Part 6<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Toncor looked on at the situation going on.\u00a0 It had been a few Earth days now since their arrival at Earth.\u00a0 Things appeared to be looking up, the portable communicators had been prepared which they could wear without the larger translator.\u00a0 It appeared as a small unit in their ears, the humans said it appeared as a hearing aide.<\/p>\n

Hakkas walked up to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow go the repairs?\u201d Toncor asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will take some time, they have to develop the parts from scratch, but they seemed confident it can be done,\u201d Hakkas said back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood,\u201d Toncor said lapsing back into silence.\u00a0 Once more his thoughts went back to the humans and their reactions in the first meeting.\u00a0 Since that first meeting there had been no discussion about the \u2018Dark Race\u2019, other than a few side talks which were out of the public eye.\u00a0 In fact, the officials of the human government seemed to want to keep any mention of such a race quiet to the point they asked Toncor and the others not to mention it in front of anyone else, including other workers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are you thinking of?\u201d Hakkas asked.<\/p>\n

Toncor looked around to make sure no humans were nearby.\u00a0 \u201cIts their suggestion not to talk about the \u2018Dark Race\u2019.\u00a0 It concerns me a bit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn what way, seems to me they are avoiding a panic, like we did,\u201d Hakkas replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, but when we talk about them, they want more and more information we don\u2019t have,\u201d Toncor said.\u00a0 \u201cInformation about their ships, technology even tactics.\u00a0 Such questions make no sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you think it means?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know, but these humans, they are unlike any race I think we\u2019ve ever encountered,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn, Toncor, here you are,\u201d Aviella said walking up to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomething happen?\u201d Toncor asked wondering why she might be looking for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou wanted to know when I got some translated files on the human history, or I should say we have some videos they sent up, we can watch them,\u201d she said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cLearning their history, why?\u201d Hakkas asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can learn a lot about a race by their history,\u201d Toncor replied back to him.\u00a0 \u201cIn this case, perhaps we can gain some information about who they are.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSeems like a waste of time to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we didn\u2019t learn who they were, then it would be a waste of time,\u201d Aviella said.<\/p>\n

Toncor could tell Hakkas seemed unconvinced by it all.\u00a0 Instead he moved with Aviella towards a small room where they could watch the video and learn about their benefactors.\u00a0 Depending on what they saw they might even show it to the rest of the group on board, to alleviate the boredom on the ship.<\/p>\n

Sitting down he waited as Aviella messed with the computer a bit and then sat down as well.\u00a0 Now he would learn some things.<\/p>\n

Angie made her way to class, she had math next, which she hated.\u00a0 She never understood why they had to take it.\u00a0 Most of the stuff they never used anyways.<\/p>\n

Of course the real news had been the aliens who had landed on Earth.\u00a0 She had been talking with her uncle who had given her some insight to the aliens, even some of their names which were not on the news.\u00a0 She also learned there were some things going on which had not been mentioned and he couldn\u2019t mention.\u00a0 It made her wonder what else was going on.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey Ang, you heading to the caf\u00e9?\u201d Krys said walking up to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t, have Algebra,\u201d Angie replied with a frown.<\/p>\n

\u201cUgh.\u00a0 Who do you have?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cProfessor MacMagan,\u201d Angie replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not too bad,\u201d Krys said.\u00a0 \u201cAt least he\u2019s not Gears.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d Angie said, recalling him from last year.\u00a0 \u201cA big pervert.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHeather swears he kept trying to look up her skirt if she wore one,\u201d Krys said.<\/p>\n

Angie nodded, it was a reason she didn\u2019t sit in the front row, but more the middle of the class.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou hear the latest rumors?\u201d Krys said as they turned down the hallway towards the classroom.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, but you\u2019ll probably tell me,\u201d Angie replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rumor is there is some major war going on, this group is really looking for allies,\u201d Krys said.<\/p>\n

Angie rolled her eyes at that knowing it was probably false.\u00a0 But a small part of her wondered about what her uncle was talking about in the secret meetings he was a part of.\u00a0 It was hush-hush, but it didn\u2019t seem like something which would be war.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think you read too many conspiracy sites,\u201d Angie said.\u00a0 \u201cMy uncle says nothing about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s only a captain in the military,\u201d Krys said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd has been involved in most of the meetings with the aliens, including the first meeting with them,\u201d Angie replied back to her friend.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, they are hiding something, can\u2019t deny that.\u00a0 They are up to something, and its only a matter of time before the truth comes out and everyone knows what is going on.\u201d Krys replied back.<\/p>\n

Angie shook her head as she reached her class.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou going to head to the Ship after class?\u201d Krys asked, talking about the caf\u00e9 everyone liked to hang out at.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t, have work after class,\u201d Angie said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, well, we\u2019ll be there for a while, probably do our homework there,\u201d Krys replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, I have tomorrow off and only one class, probably go there to do some work, get out of the house,\u201d Angie said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right,\u201d Krys said, as Angie walked into class ready to be overwhelmed by math she didn\u2019t understand.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Toncor finished watching the video slightly stunned by what he had seen.\u00a0 He watched a race full of warfare and violence unlike anything he had thought possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, are we sure we want to accept their help?\u201d Aviella finally asked.<\/p>\n

