The Uneasy Alliance<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Part 31<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Hades walked to the communications center having been instructed to report on the status of the situation to the imperious Leader himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is Hades calling the Imperious Leader,\u201d Hades said, waiting for several microns before the Imperious Leader appeared on the screen.<\/p>\n

\u201cReport Hades,\u201d the Imperious Leader stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have run into an unexpected development around this planet,\u201d Hades said. \u201cAs you know there is a planet with many humans, they appear to be hooked up to a massive machine which defends itself.\u00a0 The other problem has become the Colonial fleet which appeared.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you have attacked them with two basestars?\u201d the Imperious Leader asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have lost contact with the other basestar which went to investigate the surface of the planet in more depth. A battlestar was observed exiting the planet\u2019s atmosphere, and it was decided it was the Galactica,\u201d Hades said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou attacked the Colonial fleet which was undefended?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was the plan, but a battlestar appeared from the fleet, and we have one behind us, we were outnumbered,\u201d Hades said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA second battlestar?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d Hades replied knowing what that meant. \u201cIt seems that somewhere the Colonials have added a second battlestar which we are unaware of.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis news is disturbing,\u201d the Imperious Leader stated. \u201cI\u2019m sending more basestars for observations.\u00a0 Do not attack unless you feel you have a tactical advantage.\u00a0 We need information about this second battlestar, and if it\u2019s the Pegasus and Commander Cain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hades understood the reasoning. \u201cBy your command.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cReport when you have more information.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that the communications went dead. Hades now had a new mission and turned to carry out the mission.<\/p>\n

Adama stepped out of the transport making his way to the building seeing several others walk out towards him, including Boomer and Starbuck, along with DE, who was hard to miss, a large machine ball. He noticed Diana slow slightly upon seeing it but he never stopped hoping to give her some strength to approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cStarbuck, Boomer, is everything all right?\u201d Adama asked getting the question out of the way and hoping nothing had happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast we heard the Cylon basestar had continued to move away,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIts unknown how far away its going to move,\u201d Boomer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTigh said if they attacked he\u2019d send a viper down,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we have limited contact at the moment,\u201d Adama said, not liking that bit. They needed a better way to communicate between the groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been working on that commander,\u201d Boomer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we\u2019ve come up with a solution which should work,\u201d DE said to them. \u201cHowever, it will not be as easy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh?\u201d Adama said, wondering what the solution was.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe plan to construct a tower of sorts which will rise above the clouds and into space,\u201d Doctor Wilker said. \u201cIt would also, aside from communications give us a way to transport personal to and from the surface.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adama had to agree, it was a very interesting idea, but, looking up, he wondered how it might even be possible to do.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, there is the problem of building it through the clouds, and even then we don\u2019t know if it will somehow send energy down and overload the machines here,\u201d Wilker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo solve the second dilemma its decided to build it further away from our city,\u201d DE stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are working together,\u201d Diana said having been quiet all this time and now everyone looked at her.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was advisable to do so,\u201d DE said. \u201cYou are not Colonial are you?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I\u2019m from Zion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen, I am to assume, the situation there has been stabilized?\u201d DE asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor now,\u201d Diana said. \u201cI have come up here to see the situation for myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps it might actually be beneficial to actually see even more,\u201d DE said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d Adama asked, wondering what the machine was thinking.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake her up to see what is going on for herself,\u201d DE replied.<\/p>\n

Adama gave that some thought and realized it was a perfect solution.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you can meet the Council of the Twelve,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like that, how long would it take?\u201d Diana asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot long, and I should return to the Galactica as well,\u201d Adama said. \u201cThere is one thing, we need a way to provide food for people, on a larger scale.\u00a0 One battlestar houses over a thousand people, and we need food for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

He watched Diana think about that for several seconds before turning towards Morpheus.<\/p>\n

\u201cTell Jack to come up and see how they can make a larger production of food, perhaps he and his group can come up with different types of food as well,\u201d Diana said to Morpheus.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are willing to help any way we can,\u201d DE said to them. \u201cWe can construct what you might need very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we can have him meet with some of our people, perhaps find something which grows easily,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that might be arranged,\u201d Diana said.<\/p>\n

Adama nodded leading her to the shuttle which would take them back to the Galactica as Morpheus turned and walked back to the Hammer to fly back to Zion.<\/p>\n

Diana watched from her seat as they flew through space. It had been a very strange experience indeed for her, something she never expected to experience at all.\u00a0 Flying through the atmosphere she had cringed at the way the shuttle had bounced around, and feared an electrical outage which never came.<\/p>\n

Now she had a view of several ships in space, something she could only recall from her time in the Matrix. It was a dream, something out of a sci-fi novel.\u00a0 Then they were headed toward a larger ship, with two hangars on each side.<\/p>\n

\u201cMadam, welcome to my home, the battlestar Galactica,\u201d Adama said to her as they flew closer and approached for the landing.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow long have you lived here?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor about five yahrens,\u201d Adama replied. \u201cIts roughly equivalent to a year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diana knew she had lived in Zion for almost all her life, but while they were enclosed, they remained where they were due to hiding, not running. If one wanted they could leave and go to the surface, and they could dig and expand the city which was done many times.\u00a0 They were not limited in their space.\u00a0 It seemed they both had encountered hardships.<\/p>\n

