The Uneasy Alliance<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Part 29<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Tigh looked over the bridge crew, so far they had operated with effectively considering how quickly they had been tossed together. He was also impressed with how well the people who had come aboard knew the systems so well.\u00a0 Tom explained it was due to the fact they could have the information downloaded into them though the interface which could connect them to the Matrix.<\/p>\n

The whole Matrix thing confused him, but at the moment it seemed to help tremendously in training new recruits. Tom seemed to know a bit bout ships and was competent in his abilities in handling others.<\/p>\n

He looked up as Apollo and Starbuck walked onto the bridge. They had been ferrying the remaining people back up to the Enterprise but right now they looked concerned more than anything else.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s wrong?\u201d Tigh asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe heard from Niobe,\u201d Apollo stated, it was a name Tigh was familiar with and had to recall she was one of the ones on the planet they first met. \u201cIts Morpheus and Zion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened?\u201d Tigh asked, hoping a war down on the planet\u2019s surface had not broken out.<\/p>\n

\u201cNiobe said he went to the city but has yet to return,\u201d Apollo said. \u201cSomething is going on and the quicker it ends we might be able to get some more help on the surface of the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, something I\u2019ve been concerned with as well,\u201d Tigh said, knowing the people of Zion might be able to help grow crops or other foods. \u201cI\u2019ll contact Adama and see what he has to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

He turned looking at the communications officer and nodded as she hailed the Galactica. It only took a few microns before Omega\u2019s face appeared.<\/p>\n

\u201cColonel, what can I do for you?\u201d Omega asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI need to speak with the commander,\u201d Tigh said as Apollo and Starbuck stepped up beside him.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right,\u201d Omega said, as the screen switched and Adama\u2019s face appeared.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommander, we might have a problem on Earth,\u201d Tigh said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe machines?\u201d Adama asked his face showing concern about what might have happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, no, actually is the humans in Zion,\u201d Tigh said watching as Adama seemed to think about that before his face changed. \u201cTheir council, or should I say one member, Zack.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFather?\u201d Apollo asked wondering what was up.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith all these events I had forgotten about him,\u201d Adama said. \u201cI\u2019ll be heading over to the Enterprise, Tigh, head back take command of the Galactic and the fleet.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the Enterprise?\u201d Tigh asked, now confused.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can take command short term,\u201d Tom said speaking up from where he stood, close enough to hear by not be seen by Adama. \u201cI can maintain the patrols, get the ship up to operational status while you take care of this problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tigh noticed Adama was looking at him, waiting for his reply. \u201cHe\u2019ll do fine,\u201d Tigh finally said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll shuttle you over and bring the commander back,\u201d Apollo said, indicating him and Starbuck.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll inform you of everything when you arrive,\u201d Adama said to Tigh.<\/p>\n

The communications ended and Tigh hoped he would learn what was going on soon before leaving the ship in Tom\u2019s command heading to the hangar with Apollo and Starbuck.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Adama stepped out of the shuttle after it landed on the planet and leaving Tigh in charge of the fleet and two battlestars. They were keeping an eye on the basestar while getting the Enterprise up to full operational status.\u00a0 He looked around to see several people moving forward to enter the shuttle and service it.<\/p>\n

The landing pad and surrounding area had been built up and with a lot more humans around. It had a dedicated landing pad now, some buildings off to the side which looked more like something humans would be in and what appeared to be fuel supplies.\u00a0 He spotted Doctor Wilker heading towards him along with DE.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommander, welcome,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see things are moving along,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been busy getting things set up for a joint machine and human area,\u201d DE said surprising Adama. \u201cIf our alliance is to work we need places where we shall work together.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course,\u201d Adama said, a bit surprised at how well the groups appeared to be working together.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat brings you down here commander, we\u2019ve heard some things about what is going on, but communications is a bit slow,\u201d Wilker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, there is some plans for that to change,\u201d DE said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re working on a station, which we can use to have a direct contact between the surface and space,\u201dWilker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cInteresting,\u201d Adama said. It would prove to be very valuable in the future until they managed to clear the sky before getting back to his reason for being here.\u00a0 \u201cAny news from Morpheus or Zion?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, and that worries me,\u201d another voice said. He turned to see a woman approaching who looked familiar.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast I heard the council was still ignoring the fact of what was going on here,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen I need to go and confront him,\u201d Adama said seeing Apollo frown.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot sure that\u2019s going to be wise,\u201d the woman said even as Apollo asked confront who.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of your councilmen isn\u2019t who he says he is,\u201d Adama said seeing the confused look on their faces. \u201cHe\u2019s Count ilbis.\u201d<\/p>\n

The name had the desired effect on Apollo and Wilker but het woman seemed unfazed by the name.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you sure?\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, the Beings of White are also involved, they told Sheba to come get me, and they spoke to me as well when I returned to the Galactica. But with everything going on it wasn\u2019t until now that I have a chance to even confront him,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho is this Ilbis?\u201d DE asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cA powerful being who delights in destruction of civilizations.\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he is controlling the council?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt does appear so,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not going to face him alone,\u201d Apollo said giving an indication he would be coming with him.<\/p>\n

