Part 4: A Lucky Cave<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Gwen glanced around again at the trail.\u00a0 She had seen no one now in almost an hour, and the last group she past had been a couple of mercenaries headed in the opposite direction.\u00a0 Looking over at Zoe, the girl had her hair tied back into a long ponytail, and did not seem to be bothered by the walk.\u00a0 In fact, she appeared deep in thought at the moment.<\/p>\n

That look made Gwen wonder what the girl might say next.\u00a0 The last time she had been so quite, she suddenly asked the question where did dirt come from?\u00a0 Then she listened for the next half-hour about her theory about it.\u00a0 Gwen did not find it bad, and the girl had actually thought it through a bit.<\/p>\n

They managed to leave the town in good time, though Gwen did not tell her why.\u00a0 She spotted Zeltran in the crowd and did not want to be spotted.\u00a0 She had the feeling he was tracking her and did not want to fight him in the town.\u00a0 He had a high fighting power, not as hish as hers, but one that meant their fight would be much more.\u00a0 She wondered if his tracking her somehow was related to Stephos and Zoe.\u00a0 Was he hired by whoever wanted Zoe to take her?<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, do you know where you\u2019re going?\u201d Zoe suddenly asked, causing Gwen to look at the girl.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019m looking for a monolith made out of white stone, about as tall as the trees, then you follow the path to the left,\u201d Gwen said.\u00a0 \u201cBut I haven\u2019t seen any lately, we should be approaching it shortly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou mean the one we passed some time ago?\u201d Zoe replied quietly, pointing behind them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe passed one?\u201d Gwen groaned, stopping to look at Zoe, who merely looked back at her with that same innocent expression.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I noticed it because I wondered who might have made it and why, I mean it was in the middle of nowhere,\u201d Zoe replied, and Gwen wondered how she might have missed it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd did we take the path to the right?\u201d Gwen asked, hopeful that they might have gotten lucky.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, no, we went left,\u201d Zoe replied after thinking about it for a second.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat, we need to head back the way we came,\u201d Gwen told her, turning around knowing that they had lost a lot of precious time with the detour.\u00a0 They walked along in silence for several minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry for not mentioning it to you,\u201d Zoe said.\u00a0 Gwen looked over to see the girl looking down at the dirt, looking as if she let Gwen down somehow.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, don\u2019t worry about it, I never told you, so it\u2019s partially my fault as well,\u201d Gwen said giving her a smile.\u00a0 \u201cI still have to get used to having a partner.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comment perked Zoe up a bit, much to her relief.\u00a0 She had no intention of making the girl uncomfortable for a mistake that clearly was not her fault.\u00a0 Gwen wondered how she managed to miss the monolith?\u00a0 She probably had been thinking about Stephos and the connection between him and Zeltran and Zoe.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow, those clouds look nasty, wonder how they know when to form?\u201d Zoe said, causing Gwen to look up in the same direction.\u00a0 The think trees hindered her ability to see the clouds from a distance, but now she saw they were about to walk into a severe storm.\u00a0 She paused looking at the clouds, wondering what type of weather they were bringing, and how bad it would get.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, looks like we\u2019re in for something,\u201d Gwen said, looking back over and not seeing Zoe.\u00a0 \u201cZoe?\u201d<\/p>\n

No answer came back, and she frowned wondering how someone could so easily vanish.\u00a0 Her next thought was she walked into a trap of some sort.\u00a0 Expanding her aura she made a circle not feeling anyone around her.\u00a0 They had walked past this spot once already, and now this happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cZoe?\u201d Gwen called out once more, still not getting any reply back to her.\u00a0 She started to worry a bit, hoping nothing happened, and not sure how anything could have happened.\u00a0 She had not been hit by any spell, the storm still was approaching so Zoe had to be around somewhere.<\/p>\n

\u201cGwen,\u201d Zoe\u2019s voice said.\u00a0 Gwen turned to see her friend emerging from some bushes, and relief flooded through her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere were you?\u201d Gwen asked, taking a moment to look the girl over.\u00a0 She did not appear hurt or anything else before looking into green eyes which looked back at her with curiosity.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went over her to look at this tree,\u201d Zoe said, pointing to a strangely shaped tree before continuing, \u201cand noticed a cave back there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA cave?\u201d Gwen asked, confused at the turn of conversation.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it\u2019s large enough for us take shelter in during the storm,\u201d Zoe said, grabbing Gwen\u2019s hand and dragging her over towards the spot.<\/p>\n

