Part 8<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeff was amazed at the entire ship.\u00a0 Despite so many people on board, the ship had been designed for so many and was working incredibly well.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry to interrupt,\u201d another Simian said who Jeff was unaware of but he looked at Toncor.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes?\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a message for the senator from the surface, they say its urgent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery well,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

Jeff felt unsure about heading to their bridge and made his way thought the ship following the two.\u00a0 Upon entering the bridge he remembered to duck going through the doorway.\u00a0 They led him over to the communications and waited.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, senator,\u201d the person said and Jeff found himself looking at the admiral, Richard Jorkenstein.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdmiral, what\u2019s up?\u201d Jeff asked unsure why the admiral might be contacting him here at this time and not waiting until he returned.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re needed back on Earth,\u201d Richard said.\u00a0 \u201cThere\u2019s been a development on Sierra.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were some explosions and all communications were cut off,\u201d Richard said making Jeff frown but he failed to see why he was needed planetside right away.\u00a0 \u201cThere is indications it was attacked.\u201d<\/p>\n

That got his attention fast.\u00a0 If they had been attacked then there was only one group they knew of who might do it, this unknown Dark Race Toncor had been talking about.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow sure are you?\u201d Jeff asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are images of the ship from the station,\u201d Richard said.\u00a0 \u201cThere are already conspiracies going on the net, especially considering the timing of the communications going out do not match up with the first explosions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot sure I like this either,\u201d Jeff said.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ll be right down.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGood, we\u2019ll be waiting for you, the president has ordered a special meeting as well,\u201d Richard said.\u00a0 \u201cShe also would like a representative of the Simian race to be there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I can get one of them to come,\u201d Jeff replied turning to Toncor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can go down, especially if his concerns us,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt might,\u201d Jeff said knowing that he had been listening in.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the Dark Race had found us, then we are out of time,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, we\u2019ll have to decide now, and inform the public of this as well.\u00a0 I fear that their attack will heavily influence our decisions,\u201d Jeff said, thinking about it in ways he knew Toncor would never envision, or perhaps, even this Dark Race.\u00a0 Did they know what they were unleashing?<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should allow you to build your transports quicker,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cActually, I was thinking the opposite, it will make many want to fight,\u201d Jeff said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou will want to fight, even after this?\u201d Toncor replied almost amazed at the thought.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey attacked us, by surprise.\u00a0 Its not something our race takes lightly,\u201d Jeff replied.\u00a0 \u201cIn a way they did the very thing to bind us together, to eliminate the debate.\u201d<\/p>\n

He noticed Toncor had no idea what Jeff was talking about.\u00a0 He would discover that for himself when he went down to the surface.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we need to head down and get this sorted out,\u201d Jeff finally said.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery well.\u201d<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Jeff walked into the meeting room along with Toncor seeing Admiral Jorkenstein already in there, along with Senator Isa Liam and a few others who were already there.\u00a0 Making his way over to sit down he watched the others, all of whom were quiet, thinking about what happened and what information they had.<\/p>\n

Jeff had the feeling he knew the least about what happened.\u00a0 The only thing he really had was there had been an invasion of Sierra, not some explosion as the news reports indicated.\u00a0 Upon reaching the government building he had bene hounded by the press about the communications blackout going on regarding the explosions.\u00a0 Jeff stated he didn\u2019t know much, which wasn\u2019t far from the truth.<\/p>\n

The door opened allowing the President and a couple of aides to walk in.\u00a0 She wasted no time sitting down and looking over at Richard.\u00a0 \u201cWell, what do we know?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we have isn\u2019t much,\u201d Richard said causing Jeff to frown.\u00a0 If they didn\u2019t have much why were they assuming anything?\u00a0 \u201cHowever, we do have some pieces of information.\u201d<\/p>\n

The screen came to life behind the Admiral.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis image was caught by Sierra\u2019s Space Station during the attempted communications with Earth,\u201d Richard said.<\/p>\n

The image appeared, and while not really in focus, and pixelated, showed the image of a ship unknown to anything Jeff had seen before.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do we know this is some sort of invasion ship?\u201d Isa asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince getting this image, our communications experts went to work seeing if they could find anything else,\u201d Richard said.\u00a0 \u201cThere is something else to go along with this.\u201d<\/p>\n

They watched the screen again.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis came from the freighter Archer,\u201d Richard said.<\/p>\n

This time the screen came to life, and instead of a poor quality vid, this one was much higher, showing the approach of at least four of the triangle shaped ships.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnknown ships please identify.\u201d<\/p>\n

Silence continued on as the ships closed the distance before a bright beam lashed out from one of the ships.\u00a0 The video shook, blurred slightly before Jeff realized the ships were firing upon the freighter.\u00a0 A second later the image disappeared.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis video has yet to be released, but we have a feeling it won\u2019t be long before hackers will have found this as well.\u00a0 Many conspiracy sites are already looking into this explosion for more things to talk about.\u00a0 Its especially important considering the explosions started after communications was lost, not before indicting it wasn\u2019t the cause of the blackout in information,\u201d Richard said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we have to head such conspiracies off now,\u201d Natile stated.<\/p>\n

