Master of Violence<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Part 15<\/p>\n

Angie made her way along with Jack though the very dark streets.\u00a0 There was little light, but up ahead there appeared to be some activity going on by the light in the sky.\u00a0 It did make her cautious about going too far and close but Jack seemed to want to get closer.<\/p>\n

Moving along in silence they continued as the lights grew brighter as they approached the construction going on.\u00a0 Finally they moved closer and were able to see what was going on from their vantage point.\u00a0 It appeared there were groups cleaning up the debris, and not everyone was human.\u00a0 She could see several aliens of different types moving along around working.<\/p>\n

The groups were picking up and removing debris all by their hands, no machinery at all causing Angie to frown at the labor intensive work when there were better ways.<\/p>\n

She spotted a couple of guards walking around.\u00a0 They stopped and shouted a few things at one of the workers who appeared to back up almost fearful of what was going on.\u00a0 Before Angie could even prepare for it the guard shot the worker.\u00a0 She placed her hand over her mouth to prevent anything from coming out.<\/p>\n

Looking around at the others she noticed a distinct difference between humans and other aliens. The other aliens all shank back in fear, but the human reaction was very mixed.\u00a0 A few cowered, several others appeared to tense, and Angie noticed a few fists before they continued to work.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf only there was a way to speak with one of them,\u201d Jack said quietly. \u00a0Angie wasn\u2019t sure she wanted to speak with any of them even as Jack continued to look around.\u00a0 \u201cStay here.\u201d<\/p>\n

She wasn\u2019t sure what was going on but watched as he vanished.\u00a0 She huddled down keeping an eye out for the guards but they seemed to be having fun yelling at the workers, many of whom shrank away at being called out.\u00a0 Even as she watched one human seemed to freeze slightly.\u00a0 She watched as he looked around before moving to a spot and appeared to work, but even from here she noticed he was talking.\u00a0 After a few seconds he moved away taking some debris with him and clearing it.<\/p>\n

Angie continued to watch before realizing he was familiar, and was one of Jack\u2019s friends.\u00a0 He survived somehow and Jack probably knew it.\u00a0 She scanned the group looking for anyone she might know, but saw no one.\u00a0 A second later jack reappeared.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome on,\u201d he said to her.<\/p>\n

Angie was glad to move away from the depressing scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was interesting,\u201d Jack whispered once they were far enough away.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t know what they were making, only being forced, they are slaves at best.\u00a0 Right now they are forced to clean up the rubble, but without any equipment.\u00a0 They moved so slow they brought in other races to speed things up.\u00a0 They wear collars to prevent them from escaping,\u201d Jack said.\u00a0 \u201cAlso found out one more thing, they are called O\u2019krads.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnything else,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNope, only that there are more still alive, the work goes on twenty-four seven.\u00a0 He works this shift, but there are others working during the day,\u201d he said to her.<\/p>\n

Stopping at the destroyed mall Jack looked around before using his shirt to hide the light of the phone and typed out a message and sent it off.<\/p>\n

\u201cWish I had been able to get some pictures,\u201d Jack said.<\/p>\n

Angie understood why, the light of the phone might have given away their position, something they didn\u2019t want to have happen.\u00a0 Things appeared to be getting more and more complex to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing to come back tomorrow night, he said he\u2019s going to try to gain some information for us,\u201d Jack said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right,\u201d she said as they moved on back into the forest and headed back to their hiding spot.\u00a0 The only thing she really felt glad about was the fact the patrols in the forest had quieted down a lot in the past day or two.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Mark looked at his phone again, seeing another message from Angie, this time it gave a bit more information.\u00a0 Looking on he noticed a new name, the O\u2019krads.\u00a0 This was the name of the mysterious Dark Race.<\/p>\n

They had a name upon which to call the enemy.\u00a0 Now all they needed was when they might attack, if at all.\u00a0 That bit of information he doubted would come.\u00a0 But he hoped to gain some more information about who they were and what they might want, if anything at all.<\/p>\n

He took that bit of information and sent it down to the intel knowing they would like that, and it would be used on all the major news stations and blogs across the internet.<\/p>\n