Gwen allowed Zoe to pull her along towards the bushes and to a hidden entrance to a cave.\u00a0 The entrance had an \u2018s\u2019 shape and she felt herself pass through a magical barrier.\u00a0 Frowning at the feeling, she continued into the cave, seeing lit torches along the interior.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, what do you think?\u201d Zoe asked, walking a bit further into the cave.<\/p>\n

\u201cImpressive,\u201d Gwen said, looking around and seeing the signs of it being built by someone.\u00a0 The room had several magically controlled torches, and a large stone circle in the middle which could be used for a fire for both warmth and cooking.\u00a0 She spotted several flat areas to put down a bed, and a raised flat stone which could easily be used as a table with a few extra torches around it.\u00a0 Moving further into the cavern she felt a slight warmth coming from the next room, and the smell of mineral water.<\/p>\n

Moving into the cavern along with Zoe she made her way into an even larger cavern.\u00a0 The torches here sprang to life, showing several small hot springs.\u00a0 She looked around spotting that several channeled into a carved out area large enough for a bath, before the water continued on out of the cavern through small openings and heading somewhere.\u00a0 Off to one side she spotted a pile of wood for a fire.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow,\u201d Zoe said in a small voice.<\/p>\n

Gwen had to agree, the engineering had been flawless, and whoever built it obviously used it.\u00a0 She knew of no large town nearby or what purpose this cavern might have served.\u00a0 Taking a closer look she realized the cavern probably had not been used in years or more.\u00a0 The torches were here, but there was no supplies, except for the wood, or anything else to indicate it was still in use.\u00a0 Whoever used it, probably was dead, or forgotten it was here.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be able to stay here the night until the storm passes,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, should keep us dry, and warm,\u201d Gwen said, moving back to the main cavern.\u00a0 Setting her backpack down, and taking off her sword she stretched slightly seeing a few areas that she might set up her sleeping mats.<\/p>\n

Zoe worked beside her setting up for the night.\u00a0 Gwen noticed they would each have a sleeping mat, and felt slightly better that Zoe would not be snuggling up next to her tonight.\u00a0 The thought also sent a slight bit of disappointment through her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to check to see if its started raining,\u201d Gwen said, looking over at Zoe.<\/p>\n

\u201cSure thing,\u201d Zoe replied, as she headed towards the hot springs.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ll start a fire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gwen nodded heading towards the entrance, stopping at the magical barrier and examining it a bit closer this time.\u00a0 It appeared to muffle light and sound indicating whoever built the cave did not want to be found.\u00a0 She pondered that realization and came up with one a few groups who might do that.<\/p>\n

Exiting out of the cavern, she saw the storm was almost on top of them now.\u00a0 She frowned at something in front of her, squinted a bit then realized what it was, a snowflake.\u00a0 This would not be a regular rain storm, but a blizzard.\u00a0 A late winter storm which would bring colder weather, making Gwen feel lucky Zoe had found the cave.<\/p>\n

She walked back into the cave, seeing the entrance prevented the wind from blowing straight in, allowing the warmth to remain in better, and the magical battier seemed to help, acting like a door.\u00a0 She walked back in seeing Zoe had started the fire, and it was quite big already.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, look a magical fire,\u201d Zoe said, waving her hand over the fire pit.\u00a0 It went out, and she waved again as it relit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess we don\u2019t need that wood then,\u201d Gwen said, wondering what they used the wood for.\u00a0 \u201cWe might be here for a few days.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh?\u201d Zoe asked, looking back at her with inquiring eyes.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, that storm isn\u2019t a rain storm, but a snow storm,\u201d Gwen said, watching as Zoe appeared excited by that fact.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuckily we have a good place to stay for a while, and we stocked up before leaving,\u201d Zoe said, ducking outside to check for herself.<\/p>\n

Gwen followed to see for herself if the snow had started falling any harder.\u00a0 She stopped at the entrance, seeing the snow coming down about as much as it was when she had been out here.\u00a0 Glancing at the sky, it looked like they would have quite a bit as the day went on and into the night.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s starting to come down now,\u201d Zoe stated, breaking Gwen out of her trance.\u00a0 She looked out and watched the snow start coming down in larger flakes and faster.\u00a0 She could see the flakes starting to accumulate on the ground causing her to wonder how much it would snow, and how long they would be stuck in the cave.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooks like it\u2019s also going to start getting cold,\u201d Gwen said.\u00a0 \u201cMight have to grab some water.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was some water coming out of the wall in the back of the cave, not out of the springs,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