Toncor gave it some consideration before giving an answer.\u00a0 \u201cI think we may not have much of a choice in asking for help.\u00a0 If we don\u2019t get help here then we will probably be floating around in space somewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, but this race, I\u2019m not sure they are stable,\u201d Aviella said.<\/p>\n

Toncor gave the idea some consideration.\u00a0 They appeared quite violent, at least their history was full of war, and they celebrated war heroes, something he couldn\u2019t understand much.\u00a0 Yet they also had a history of other things, like music and arts which rivaled his own race.\u00a0 An odd mix he thought when looking at it all.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe, but they have been at peace now for a while,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wonder how much more violent the Dark Race\u2019s history must be if this is any indication,\u201d Aviella stated.<\/p>\n

Toncor couldn\u2019t even imagine that.\u00a0 The Dark Race must be full of such things, even more than the humans to head to enslave any race they come across in the universe.<\/p>\n

A chime interrupted their thoughts as Toncor went over to the communicator.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry to interrupt, but the Senator from Earth is here to speak with you,\u201d Hakkas stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight,\u201d Toncor said recalling that Senator Jeff Cerial was coming up to meet with him.\u00a0 \u201cTell him I\u2019ll be right there.\u201d<\/p>\n

He looked over at Aviella for a second who seemed to be waiting.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess I shouldn\u2019t keep him waiting too long, it would be a poor manners on my part,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what of this new information?\u201d she asked him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s best to not tell anyone, nor show that to anyone on board just yet.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to cause a panic,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Toncor made his way out of the office and towards the meeting area.\u00a0 He walked through the door and entered the room to see Jeff had already sat down, a bit awkwardly considering the chairs were a bit smaller for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cWelcome senator,\u201d Toncor said moving into the room.\u00a0 Jeff stood and extended his hand, which Toncor took.\u00a0 It was a greeting by humans and something his race lacked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for inviting me on board,\u201d Jeff replied.\u00a0 \u201cYou\u2019re ship is rather interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that while looking around the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd your technology, very impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot quite what we had back home, but it\u2019s a slice of what we are capable of,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

They sat back down and Toncor\u2019s curiosity got the better of him.<\/p>\n

\u201cShaking hands, what significance does that have in your society when greeting?\u201d Toncor asked.\u00a0 \u201cWe have nothing like it in our society.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, the myth is that it\u2019s a way to greet someone and show the person you\u2019re greeting you do not have a weapon.\u00a0 Back when swords were the weapon it showed your weapon hand was empty,\u201d Jeff replied back to him.\u00a0 \u201cWhether or not that is true I don\u2019t know, as I said, that\u2019s the myth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI see,\u201d Toncor said, realizing that even their greeting had to do with weapons and fighting.\u00a0 \u201cI must admit, I saw some of your history on a video and was shocked.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh?\u201d Jeff replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe amount of violence was disturbing,\u201d Toncor said.<\/p>\n

The statement seemed to take Jeff by surprise as he seemed to fumble for an answer or reply as Toncor continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur race has been at peace among ourselves for over a thousand of your years.\u00a0\u00a0 When the last war we had ended it was decided there had been too much bloodshed to ever happen again,\u201d Toncor said.\u00a0 \u201cThe idea of war is a very foreign concept to us now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI see,\u201d Jeff said.\u00a0 \u201cWell, I don\u2019t know, only that we as a species will stand up for what we think is right.\u00a0 We have others who want power and will do anything to obtain such power.\u00a0 As a result both sides are willing to fight and die for what they believe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIts something which is disturbing to us, as a result I have not shown it to my people, they might panic over it,\u201d Toncor said honestly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see,\u201d Jeff replied.\u00a0 \u201cI honestly can say such a society is unknown to me.\u00a0 I can\u2019t even imagine such a thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo you would destroy it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, you misinterpret my meaning,\u201d Jeff said.\u00a0 \u201cI mean your society can appease two opposite ideals at the same time?\u00a0 When that happens in our society it causes stresses which slowly builds up, like a pot of water until it finally boils over.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAn interesting metaphor,\u201d Toncor replied thinking about it.\u00a0 They always were able to talk about such things and violence between groups was frowned upon to the point if one did resort to such tactics they were shunned by all of society, including their own supporters.\u00a0 \u201cWe don\u2019t have such things, violence to solve a problem is intensely frowned upon by my society.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMakes me wish we had that mentality,\u201d Jeff replied.\u00a0 \u201cEven now we have stresses upon our society working against the peace we\u2019ve tried to establish.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs this happening about this Dark Race, or our appearance?\u201d Toncor asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, nothing about either as the public doesn\u2019t know about the Dark Race yet.\u00a0 When that happens we\u2019ll have at least two groups screaming about what is best for the population.\u00a0 One group will be like you, and want to leave.\u00a0 Another group will want to fight,\u201d Jeff said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you?\u201d Toncor asked, waiting to see what he might say.<\/p>\n

\u201cFight.\u201d<\/p>\n
