Part 32<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Meia watched General Porkins walk into the room and head straight to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cMa\u2019am, glad to see you\u2019re still alive, the admiral will be glad. Though,\u201d he paused to look her over, \u201cyou appear a bit worse for wear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHad a bit of a fight with my uncle, had some problems but managed to make it through,\u201d Meia said to him. \u201cI need your help in restoring order to the city and palace.\u00a0 Have the captain of the Enforcers report to me as soon as possible, we need to make a few changes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes ma\u2019am,\u201d Frank said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow many did we lose?\u201d Meia asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommander Dean states he lost seventy-eight men, and another thirty-six wounded, most from the shuttle which went down. The resistance lost ten people, two wounded and the palace guards lost ninety men, another sixty-three wounded,\u201d he said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlmost two hundred people, and several thousand more in space,\u201d Meia sighed feeling the weight of the lives. \u201cIts too much.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understood the risks Meia,\u201d Frank said to her placing an arm on the shoulder the doctor wasn\u2019t working on before heading out to carry out his orders.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, I think you\u2019ll do just fine, a nice change indeed,\u201d the doctor said.<\/p>\n

She looked at him for several seconds wondering what he was talking about.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou feel the loss of life, something Prince Boris did as well, and what Emperor Henry did not,\u201d he said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI fear it will be rough,\u201d Meia said instead.<\/p>\n

She grew quiet and merely watched as the doctor went about his actions.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre the wounded being treated?\u201d Meia finally asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, they have their own med lab, this is for the royal family only,\u201d he said to her. \u201cYou could say I\u2019m your personal doctor on call for anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

That felt strange to Meia, having her own doctor.<\/p>\n

She looked up as another person walked in and was surprised to see it was Randy. A smile came to her face at the sight of a familiar person as he made his way over to where she sat.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m hearing some amazing stories, and I see you managed to keep yourself in one piece,\u201d he said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are you doing down here?\u201d Meia asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cCame down as soon as I could, Kim\u2019s taking care of working with the Cimalian ships, damage, recovering escape pods, that type of thing. Any problems they\u2019ll contact me,\u201d he said to her.\u00a0 \u201cAnd I thought you could use a friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks,\u201d Meia said, leaning into him slightly as he placed a hand around her shoulder but allowed the doctor to continue his work.<\/p>\n

\u201cGeneral Porkins filled me in as much as possible,\u201d Randy said. \u201cHas our troops helping out.\u00a0 He has some ideas for working with the current police forces and such.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t allow the Enforcers to continue, they terrorize the people especially the lower classes,\u201d Meia said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll do fine,\u201d Randy said to her.<\/p>\n

The doctor came finished up placing some things up.<\/p>\n

\u201cDone?\u201d Meia asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly need the blood sample,\u201d he said to her which she frowned at.<\/p>\n

\u201cA blood sample will easily confirm your claim and ease your situation,\u201d he said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, good idea,\u201d Meia said, suddenly having some doubt about it all. What if the Emperor had lied, but then why would he do that.<\/p>\n

The doctor quickly took the sample and turned to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, this will be going to the lab under heavy guard,\u201d he told her. \u201cIn the meantime you are to rest, especially your left shoulder.\u00a0 You landed it pretty hard and it will take a bit more time to fully heal correctly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes doctor,\u201d Meia replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cA leader who actually listens, goddesses never cease to amaze me,\u201d the doctor said in a mocking tone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can still change,\u201d Meia replied narrowing her eyes at him.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then I\u2019ll have Doctor Leaver come down,\u201d Randy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, never mind,\u201d Meia replied not wanting him to come down and fuss over her. She noticed a man standing hesitantly at the door and waved him into the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, Empress, we found another body inside the throne room, a small child,\u201d theman said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cA girl?\u201d Meia asked seeing the shock in his face knowing what was coming.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, yes Empress, did you know her?\u201d he asked confused.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid I know her? That is a complex question.\u00a0 I think she knew me better than I knew her,\u201d Meia said to him.\u00a0 \u201cShe was a clone Emperor Henry had done of me at age five, and mixed in some of my uncle\u2019s attitude.\u00a0 She was to be his \u2018daughter\u2019 I believe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I recall hearing something about him having a daughter, it confused everyone,\u201d the man said back.<\/p>\n

\u201cIronic, I think she was killed in her own trap,\u201d Meia said looking around seeing Randy\u2019s confusion. \u201cBrandy, her name, wanted power, to be Empress and she would do anything to gain that power like my uncle did.\u00a0 During the fight with my uncle I noticed the bomb.\u00a0 I have a feeling when my uncle was blindly firing he shot her after she shot the guard.\u00a0 She probably expected us to fight and bomb to go off after she left leaving her Empress, not expecting to be unable to escape herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have a crazy family,\u201d Randy finally said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdd in the fact the Henry killed Prince Boris, along with Empress Teressa and Emperor Aaron I guess people are more willing to accept you,\u201d Terry said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow is the information being accepted?\u201d Meia asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom what we can tell so far, better than anticipated,\u201d Ewa said. \u201cPeople are nervous about what might happen next but I think once the blood sample is done things will calm down and they will accept you.\u00a0 We\u2019ve already begun to think of way to lessen punishments and begin working with all classes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat will take time,\u201d Randy said to her them.<\/p>\n