Gwen turned and headed towards the back of the cavern.\u00a0 She spotted the trickle of water, and went over, testing the water to see if it was drinkable.\u00a0 Finding it acceptable she went back to grab a cup to capture some of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d Zoe asked, following her back and forth between the two caverns.<\/p>\n

\u201cGathering some water for soup, or hot tea,\u201d Gwen said.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s going to take some time, so better to start now.\u00a0 It\u2019s getting close to supper-time anyways.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh yeah, I guess it is, is there anything I can do to help?\u201d Zoe asked as Gwen placed the cup to collect the water.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet some ingredients out for soup,\u201d Gwen replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can do that,\u201d Zoe replied, disappearing into the other cavern.<\/p>\n

Gwen figured it would be an interesting couple of days, and things could be worse.\u00a0 She at least had a dry spot, fire, water and food.<\/p>\n

Gwen looked up from where she sat seeing Zoe fuss over the soup, checking it one more time before tasting it.\u00a0 It had been a couple of hours since they settled into the cave, and the snow started coming down.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow is it?\u201d Gwen asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s getting there,\u201d Zoe replied, settling back down next to the fire.\u00a0 The girl appeared to sit down at the table, and had some paper and charcoals, brushing away at the papers.\u00a0 Zoe appeared to concentrate quite a bit, to the point the tip of her tongue stuck out as she did something.\u00a0 Her curiosity finally got the better of her and walked over to see.<\/p>\n

Gwen felt a bit of surprise seeing that Zoe had not been writing, but drawing.\u00a0 Zoe, realizing Gwen was looking down, suddenly covered it up, her cheeks red in embarrassment but not before showing some of the picture.\u00a0 She knew that it was of a person.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re good, can I see?\u201d Gwen asked, looking down at Zoe, who blushed even harder and shaking her head no.\u00a0 \u201cPlease?\u201d Gwen asked, giving what she hoped was a good pleading look.\u00a0 \u201cI won\u2019t laugh, I promise.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gwen continued to press, hoping to get a peek of what Zoe was drawing.\u00a0 Gwen was rewarded by a slow uncovering of the drawing.\u00a0 She looked seeing a really good drawing of a woman, but had not expected that woman to be her.\u00a0 She stood proudly at the top of a hill, sword unsheathed and down at the side, as if after battle, wind whipping her hair, and not a single piece of clothing.<\/p>\n

Gwen managed to get over her shock enough to see the talent of the drawing.\u00a0 Her hair seemed to move like the wind, and the proportions of the body, it caused Gwen to wonder how the girl had managed to capture the female form so well.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s, um, very good,\u201d Gwen finally managed to say.\u00a0 \u201cThough why me?\u201d<\/p>\n

She glanced back over at Zoe, whose blush had not disappeared, and appeared to have deepened.\u00a0 \u201cWell, who not, you\u2019re fascinating to draw,\u201d Zoe finally said.<\/p>\n

Gwen had no reply to that, and thought of it as a compliment, looking at the drawing once more.\u00a0 \u201dWhat\u2019s up with you and nudity though?\u00a0 You sleep nude, now draw me nude?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know, isn\u2019t it natural?\u201d Zoe replied, looking down at the drawing then back up at her.\u00a0 Gwen wondered if there was not some other motive or if the actions were truly innocent.<\/p>\n

Shaking her head to clear such thoughts, she knew Zoe was a partner who she was helping, nothing more.\u00a0 Sure Zoe was cute, but the moment the girl found someone in some town, she\u2019d be off to getting married and settling down.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, it\u2019s still good, I\u2019m going to go back out and check on things,\u201d Gwen said, moving towards the entrance.\u00a0 Stepping outside, she was greeted with snowing covering everything and still coming down.\u00a0 The setting sun gave its last rays to illuminating the forest.\u00a0 She checked the depth of the snow with her finger, it was not that much yet.\u00a0 The air had chilled to the point she could see her breathe now.\u00a0 Seeing the snow still coming down she stopped hearing voices on the wind.<\/p>\n

\u201cI say we\u2019re lost,\u201d one voice said.\u00a0 Gwen crouched down, waiting to see who it might be before announcing her presence.\u00a0 She felt with her aura, and felt a few people coming towards her, but no high level fighters.<\/p>\n

