Part 15<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Zoe worked on the enchanter hoping to create a new piece of armor with some cool attributes to sell.\u00a0 Something she had started doing as a hobby for the Suite but was a money maker.\u00a0 Enchanted armor sold even better as too many didn\u2019t know how to do it, or even cared.<\/p>\n

Enchantments had helped her out tremendously in her travels.\u00a0 With the defeat of Alduin it seemed as if her grand adventure days were now over.\u00a0 She privately hoped there wouldn\u2019t be any new adventures, and she could settle down again helping out people here and there.<\/p>\n

\u201cStill working,\u201d Leah stated, walking up behind her.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, just trying to figure out which enchantment I should use with this piece of armor,\u201d Zoe said, holding up a piece of paper which she had used to work out some enchantments on.\u00a0 \u201cCurrently thinking increased armor, it\u2019s a light piece of armor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always good to have,\u201d Leah stated looking at the paper.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnything happening?\u201d Zoe asked, looking at Leah, she had her long black hair back in a ponytail and wore her typically short dress much to her delight.<\/p>\n

\u201cNope, we\u2019ve introduced a few new pastries based upon Brandis\u2019 recipes,\u201d Leah said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, how is that going?\u201d Zoe asked, picking out a soul gem to use.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, he really knows what he\u2019s talking about,\u201d Leah said.\u00a0 \u201cI think they\u2019ll do quite well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGood, only enhance our business, and if we mention him anyone going there will help him out as well,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, help your side business I see,\u201d Leah said, wrapping her arms around Zoe as she watched.\u00a0 Zoe continued her work shifting things around in preparation for the final incantation to create the enchantment.<\/p>\n

Everything was now ready, she concentrated on the enchantment and in seconds the soul gem was used and the piece of armor now held the enchantment as Leah picked it up.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re getting better at this,\u201d she said examining it.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeen practicing,\u201d Zoe replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome on, let\u2019s grab something to eat,\u201d Leah suggested.<\/p>\n

Zoe didn\u2019t argue as she headed downstairs along with Leah handing the piece of armor to Rayna to be sold.\u00a0 They made a nice profit for the suite, especially armor made by the Dragonborn.\u00a0 Sometimes she would get custom orders but mostly it was her tinkering with armor and enchantments.<\/p>\n

Making her way over to a table which Leah set down two glasses waiting for Zoe to join her.\u00a0 Zoe took a sip.<\/p>\n

\u201cNice, Honnybrew isn\u2019t it?\u201d Zoe asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, one of their new stock,\u201d Leah said, taking a sip herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cFeels nice not to have some adventure to be on, but I don\u2019t want my skills to rust,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFeeling restless?\u201d Leah asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wyla set down two plates and moved off to help some other customers, flirting slightly with one of the guys at the other table.\u00a0 Zoe watched slightly amused at the blonde as she worked shaking her head wondering if the guy knew what was happening.\u00a0 Flirting to get a guy to spend a bit more, and it usually worked.<\/p>\n

Even as she took a bit the door opened allowing a new person in the room.\u00a0 Zoe glanced over and noticed something about him seemed familiar to her.\u00a0 He was an older guy, worn armor yet had been well maintained.\u00a0 He seemed to stop a bit and look around before heading to the bar.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone you know?\u201d Leah asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t think so,\u201d Zoe replied, but there was something about him, she had seen him before from somewhere.\u00a0 She just couldn\u2019t place him.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, with so many people you\u2019ve met I\u2019d be surprised you could remember anyone,\u201d Leah replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut you can recall people who visit,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, interactions with them, talking to them, not passing by,\u201d Leah said back to her.<\/p>\n

The stranger now spoke to OMB behind the bar who merely looked on before stroking his beard.\u00a0 After a few more words he looked and pointed over at Zoe.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooks like he knows you, or wants something with you,\u201d Leah said as the stranger started her way.<\/p>\n

\u201cCould be asking for you,\u201d Zoe replied, but knew better as OMB had pointed in her direction.\u00a0 Whatever it was couldn\u2019t be too bad considering he got by OMB.<\/p>\n

