201cWhy?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have enough power anymore to dial out,\u201d Sam replied seeing Starbuck\u2019s face go pale.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t have, like say a couple of naquadah generators or ZPMs lying around by any chance?\u201d Daniel asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not even sure what those are,\u201d Starbuck replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cPower generators, and unless we find a new source quickly, we\u2019re stuck here,\u201d Sam said to him even as another man walked in.<\/p>\n

Daniel looked at the screen wondering if he could somehow figure out a way to produce more power, or even if there was a place he could dial which was in range of the Stargate. Looking around he saw nothing which might actually help.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d the other man said with white hair. Daniel seemed to recognize him but couldn\u2019t recall his name.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have the power anymore to dial to our galaxy,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, you need more power,\u201d the man replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d Sam said as the man looked on working with Sam.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, there might be one thing, not sure how it would work,\u201d Starbuck said speaking up for the first time since he was told what was going on.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re open to anything,\u201d Sam said not looking up as Daniel waited.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are several starships with running engines, can\u2019t they be hooked up?\u201d Starbuck asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure, the power might not be compatible with the gate, and it could burn it out,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, Sam, if it burns out, it\u2019s not like we have a lot of time anyways,\u201d Daniel said recalling the fact another starship would be slamming into this spot in a short amount of time. \u201cAnd we don\u2019t have many other options.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight, can you do it?\u201d Sam asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll need to know where to hook up, but I think we can,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can show him Sam, I\u2019ll work this area,\u201d Daniel said watching them head out.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome on Starbuck, we\u2019ll need all the help we can get,\u201d the man said heading out of the room.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Mitchell looked around the bridge as the last group input the instructions into the computers.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommander, we have incoming raiders,\u201d Omega said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything set?\u201d Adama asked<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, weapon systems set to automatic,\u201d Omega replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen let\u2019s get out of here,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

Mitchell rushed with the others down the corridor to the elevator and onto the hangar where a shuttle was waiting and appeared already powered up. Stepping inside he quickly sat down as the doors closed and it blasted off leaving him pushed back into his chair at the acceleration.<\/p>\n

\u201cSilver spar is making sure they stay back,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cInform them to fall back to the planet, and be ready to go at once,\u201d Adama said to him.<\/p>\n

Mitchell heard the information relayed to the fighters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be a rough landing,\u201d Apollo said to the group.<\/p>\n

No one said anything and for a second Mitchell wished he had gone on an earlier shuttle on down, but he had to wait around.<\/p>\n

\u201cRaiders are heading to the empty ships first,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat should give us a few microns,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope it\u2019s enough,\u201d Mitchell replied back watching as the planet loomed larger in the windows and knew they were going to be racing into the atmosphere. The shuttle bounced around a bit in the atmosphere but held together.<\/p>\n

\u201cExceeding normal parameters,\u201d he heard the other pilot tell Apollo.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know, but we need to get down fast,\u201d Apollo said even as the engines strained and the shuttle seemed to not want to lift up and even out.<\/p>\n

For a few seconds Mitchell was concerned they would crash into the ground, but it leveled out and headed to the building. He could see several starships all around as well as many people running around all over the place.\u00a0 It looked like a scene of mass confusion and he wondered what happened.<\/p>\n

Landing he and the others were out the door rather quickly as he looked on seeing massive cables running around and people pulling the cables alone into the building.<\/p>\n

\u201cSam? Daniel?\u201d Mitchell asked over the communicator.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d Daniel\u2019s voice replied sounding strained.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, what\u2019s going on?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a bit too much to explain, but the ZPM didn\u2019t have enough power to dial our galaxy, so we hooked up the starships engines to the stargate for the energy boost,\u201d Daniel replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cProblem?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cMight be, let me go find out,\u201d Mitchell said running inside avoiding everyone and making his way to the command room.<\/p>\n