\u201cI say they went this way,\u201d one yelled back, anger in his voice.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if they turned around?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we would have seen them or their tracks you idiot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIdiot, why you no good tracker.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gwen spotted the group now, watching as one lurched towards another one and a fight broke out.\u00a0 Muffled sounds of the fight floated over to where Gwen was.\u00a0 The information they gave indicated they were looking for her and Zoe.\u00a0 The question came who, Stephos or whoever had paid him to capture Zoe.\u00a0 The information stopped her from giving any help to the group.<\/p>\n

\u201cStop it,\u201d a voice said, and she felt a fighting power rise up slightly, being the strongest one yet.\u00a0 She looked out hoping to get a better view of the group, but saw only darkened figures.\u00a0 The two fighting figures were separated, and the one in the middle was keeping them separated.\u00a0 \u201cBesides, he\u2019s right, if they had turned around we would have seen them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gwen groaned at the voice, recognizing it as Zeltran.\u00a0 Now she wondered who the target was, her or Zoe.\u00a0 Did someone in the Realm know she was still alive?\u00a0 That thought made her shudder at who might know.\u00a0 She could only hope certain people still though she was dead.\u00a0 She had done everything possible to erase all signs of her past life.\u00a0 It might be possible someone in the Shadowland, a merchant, or mercenary had recognized her.<\/p>\n

The group grumbled, but continued to walk past the cave entrance heading further on.\u00a0 She counted ten people walking past but did not see anyone who might be Stephos.\u00a0 Gratefully they did not seem to know anything about the cave so close by.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should camp for the night, the next town is still too far away,\u201d one said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s right you know, you might be in a hurry for your quarry, but the rest of us, we\u2019re starting to get cold, time to make a fire and get the tents up, this snow isn\u2019t going to be letting up soon,\u201d another voice said.<\/p>\n

She watched as the group stopped and looked around.\u00a0 She hoped they did not come this way, and prepared for anything in case they discovered the cave.\u00a0 She glanced at the cave, expecting to see light coming from it, but saw nothing, another magical property of the entrance.\u00a0 Whoever made it did not wish to be seen from anyone on the road.<\/p>\n

She moved back inside being quiet making her way back into the cavern.\u00a0 She spotted Zoe looking though the backpack.<\/p>\n

\u201cStill snowing?\u2019 she asked, looking up at her.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, yeah, but another development has occurred,\u201d Gwen said, wondering how Zoe might take this development.\u00a0 \u201cThere\u2019s a group out there looking for someone, might be from Stephos.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t see any light from the entrance, the magical barrier appeared to block light, but I don\u2019t know about sound.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I have to be quiet?\u201d Zoe asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say, don\u2019t make any loud noises, they are setting up on the far side of the road, where I thought about setting up before you spotted this cave,\u201d Gwen said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, okay, the soup\u2019s ready,\u201d Zoe said, placing the dishes out.<\/p>\n

Gwen walked over to the table, setting down as Zoe poured out some soup into the cup.\u00a0 She pushed the men outside out of her thoughts for right now.\u00a0 She was warmer and had something to eat, a lot better than what they had.\u00a0 She figured they would leave the moment they could, allowing Gwen and Zoe the luxury of relaxing a bit more.<\/p>\n

Gwen glanced up as Zoe put away the cooking supplies, then stretched.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to try out that hot spring,\u201d she announced.\u00a0 \u201cWant to join me?\u201d<\/p>\n

Gwen thought about it for a few seconds, before mentally shaking the images out of her mind.\u00a0 \u201cNot yet, go on ahead, I\u2019m going to check on our friends outside,\u201d Gwen replied, watching as Zoe head through the doorway of the two caverns, shedding clothing as she went.<\/p>\n

Gwen continued to star at the spot for several more seconds glad that Zoe still had some clothes on before disappearing into the bathing chamber.\u00a0 Finally shaking herself out of the stupor, stood and headed to the entrance, feeling the temperature change near the barrier and gave thanks to the fire and hot springs.<\/p>\n

The snow still came down, covering the ground even more.\u00a0 She wondered if it would do this all night long.\u00a0 Taking a measurement, and realized it was about half her finger deep.<\/p>\n

