Part 24<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Mark looked over seeing Victoria approach him and he learned that she usually had a certain walk for when she had important information, like right now.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s the news?\u201d he asked as she stopped and looked at him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you know I have anything to say?\u201d she asked.\u00a0 \u201cI could be coming to see if you need anything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAh, well, you have a certain type of walk when you have information,\u201d Mark finally replied wondering how she might feel to know he was watching her so closely.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI see, well, you\u2019re right,\u201d she finally said after a few seconds.\u00a0 \u201cThe Fletcher is beginning trials now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGreat news, and the others?\u201d Mark asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe next ship will be done within the next week,\u201d she replied to him.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Remarkable, Mark thought to himself.\u00a0 They had built a new warship so quickly.\u00a0 Of course the idea of being destroyed had focused attention on it.\u00a0 News reports seemed to be giving almost constant updates about it.\u00a0 He had a feeling that the ship being completed was a major cause for celebration for everyone, except he knew they would need more.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGood, how long will those take?\u201d he asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey are underway as we speak,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGood,\u201d Mark said knowing the ship actually replaced a damaged ship in the fleet, but it was a start and a ship they could use for future advances.\u00a0 He knew a lot of the construction docks had changed to building warships. Once it was converted the output would actually be quite tremendous.\u00a0 For now they had to buy time to get that ability working.\u00a0 He turned back to Victoria.\u00a0 \u201cAnything else?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo, just normal reports from all the groups, one interesting thing which is happening is the aliens with Toncor are asking for permission to settle down on Mars,\u201d she said to him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, and what is the government saying?\u201d Mark asked knowing how dangerous the Earth was to many other races.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey think it\u2019s a good idea, a place where they can set up, and help us out as well,\u201d Victoria said.\u00a0 \u201cThey are leaving to set up today.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully the O\u2019krad don\u2019t attack there, it would take us a while to get there,\u201d Mark said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo far all of their attacks have come to Earth, there is no intelligence to say they will attack Mars,\u201d Victoria said.\u00a0 \u201cAnd with some help from the rebellion we\u2019re gaining some new information about their movements.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat have they found out?\u201d Mark asked a bit interested in this part.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOnly that they have picked up some intercepts,\u201d Victoria said, she would have said more when her phone dinked indicating some new information.\u00a0 \u201cOh, this is interesting,\u201d she stated leaving Mark wondering what was going on.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re sending a ship and some diplomats to the rebellion to talk to them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh, whose going?\u201d Mark asked, knowing that he probably wouldn\u2019t\u2019 be, he was needed here to help defend Earth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSenator Jeff, a few other military people and intelligence people along with Senator Greg Nabrov,\u201d Victoria said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat will be interesting,\u201d Mark said hoping it all went well.<\/span><\/p>\n

*****<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeff walked onto the transport Jupiter along with Tzittif and Iccol, a Simian who was helping Toncor with the relocation of their people to Mars.\u00a0 Jeff learned from Toncor that Iccol was a young politician before the invasion and this meeting would be good for him to learn to grow.\u00a0 Jeff hoped Toncor was right about that. <\/span><\/p>\n

They had decided to take a human transport as the Pak had smaller ceilings than human ships and any human would be crouched in most areas due to the smaller size of the Leceaubia race.\u00a0\u00a0 Belru was staying down on the planet as he was working with intelligence learning even more about the O\u2019krad.\u00a0 For some reason the alien had taken to the intelligence department and was becoming a vital asset to helping learn about the O\u2019krad.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSenator, how long will the jump take to reach HQ?\u201d Tzittif asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to the captain it will take about a day jump for us,\u201d Jeff replied.\u00a0 The rebellion HQ was quite a distance away, and this would be the largest jump for a human ship ever undertaken. \u00a0The biggest difference was the fact they had the path to take.\u00a0 There would be no guessing on the jump.\u00a0 Because of that the jump was much shorter than without knowing the path.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI see, a bit longer than our jump engines,\u201d Tzittif replied.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s strange how you can match the Dark Race and still be behind us in technology.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNot really,\u201d Jeff replied causing Tzittif to look back at him.\u00a0 \u201cYou are concerned with developing certain areas of technology where we used some of that tech to develop improved weapons systems and such.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIs that really important?\u201d Tzittif asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, if you don\u2019t develop new weapons then you stagnate in your weapon development,\u201d Jeff said.\u00a0 \u201cIt might have occurred with the O\u2019krad as well.\u00a0 They\u2019ve had no reason to develop new weapons, until now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He watched as Tzittif seemed to think about that.\u00a0 It made Jeff wonder what type of reaction he would get from the rebellion.<\/span><\/p>\n

*****<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeff made his way down the corridor on board the \u2018rebellion\u2019 station.\u00a0 A large station which had a dozen ships around it, all of which were warships of different types.\u00a0 He assumed it was survivors from different races which had been attacked by the O\u2019krad over the years.\u00a0 The ceiling was a bit low for him, but he managed as they passed a doorway and entered a large meeting room.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was motioned towards a chair and sat down.\u00a0 It was a bit small but would do for now.\u00a0 He looked around seeing several other aliens enter the room including a few others who seemed more important than the others.\u00a0 All appeared humanoid in appearance leaving Jeff to wonder if there was evolutionally superiority to the design.\u00a0 Of course they all appeared smaller than a normal human as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