Meia nodded knowing she couldn\u2019t issue a decree and have things be smooth. She needed to figure out a way to slowly change things, make punishments fair for all.\u00a0 One thing she wanted to do was make it so people could do what they wanted, not forced into one thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, what\u2019s the next step?\u201d Randy asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we need to visit the alliance, as the Empress of the Cimlian Empire and start talks with them for peace,\u201d Meia said. \u201cAnd let the people know what my family had been doing so they don\u2019t\u2019 view the Alliance as the enemy anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCould be dangerous, undermine your power,\u201d Terry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I want to be honest with them,\u201d Meia said. \u201cI\u2019m not like my uncle, I don\u2019t need to hide behind false stories about the Alliance.\u00a0 I believed that foolishness as well until I learned the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

They stood there looking at each other before Randy finally broke the silence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell then, if you allow me the pleasure I\u2019d love to escort you to the Alliance,\u201d Randys aid.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t think of a better person,\u201d Meia said knowing she\u2019d feel better with someone she knew beside her.<\/p>\n

\u201cActually I also mean the Akai as an official escort,\u201d Randy said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes to both,\u201d Meia said knowing it would be nice, and feel like home to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou will go on board a Cimalian ship,\u2019 Ewa stated almost shocked that Meia would consider an Alliance ship. \u201cAfter all, it\u2019s an official visit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know, but for now we have a process to start,\u201d Meia said. \u201cGet an aide.\u201d<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Meia took a breath to relieve her own nervousness as she stood beside Randy in his official formal uniform escorting her into the room where she would meet several members of the Alliance, not her first time here.<\/p>\n

\u201cRelax, you\u2019ll do fine,\u201d Randy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m about to represent an entire Empire to the Alliance, the most I\u2019ve commanded is two dozen pilots,\u201d Meia hissed back at him.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust go out for drinks later, have John buy,\u201d Randy replied with a chuckle.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, never again,\u201d Meia replied not trusting John with water.<\/p>\n

\u201cI give you the Empress of the Cimalian Empire, Meia Cimal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The doors opened allowing Meia to step forward and into the spotlight as she walked forward into the room. She partly wished she was back on Pacifica and simply eating with Randy and his parents, anywhere but right here.<\/p>\n

Making her way into the room she took her seat which had been left open for her. Taking her seat she waited knowing this time she was equal to them all, what she said carried weight.<\/p>\n

\u201cWelcome Empress Meia,\u201d she heard President Able Sauer say to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you Mr. President,\u201d Meia replied after she had been seated. She understood what happened here would determine the future of both the Alliance and the Empire.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are aware that the Cimalian Empire has recently, invaded Alliance space now twice. We are looking for reassurances and concessions it won\u2019t happen again\u201d Able said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was there on both sides, as invader and defender of the Alliance,\u201d Meia said. \u201cWe\u2019ve all suffered, I lost friends and family in this senseless fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was told your parents were killed years before the invasion,\u201d Able said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrue, but the reasons behind the deaths, and the invasion, are the same, my uncle\u201d Meia replied to them. \u201cBut those are concerns of the Cimalian Empire.\u00a0 We are here to forge a new peace between our two empires, are we not?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, yes, yes, of course,\u201d Able said and Meia had a feeling the power play had not ended. She already felt a slight headache coming from the stress as Able continued.\u00a0 \u201cI wanted to make sure our concerns are met, we lost many lives in the war.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLives that might not have been lost had this government and the press had not lied to the public about what was going on, and blamed the military instead,\u201d Meia heard Randy said. \u201cI will say this, many in the military consider Empress Meia a friend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo our military would rebel against us?\u201d Able stated looking at Randy.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, she has earned our trust, we will defend the Alliance against all enemies, including those who worked against us in the invasion,\u201d Randy said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it doesn\u2019t bother you that she was part of the invasion?\u201d Able asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cActually, it\u2019s the way the government treated us during the invasion which concerned me more,\u201d Randy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what way is that?\u201d a senator asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIgnoring it,\u201d Senator Amy Barnes said speaking up. \u201cI was on Serria when they invaded, I was wounded, where were you?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is irrelevant,\u201d the senator replied back.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe to you, but not to me or the people on Serria,\u201d Amy replied. \u201cI think we\u2019re here to work a peace between our two civilizations, not antagonize each other.\u00a0 But I have no problem going to the press and telling people what went on in this meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meia noticed the attitude changed slightly as Amy spoke. She had a feeling that with Amy she had an ally in this group and it felt nice.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, perhaps we spoke a bit hastily,\u201d Able said, wiping his forehead. \u201cLet\u2019s see what we can work out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meia sat back waiting to hear what they might say next.<\/p>\n

Meia felt relieved to walk out of the room. Once the hostility ebbed away they were able to actually get down to business.\u00a0 Now she felt they might at least have a peace between the two empires as Ewa came up to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cCimalius reports everything is going all right, no riots as we feared there might be with some of the proclamations,\u201d Ewa said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood,\u201d Meia said running her hand though her hair. \u201cI think I plan to go aboard the Akagi when this is over and head to Pacifica.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you sure Empress?\u201d Ewa asked, seeing Meia frown at the term Empress.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, and its Meia.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly in private,\u201d Ewa replied, something all her aides did.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ll inform the Seydlitz.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re accepting my mother\u2019s invitation?\u201d Randy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow could I refuse,\u201d Meia said. \u201cDinner at a place your mother recommends, I\u2019d be a fool not to accept, and gong aboard the Akagi, well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor old time sakes?\u201d Randy asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, see Ben, John and the others,\u201d Meia said. \u201cThey are still my friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we can do that,\u201d Randy said. She felt his arm wind around her shoulders.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are going to talk,\u201d Meia said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet them,\u201d Randy said<\/p>\n

Meia relaxed a bit leaning into Randy as they made their way to the shuttle. She still had a lot of challenges ahead, but she felt the future of the Alliance and Empire looked bright for a change.<\/p>\n