The stranger walked over and stopped at the table looking at her for a few seconds before finally asking if he could have a seat.<\/p>\n

Zoe glanced at Leah before motioning to the empty chair.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t recognize me,\u201d he said finally.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou look familiar, but in the past year I\u2019ve seen a lot of faces,\u201d Zoe replied causing him to chuckle slightly.\u00a0 \u201cSomewhere up in Riften?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNope, think dungeon diving,\u201d he replied as Zoe suddenly went from thinking about someone in Skyrim to before she came up north.\u00a0 Suddenly she knew exactly who he was.<\/p>\n

\u201cRenold,\u201d Zoe stated.\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t believe it, what are you doing up here?\u201d<\/p>\n

With that she stood to give an old friend a hug, sitting back down seeing Leah look on.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, Renold, my lover Leah,\u201d Zoe said, motioning towards her.<\/p>\n

\u201cPleasure,\u201d he said giving her a smile.\u00a0 \u201cYou\u2019re tastes have improved.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFlatterer,\u201d Zoe replied back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly telling the truth,\u201d he replied as Leah looked back and forth between them both.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew him back before I came up here,\u201d Zoe said.\u00a0 \u201cHe tried to keep me out of trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n

That caused Leah to chuckle.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, I see you understand the problem there,\u201d Renold replied.\u00a0 \u201cAlways was trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMe, I was just trying to survive,\u201d Zoe replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that what you call it, running all over Skyrim on this adventure or that adventure,\u201d Leah replied back to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, that was different, I was trying to figure out what was going on,\u201d Zoe replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve heard stories, the Dragonborn,\u201d Renold replied, sounding impressed.\u00a0 \u201cWhat else have you done?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, a little bit of everything, from working for the Companions to the College of Wiiterhelm,\u201d Zoe replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see, you\u2019ve been busy,\u201d Renold replied.\u00a0 \u201cStories of the Dragonborn have reached even Imperial City.\u00a0 Though I was surprised to learn the stories were about you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was surprised as well,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd this place?\u201d Renold said, taking a look around, his gaze lingering on several of the other workers, including Trudy.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, seems I inherited it and am now the owner of it,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, its better than a lot of places I\u2019ve seen, that\u2019s for sure,\u201d Renold replied.\u00a0 \u201cAnd the, um, scenery, is very lovely.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSurprised me as well,\u201d Zoe said with a slight chuckle at the scenery.\u00a0 They all knew what he meant.\u00a0 \u201cGot a note about it the day I left the city.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, the day your house burned down, probably something to do with Valis,\u201d he stated surprising her.\u00a0 \u201cOh, don\u2019t be surprised, I think everyone figured he had some sort of unnatural obsession with you.\u00a0 Then you up and disappeared the very next day and he seemed most irritated at that.\u00a0 The rumor was there was a shake-up within the Thalmor at the city after that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zoe\u2019s eyebrow\u2019s rose at that not realizing how much Valis had gone through to go after her.<\/p>\n

\u201cA year goes by and then I get this job to deliver a message to you from a Thalmor of all people,\u201d Renold stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cMessage?\u201d Zoe asked, wondering what this was about.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, there is another big upheaval going on, rumor is a lot of infighting over something which happened recently, hush-hush stuff.\u00a0 You know, the stuff which you can\u2019t keep rumors swirling about,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Zoe had a feeling she knew what those rumors were about, Valis\u2019 death and his obsession with her.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyways, this job comes up, they\u2019re looking for some messenger to head to Skyrim, deliver a message to Zoe Scatlite, so of course I accepted.\u00a0 Said to look for the Bathing Beauties Luxury Suite, gave me directions,\u201d he said to her.\u00a0 \u201cAnd now that I\u2019ve found you here is the message.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zoe accepted the scroll, wondering what the Thalmor had decided.<\/p>\n

Zoe Scatlite,<\/em><\/p>\n

It has come to our attention that you were involved in the death of a high-ranking official, Valis.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