One, a blue skinned looking alien, which had two small tentacle like things above each eye sat down and seemed to take charge of the meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGreetings,\u201d he said to Jeff.\u00a0 \u201cI am President Lumin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJeff Cerial, senator of Earth,\u201d Jeff replied.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI must admit, we are, well, surprised by everything we\u2019ve learned recently,\u201d Lumin said to him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs are we,\u201d Jeff stated being diplomatic to them at the moment.\u00a0 He would hear what they had to say before making any decisions, and he would have to speak with his leaders before agreeing to anything.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou Earthers are quite, surprising in your resistance to the Dark Race,\u201d Lumin stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t take kindly to people who want to invade our home,\u201d Jeff replied.\u00a0 He watched as a few others looked on before Lumin spoke again introducing several of the others.<\/span><\/p>\n

The military leader was an alien of the same race as Lumin, called Vislo, along with another orlian, the same as Belru, who was an aide to Lumin called Orlisa and was a female.<\/span><\/p>\n

There were also several other aliens who he was introduced to who were senators in the rebellion\u2019s government.\u00a0 They appeared very organized and yet, seemed already defeated by the O\u2019krad.\u00a0 Of course what Jeff knew of the group meant they really were not fighting but delaying the advance of the O\u2019krad.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am curious, how large is your military that you can defend yourself against the Dark Race,\u201d Vislo asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur military is actually smaller than your military, and the O\u2019krad, but I won\u2019t say how many ships are in it,\u201d Jeff said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThen how did you manage to stop the Dark Race?\u201d another senator asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe did what you do in war,\u201d Jeff said knowing he was going to shock the group.\u00a0 \u201cWe fought as they would.\u00a0 It is kill or be killed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He looked on watching as the group in front of him went silent for several seconds.\u00a0 The same reaction that Belru and Tzittif had given them when they were told.\u00a0 Of course the rebellion had managed without killing.\u00a0 To humanity it seemed a way to lose a war easily.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry, but such tactics seem, well, barbaric to us,\u201d Lumin stated, even as other agreed with him.\u00a0 Several seemed almost outraged by such actions and Jeff waited a few seconds before saying anything else.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI never said we enjoyed it,\u201d he said to them.\u00a0 \u201cHowever, in war you cannot give your enemy even a slight advantage, or you put yourself at a disadvantage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThen how do you maintain your moral high ground?\u2019 Lumin asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat does that high ground get you if you lose the war?\u201d Jeff asked knowing the question Lumin asked was almost exactly what they were asked by Tzittif not long ago.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe satisfaction of not giving into your enemy,\u201d Lumin replied.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, but who knows that?\u201d Jeff asked.\u00a0 \u201cAll that\u2019s left is the enemy, and there is a saying on my planet, the victor writes the history.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m afraid I do not understand,\u201d one of the others said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt means the person who is victorious writes the history books, and they will write history in such a way to make themselves appear better,\u201d Jeff said knowing it happened over and over again throughout Earth\u2019s history.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDoes that not taint history?\u2019 Lumin asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn a way, yes, but its how some groups act,\u201d Jeff said.\u00a0 \u201cNot everyone acts like you do, not everyone has the same customs.\u00a0 You say you\u2019re open minded, then close your mind at the thought of something different than you.\u00a0 You try to force your way on a group which probably considers your group cowards and deserving to be killed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat is a difficult thing to accept, and you insult us by saying we\u2019re not open minded,\u201d Lumin said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeff looked at them all before finally speaking again.\u00a0 \u201cLook, there is a group called the O\u2019krad who are trying to conquer the universe, and it appears you don\u2019t seem to want to stop them from taking over the universe.\u00a0 You will reach a point where you have to stop running, not because you don\u2019t want to, but you have no place to go.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He watched the group for several seconds as they seemed to think about that.\u00a0 Vislo spoke up much to his surprise.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou say all of that, but yet, actually doing it is very different, hard for a race to do,\u201d Vislo said.\u00a0 \u201cWe have made it this far because of our values.\u00a0 To toss them aside is something we are unwilling to do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs are we,\u201d Jeff said shocking several of them.\u00a0 \u201cMy race is not one to allow someone else to attack us without fighting back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeff noticed they all seemed unsure of it all and he recalled something Toncor said to him.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was told by another friend of mine, a Simian named Toncor, that the human race was raised by the universe differently than many other races,\u201d Jeff said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t understand,\u201d Lumin said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur planet, it\u2019s a very dangerous place,\u201d Jeff said.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019ve grown up facing dangers all the time.\u00a0 On our planet you learn how to defend yourself, or you become someone else\u2019s dinner, literally.\u00a0 The predators and the prey, a constant evolution of change to adapt to each other.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He looked on as they appeared to consider that bit. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur nature is to fight, and if it means to kill, we will.\u00a0 Many of us will fight when cornered, its when we are most dangerous,\u201d Jeff said to them.\u00a0 \u201cIt won\u2019t matter what you say, we will fight the way we know how.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Now all he had to do was wait to see how they might react to this all.\u00a0 Humanity\u2019s way of fighting was vastly different than the rebellions.<\/span><\/p>\n