The shuttle landed on board the Galactica allowing her out. She glanced around noticing everyone doing their jobs, but a look among them which she recognized, a caged person locked up and barely surviving.\u00a0 She realized the people of Zion were the same, barely surviving.\u00a0 In order to grow they needed to leave Zion and made up her mind as Adama led her into the ship.<\/p>\n

They walked into a large meeting room and she recognized the type of men and women seated around the table. These were the leaders of this group.\u00a0 Where did commander Adama fit into the group?<\/p>\n

\u201cWelcome to the Council of Twelve,\u201d Adama said, \u201cThis is Diana from Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diana took a seat hearing a bunch of names which she never remembered but watched their reactions. Most looked on with interest, a few with hope and a few with a bit of distrust.\u00a0 Sitting down she waited to see how the meeting would go.<\/p>\n

\u201dI\u2019m sure we have a lot to discuss,\u201d one said, he had white hair and dressed in white as well and seemed to be one of the leaders of the group.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I know only bit, but it appears there is a lot we need to discuss and work together for,\u201d Diana said. \u201cYou are fleeing a group called the Cylons who apparently want all of humanity destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the simple version of events, yes,\u201d the man replied back to her. \u201cWe\u2019ve heard some things about your planet as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, well, until recently we were at war with our own machines which we created,\u201d Diana said, watching a few of the faces look on with interest. \u201cWe had recently entered into a peace with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPeace with machines?\u201d a brown haired man asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, it\u2019s an unusual agreement, and it seemed to be working until recently,\u201d Diana said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not peaceful anymore?\u201d a woman asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the arrival and attacks by the Cylons, from what I\u2019ve learned, it disrupted the peace which we had. It seemed the Cylons attacked the machines on the surface threatening their existence,\u201d Diana said.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s a strange thing, our war.\u00a0 Many of us really don\u2019t want to destroy them, but many wanted to find a way to co-exist as we tire of this war.\u201d<\/p>\n

She watched as they considered her words.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe too thought that, and were betrayed,\u201d one of the council members said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps, but I have gotten the feeling that their machines are unlike the Cylons,\u201d Adama said. \u201cI have spoken to them, including one called DE, who is highly intelligent, and almost human-like in his thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diana had only spoken to this DE once so had to rely on others for her opinion.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly by working together can we defeat this new threat of the Cylons,\u201d Diana said. \u201cAnd for that we need the machines, and how we treat them will determine our future with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

People around the table paused, a few talking to others in low voices before one finally looked up.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re words are true, it will be difficult for some of us as we lost many loved ones to the Cylons.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know,\u201d Diana said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, how can we help each other?\u201d Uri asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe machines are exceptional builders, and intelligent,\u201d Adama said. \u201cBut right now they cannot go above the clouds which encircle their planet.\u00a0 We can, and our ships and vessels can.\u00a0 They also have the ability to man any ships built, but we need a better supply of food.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat about one of the other planets?\u201d Diana asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think one of the other planets can be terraformed into supporting life,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd fuel?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are already working on that part, one of the moons around the gas giants appears to have an abundance of the fuel, and the captains of the tankers are already working on setting up operations,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt appears you have thought all this out,\u201d Diana said unaware so much had been done and decided.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was not something we could sit and wait on,\u201d Adama said. \u201cWith our enemies so close we must do all we can to ensure our survival.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo what do we do next?\u201d Diana asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a plan,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Starbuck watched as the shuttle descended back down through the clouds. Next to him stood Morpheus who had taken the last day to familiarize himself with what all had been going on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wonder what decisions were made,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf any were made at all,\u201d Starbuck stated, as the shuttle slowed down before landing at the landing pad and some people came forward to help out. The door opened allowing Diana to walk out along with Apollo as they headed over to where they stood.\u00a0 Diana stood in front of Morpheus for several seconds before finally speaking.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see things are better, and worse, than I had anticipated,\u201d she said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cInteresting perspective,\u201d Morpheus said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, we have allies we didn\u2019t a year ago to go with a new enemy,\u201d Diana said. \u201cFrom what I\u2019ve learned of them, they are worse than any machine that we know of.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said that as DE floated over to where they stood.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cylons have already tried to take over the Matrix, and they have attacked us several times,\u201d DE said to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, if they had passed us by we might not be standing here talking, and forming an alliance with each other,\u201d Diana said. \u201cPerhaps their interference is for the best, forcing us to come to terms with our own creations, and either we get along or we both die.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen perhaps it\u2019s time we start working together,\u201d Morpheus said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, we have a lot to work on, many problems still to solve,\u201d Diana said. \u201cAnd with the threat of the Cylons, the most pressing is getting a working communications from the surface to space up and running.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAh, that we\u2019ve been working on, and we think we have a solution,\u201d DE said. \u201cWe are going to construct a large tower, at the top will be a platform for communications.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAn interesting idea, will it be protected from the storms?\u201d Diana asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think that grounding it will help insulate it, but it will require human help to build,\u201d DE said.<\/p>\n

Starbuck listened in as the plan was outlined and was impressed. It might actually work in his mind, building it here, and then the last section lifted by a ship into place.<\/p>\n