The fires of the camp were burning, and she spotted a few people wondering around, others huddle around the fires trying to keep warm.\u00a0 The crunch of snow nearby alerted her, and she kept quiet.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy do you think he\u2019s with us?\u201d one voice said, in a low voice.\u00a0 They must have thought they were far enough away to have a private conversation, not knowing she was listening in.\u00a0 She might gain some information.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo idea, never said,\u201d a second voice said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBounty hunters and their secrets,\u201d the first replied back.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, well all I know, he\u2019s from inside the Realm, seen him there a few times,\u201d the second voice said.<\/p>\n

The two stopped, and the sounds of branches breaking floated over to her as they picked up wood for the fires.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I wouldn\u2019t give to find one of those old raider hideouts along here,\u201d the first one stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cHideouts?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, oh about fifty years ago the city of Mystic was a large town, under Bennails,\u201d the first one said, stopping a second and picking up some more branches.\u00a0 \u201cA powerful fighter, kept things stable in the area for years until an assassin stabbed him in the back, destabilized the entire area.\u00a0 Rumors were the road there is filled with caves that were magically hidden, fire places, could house all of us comfortably, and out of this snow.\u00a0 Some were even protected from the cold or heat with magic barriers, along with light and sound.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gwen realized he described the cave they were in perfectly.\u00a0 So the raiders were so close to the road, they could attack quickly and disappear as fast.\u00a0 They had things set up pretty good and several people could stay there for a while.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, what about you?\u00a0 Are you also working for Stephos?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, he\u2019s paying a lot of good money to get that slave back,\u201d the first one said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA bit stupid, but I don\u2019t think that bounty hunters is after the same thing,\u201d the second one said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe, maybe not, those like him never say,\u201d the second one stated.<\/p>\n

Gwen knew they were talking about Zeltran.\u00a0 He seemed to be following her, but who?\u00a0 And the others were defiantly after Zoe, especially if Stephos was involved.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s obsessed with one stupid slave, they vanish all the time,\u201d the second one said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA dime a dozen to me,\u201d the first replied in agreement.\u00a0 \u201cThe amount of money he\u2019s spending, he could have bought a new slave.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, you think we have enough?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think so, let\u2019s go warm up by the fire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gwen watched as the two made their way back to the camp before heading back into the cavern.\u00a0 She put away her things before spotting the drawing Zoe had been working on.\u00a0 Sitting down she looked at the drawing within reach.\u00a0 Unable to resist she opened it up seeing what she drew this time.\u00a0 Once more she had drawn her, but this time she was with another woman, whose face was hidden, but looked very familiar to Zoe.\u00a0 Both were in sexy positions.<\/p>\n

They were kissing, and both of \u2018Zoe\u2019s\u2019 hands were in Gwen\u2019s hair, while one of Gwen\u2019s hands cupped Zoe\u2019s breast and the other disappeared between Zoe\u2019s thighs.<\/p>\n

Putting the drawing back down she tried to push the scene from her mind.\u00a0 Her body, however, tried to imagine what Zoe\u2019s lips might feel like, or the softness of her breasts, and the heat between the girl\u2019s sex.\u00a0 It all added up to make her uncomfortable, and wondering why Zoe might draw such a scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, no, no,\u201c Gwen said to herself trying to block the it all.\u00a0 The girl was her partner for now, nothing more, and that\u2019s all it should be.<\/p>\n

\u201cTalking to yourself?\u201d Zoe\u2019s voice said softly.\u00a0 Gwen\u2019s head snapped up, stopping at the sight presented to her.\u00a0 Zoe stood in the spot that connected the two caverns, drying her hair, and completely nude.\u00a0 Gwen stopped, not having expected such a sight, once more ogling the feminine curves of Zoe\u2019s body.\u00a0 \u201cWell?\u201d Zoe asked, now slowly walking towards her.\u00a0 She thought Zoe had put an extra sway in her hips as she walked towards her.\u00a0 If she had not, the girl was incredibly sexy.<\/p>\n

\u201cHuh?\u201d Gwen finally managed to squeak out, as Zoe bent down slightly so their eyes were now level.\u00a0 A position that Gwen found made it hard for her to keep her eyes on the face in front of her.\u00a0 Her gaze kept slipping down to the lovely breasts so very close, all she had to do was reach out and touch them if she dared.<\/p>\n

\u201cTalking to yourself, you were saying no, no what?\u201d Zoe asked, her eyes looking at her questioningly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, thinking about different things,\u201d Gwen said, standing up rather quickly to break the trance.\u00a0 \u201cThink I\u2019m going to take a bath now.\u201d<\/p>\n