After listening to eye-witness accounts and actions done that day it has been decided not to pursue any further actions and Valis\u2019 death was the result of an accident.<\/em><\/p>\n

No charges will be brought at this time, however it is advisable to stay clear of any further entanglements with any ranking Thalmor officials.<\/em><\/p>\n

It was signed Elewen.\u00a0 Zoe gave a slight laugh knowing the real reason.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t want the embarrassment of what Valis did to be public and ruin their image.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, what does it say,\u201d Leah asked, as Zoe handed it to her watching her face as she read it.<\/p>\n

\u201cPompous elves,\u201d Leah finally said.\u00a0 \u201cBut, at least that\u2019s over.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, is the rumor true that Valis is dead?\u00a0 Most of what we can figure is he was transferred due to some incident,\u201d Renold stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, died right outside trying to attack Zoe,\u201d Leah said speaking up before Zoe could.<\/p>\n

She watched Renold shake his head at that bit of news.<\/p>\n

\u201cTalos, even I can tell you\u2019ve changed, you have that air of an experienced warrior now,\u201d he said to her.\u00a0 \u201cI always saw it lurking there, hidden by your doubts and fears.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I guess that was pushed aside when I got here,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, what happened then?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing much, got captured in a raid between forces in the brewing civil war, sent to the execution block,\u201d Zoe said, watching his eyes go wide.\u00a0 \u201cEven had my head on the chopping block when this dragon swooped down and started destroying everything in sight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoa, close call,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, but while escaping had no choice but to either push aside that fear and doubt or die,\u201d Zoe said. \u201cThen I went dungeon diving right after that for the mage of the Jarl which set me up on my second encounter against a dragon.\u00a0 That was a fight, and upon defeating it I learned I was the Dragonborn.\u00a0 Then got summoned by the Greybeards and the rest was history as they say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI see,\u201d Renold said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd since, fought a lot of dragons, vampires, and more.\u00a0 Even helped some of the divine nines in my travels,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd fought Alduin in Sovngarde,\u201d Leah said speaking up watching as Renold\u2019s eyes went wide.<\/p>\n

\u201cExplains why you\u2019ve gained so much confidence compared to last time I saw you. \u00a0Valis stood no chance, also explains the Thalmor\u2019s position,\u201d he stated.\u00a0 \u201cStories of your exploits are told in the inns all across the city, and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n

That bit of news shocked Zoe.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably can\u2019t do anything to you without information about Valis\u2019 obsession of you coming out,\u201d Leah said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it would put a blemish on the Thalmor\u2019s ideology,\u201d Renold replied.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s something which has been talked about in the shadows.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAt least we don\u2019t have to worry about them,\u201d Leah said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d Zoe said, hoping they never found out about her other activities, like freeing prisoners of the Thalmor, or her little excursion into the embassy shortly after she arrived.\u00a0 Of course only a few knew of that, and was already dead.\u00a0 \u201cSo, how long are you staying?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, not sure, might stay around for a bit before heading back,\u201d Renold said.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s interesting up here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it is,\u201d Zoe said, looking around herself.<\/p>\n

So much had changed for her in the past year.\u00a0 Before heading up here she was barely surviving, hunting and other such things, now she was almost a household name throughout Skyrim, knowing many personally.\u00a0 Add in the fact stories of her adventures had reached beyond Skyrim it all seemed amazing.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you have any dragons close to the Imperial City?\u201d Zoe asked, the question suddenly coming to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were rumors of a couple, but no towns were attacked that I know of,\u201d Renold replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuess that\u2019s good news,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey terrorized us up here, people were afraid to travel,\u201d Leah said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBet that affected business,\u201d Renold stated looking around again.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did okay,\u201d Leah said, \u201cI do expect business to pick up even more now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what about you?\u201d Renold asked, looking at Zoe.\u00a0 \u201cRetired now?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot really,\u201d Zoe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnow any good dungeons around here,\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah I do,\u201d Zoe said smiling as Leah shook her head.\u00a0 Perhaps there was something to do.<\/p>\n