Jeff looked on at the others before looking at Toncor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis video is interesting, but I cannot conform if this is the Dark Race or not,\u201d he finally said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy not!\u201d Isa said, looking angrily at Toncor.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause, I never saw what their ships looked like,\u201d Toncor replied honestly.\u00a0 \u201cWe left in a hurry and didn\u2019t take the time to actually figure out what their ships looked like, or what they were capable of.\u00a0 But, I can think of no other race who would do such a thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we\u2019re left with an unknown race which has attacked us,\u201d Natile said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt appears, that regardless of which race it is, they have attacked us and we are at war with them,\u201d Jeff said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWar, there hasn\u2019t been a war in over a hundred years,\u201d Isa said, suddenly backtracking on his previous statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen what would you call this attack upon Sierra?\u00a0 I classify such an action as a declaration of war,\u201d Jeff replied back at him.\u00a0 Everyone waited to see what Isa would say next.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs much as I don\u2019t want to see war, I must admit, I cannot see why a race would do such a thing,\u201d Isa said before turning to Toncor.\u00a0 \u201cHas anyone actually tried to speak to them?\u201d<\/p>\n

They looked back at Toncor who contemplated the question for several seconds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do not know,\u201d he finally said.\u00a0 \u201cAs I stated, we left quickly to avoid being fired upon, but it is possible some left behind might have tried to negotiate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we might not even know if they are enslaving everyone at all,\u201d Isa said.\u00a0 \u201cThey could be expanding an Empire, and conquered races are merely absorbed into their empire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeff nodded, realizing it was a natural, and logical statement and wondered why he hadn\u2019t considered the possibility as well.\u00a0 However, it still didn\u2019t sit well with him that this race attacked them without warning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen why did they not answer the hail?\u201d Richard questioned back.\u00a0 \u201cIf they are only expanding their empire, as you say, would they not be open to also negotiating when the opportunity presented itself?\u00a0 Are there not easier ways to expand ones empire than conquest?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen what do you suggest?\u201d Isa asked.<\/p>\n

Jeff watched the two stare each other down.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou bring up an interesting proposal,\u201d Toncor said speaking up interrupting the stare down.\u00a0 \u201cWe assumed they were there to conquer us, and enslave us.\u00a0 We never entertained the possibility of something else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, we cannot exclude the idea that they are here to conquer us,\u201d Natile said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn intelligent race simply conquering another race because they can?\u201d Isa said, sounding doubtful about the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what intelligent race wouldn\u2019t give warning before attacking?\u201d Richard said.\u00a0 \u201cThis situation has two different sides, both are logical.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do we do?\u201d Jeff said.\u00a0 \u201cThe public will demand some course of action over this.\u201d<\/p>\n

They sat there considering the situation for several seconds before the president spoke.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs there a way we can pursue both avenues until we discover which is the correct and which is wrong?\u201d Natile said.\u00a0 \u201cThis was an attack on our sovereignty, and we could negotiate with another empire.\u00a0 Make no mistake, I will defend my people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeff nodded realizing there was the core of humanity speaking out.\u00a0 They would not rollover and be an easy target.\u00a0 They could do both.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a suggestion, an envoy,\u201d Isa said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a very possible solution,\u201d Natile said.\u00a0 \u201cWe would want volunteers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen I would volunteer,\u201d Isa replied.<\/p>\n

Jeff felt unsure about the entire thing, but also knew if they wanted to find the truth they needed someone who believed in their cause.\u00a0 Isa believed in his cause, he would work to make it succeed.\u00a0 But it also brought up problems, he would become blind to the possibility of the fact this alien race had come to conquer them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we have both to work on,\u201d Natile said.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ll go to congress and inform them of what happened, and the paths we are going to use.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeff wondered what might happen next and how congress might react to this.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Toncor went over and sat down listening to the congress.\u00a0 He had been invited in case they wanted to ask more questions not that he had many answers when it came to the Dark Race.\u00a0 In fact the last meeting had been quite enlightening to him.\u00a0 he never considered the possibility that they might be expanding an Empire and absorbing other races into their empire.\u00a0 It was a tantalizing thought and one he considered intriguing.\u00a0 If that was true, then he wasted all this time for nothing.<\/p>\n

Of course if that thought was wrong then he would be a slave, or dead instead of right here.<\/p>\n

The President came out and gave a small speech.\u00a0 She was cautious in her statements, but he also heard her speak hard about what could also be a threat.<\/p>\n

As Toncor thought about that part he realized once more this human race was very different than any other race he has so far met.\u00a0\u00a0 The idea they had been attacked without warning anger them.\u00a0 In fact he had a feeling some of the senators in the room wanted only to fight.<\/p>\n

The admiral, Richard, came over and sat down next to Toncor.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, what do you think?\u201d Richard whispered to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re race is, interesting,\u201d Toncor finally said after some thought.\u00a0 \u201cEarly on I considered your race like ours.\u00a0 Then I saw some history, and thought you were more like the Dark Race.\u00a0 Now, its an odd mix you have here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy thank you,\u201d Richard said surprising Toncor.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t consider it anything to be thankful for.\u00a0 In fact, to be compared to the Dark Race at all was a dangerous thing, to the point of it being an insult.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m afraid I won\u2019t understand you humans,\u201d he finally said to Richard.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother compliment,\u201d Richard said causing Toncor to turn and look at the admiral.<\/p>\n

The voting came up for the proposal.\u00a0 Toncor wondered how they would vote.\u00a0 The proposal was to send an envoy, but also begin the build-up of defenses around the planet and new warships and for now, they would refrain from openly declaring war against this Dark Race until new information allowed for a more formal proposal of relations between the two races.<\/p>\n

The human race, to Toncor, seemed determined to prepare for war.<\/p>\n