Going over the reports he noticed that Hans had given him a choice for a new XO of the Enterprise.\u00a0 The guy was actually from another ship but had worked with Hans before.\u00a0 They would have a good relationship already and he approved the transfer.\u00a0 A knock on the door caused him to look up to see Victoria standing there.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome in,\u201d Mark said.\u00a0 \u201cIs there something wrong?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, been looking all of the new intelligence,\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cFind something?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, but there is a mention from both groups of a resistance against this Dark Race,\u201d she replied back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe O\u2019krad,\u201d Mark said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPardon?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cO\u2019krad, it\u2019s what they are called, just found out myself,\u201d Mark stated watched as she frowned at that.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow did you find out before me, isn\u2019t that part of my job, to inform you of such developments?\u201d she asked sounding a bit miffed at being left out of the loop.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe source of information from Sierra is my niece, she texts me which is automatically also sent to intel for evaluation,\u201d Mark said watching as she digested that bit of news.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I\u2019ll be second to know most times,\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, anything which comes from intel I might not know, they could have discovered something from what I sent down.\u00a0 I don\u2019t analyze it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI see,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat about this resistance group?\u201d Mark asked, putting the conversation back on track.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, both the Simians and Volors mention such a group but we have yet to actually have any contact with them, nor do they know anything about them,\u201d Victoria said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou think this group could help us out?\u201d Mark asked wondering about the possibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, from what we\u2019ve heard they are organized somewhat, and are fighting the Dark Race, I mean O\u2019krad\u201d she said to him.\u00a0 \u201cThey might have technology we might be able to use in our fight against them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOr additional ships, or provide us with better intel about them,\u201d Mark said wondering about this group.\u00a0 He had heard about them through some briefings but nothing solid about them.\u00a0 The Simians had been unable to give any real information about them.\u00a0 They had shown up before their planet had been attacked and warned them of the impeding attack and promised to help slow the O\u2019krads down, which they did.\u00a0 However, they were unable to stop the O\u2019krads from attacking and taking over the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsidering we don\u2019t know much about them at all,\u201d Victoria replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid they find anything about that weapon?\u201d Mark asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly that it appears to work on the same principle as our guns, a projectile but the power source is unknown.\u00a0 Using only pictures it\u2019s a bit harder to determine the actual process.\u00a0 However, they don\u2019t think the gun itself is more powerful than what we have,\u201d she replied back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat might help us, doesn\u2019t tell us anything about their ship\u2019s weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou really think they\u2019ll attack Earth?\u201d she asked him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, its not if, but when,\u201d Mark said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSounds like a natural disaster, not if, but when,\u201d she said back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNeed to prepare, the more we\u2019re ready the better off we\u2019ll be,\u201d Mark said looking at his desk.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore reports,\u201d she said.\u00a0 \u201cHow are you adjusting to being admiral?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWas pretty much doing this, now I have the rank to go with it,\u201d Mark replied.\u00a0 He had been doing the job being the captain of the Enterprise usually mean he was in charge of any fleet he was a part of unless Admiral Jorkenstein was with them.\u00a0 The fleet now had two admirals and appeared to be expanding.\u00a0 He wondered where this might be going next.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first of the Fletcher class destroyers are being laid down,\u201d she said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cFinally gave them a name,\u201d he said recalling that Fletcher was also the name of a class of US destroyers back in World War 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, went with some history,\u201d she said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, hopefully they live up to their name,\u201d he replied.\u00a0 They had a lot of work to do and he wasn\u2019t sure they had much time to do it in.<\/p>\n

Joe relaxed in the rec room.\u00a0 They had been on and off alerts lately and the mood among the pilots was actually good considering everything.\u00a0 He considered everything which happened in the past few weeks.\u00a0 He never imagined that when he went for the patrol after the test jump what might happen next.<\/p>\n

Of course he understood that the attack on Sierra probably would have happened regardless of what happened with the aliens.\u00a0 He also understood that his name would be associated with the aliens having been the one who discovered the ship.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, what\u2019s going on?\u201d Carl said sitting down next to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cRelaxing a bit, been busy lately,\u201d Joe replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s true, and after everything I\u2019ll take something relaxing,\u201d Carl replied.\u00a0 \u201cYou hear the latest?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHeard a report that we know the name of these aliens now,\u201d Carl said.\u00a0 \u201cO\u2019krad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cO\u2019krad, what type of name is that,\u201d Joe asked.\u00a0 \u201cExpected something more threatening sounding.\u00a0 Dark Race sounded better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019ll agree,\u201d Carl stated.\u00a0 \u201cSo, hear anything else?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo you?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNah, only that the skipper will probably call a few more alerts in the coming weeks,\u201d Carl replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnything about when they might attack?\u201d Joe asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cNope, but as long as they give us time, we can get more stations back online.\u00a0 Heard that the Gamma station is almost online now, just needs to undergo testing to make sure it all works,\u201d Carl said back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaven\u2019t heard that,\u201d Joe replied wondering where he got all of his information.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe other stations still have some work to do,\u201d Carl said, as another couple of pilots joined them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s new?\u201d Nick asked sitting down with them.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust going over the latest rumors,\u201d Joe replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, what news is that?\u201d Percy asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly their name, the O\u2019krads,\u201d Carl said to them.<\/p>\n

Joe watched as both Percy and Nick seemed to frown at the name.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s it?<\/p>\n

\u201cYep.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSeems a bit of a let down,\u201d Nick said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what I said,\u201d Joe stated recalling what he said only a few moments before they walked in.<\/p>\n

\u201cWonder what else might happen,\u201d Nick said.\u00a0 \u201cAny idea how strong they are?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNope, that worries a lot of people as well,\u201d Carl said.\u00a0 \u201cSeems the captain is concerned as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou mean admiral now,\u201d Joe said recalling the fact the captain had been promoted recently.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight,\u201d Carl said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo when do you two go on patrol?\u201d Nick asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re off for a while, why?\u201d Carl replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, seems like things always happen when you\u2019re on patrol, just trying to figure out when they might come,\u201d Nick said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks,\u201d Joe said unsure if he should feel insulted or not.\u00a0 But they had a lot to do still and he hoped they would not come any time soon.<\/p>\n