Adama found himself going down with Apollo, Boomer and Niobe, the woman he was talking to who he finally recalled her name. He looked over watching as she and Apollo drove down to the city.<\/p>\n

Stopping at the doors it took a few moments before anyone did anything, but two people walked through to greet them. Adama walked out as well, having the feeling he would be needed to get inside.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry, if you come in you\u2019ll be arrested,\u201d one man said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTurner, things are much greater than you realize,\u201d Niobe said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t Niobe, you know that, the Council is tightening its control,\u201d Turner said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd not everyone on the council is as they seem,\u201d Adama said causing Turner to pause and look back at him. Adama thought he recognized him from the last time he came.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cExactly what I said,\u201d Adama said. \u201cOne of your council members isn\u2019t human,\u201d Adama said.\u00a0 \u201cIn fact, he\u2019s someone we\u2019ve encountered before.\u201d<\/p>\n

He watched as Turner seemed to think about that. \u201cYou realize how far-fetched that sounds?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe goes by the name of Count Ilbis, and he\u2019s destroyed countless civilizations already,\u201d Apollo stated, \u201cand almost destroyed ours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adama waited a few seconds to see what might happen next. Turner seemed hesitant to do anything.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis councilman who we think is Count Ilbis, he will do anything and everything to remain in power when challenged. He is also highly charismatic, and almost too charming, easily wooing people with words that when you look at them, are empty,\u201d Apollo stated to him.<\/p>\n

Adama could see Turner shifting on his feet as if he knew the truth as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt might explain some things,\u201d Turner finally said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us talk to him,\u201d Adama said. \u201cIf he is who we think, we can help.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot everyone is on his side, but we haven\u2019t been able to do anything at all to challenge him,\u201d Turner said finally looking at Niobe. \u201cHe\u2019s gotten stronger since you left.\u00a0 People are afraid to challenge his supporters.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen let\u2019s change that,\u201d Adama said moving forward. \u201cBoomer, stay here and guard the transport.\u201d<\/p>\n

He heard boomer acknowledge the order before moving forward though the doors, past a stunned looking Turner and into the wide open cavern, which was surprisingly well lit up. He paused waiting for Turner to catch up to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cLead on to the council,\u201d Adama said, as Apollo and Niobe followed.<\/p>\n

A few others looked on stunned as they walked past, a few others did a double take and some had a hostile look to them. They had to be supporters of Ilbis before they walked into room which reminded him of a theater, with a table at the floor and several people already seated.\u00a0 They all looked up as they entered the room.<\/p>\n

Adama walked forward looking the people over. He noticed two women, and a couple of men, but one caught his eye from last time.\u00a0 He returned Adama\u2019s stare as they both seemed to understand what was going to happen as Adama cleared his mind for the upcoming fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was unaware that we ordered visitors to be brought to the council,\u201d the man said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe both know why I\u2019m here Ilbis,\u201d Adama said, seeing some of the others look on in surprise. A few others about eh room shuffled in their seats or on their feet but no one else moved.<\/p>\n

\u201cIlbis?\u201d the man replied. \u201cI am Zack.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what you say you\u2019re called, but we both know differently,\u201d Adama said. \u201cThe Beings of Light already know you\u2019re here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adama watched carefully for any signs of movement by people. So far things remained peaceful, and he had no idea how much longer that might last.\u00a0 Zack slightly flinched at the mention of the Beings of Light, as if he knew they were there, and watching him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou thought that electrical cloud might mask your presence?\u201d Adama said moving forward slightly to the center of the room watching as everyone seemed to focus on their conversation, including some of the other councilmembers. He might be able to gain some allies.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are deluded,\u201d Zack replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, you spread your poison, saying you\u2019ll save them when it\u2019s your intention to destroy them all along,\u201d Apollo stated stepping forward as well. \u201cIt\u2019s all you know how to do, how many countless people have you killed?\u201d<\/p>\n

Adama watched as the man\u2019s face flickered slightly as anger took over.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no idea what you\u2019re talking about, these people are mine,\u201d Zack said.<\/p>\n

The phrase only confirmed that this man, Zack, was indeed Count Ilbis.<\/p>\n

\u201cYours?\u201d Adama replied back as Ilbis froze. Both seemed to realize the importance of what was spoken.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey look towards me for guidance, so any leader will think of the people following them as theirs, they are my responsibility, you understand that weight of leadership,\u201d Zack, or Ilbis said. Adama had the feeling he was trying to backtrack on what he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, but you clearly said they are mine,\u201d Adama said seeing a few others around him listening in even closer.<\/p>\n

Looking around he spotted several different groups and looked back at Apollo who had already spotted the different groups. He now wished he more than just Apollo with him at the moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow commander, are trying to make things difficult?\u201d Ilbis asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, only getting at the truth,\u201d Adama relied back to him. \u201cI\u2019ve seen what you can do, gathering those around you to blindly follow you, silencing anyone who might challenge you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re exaggerating commander,\u201d Ilbis replied back to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am, then why do you not wish for the people of Zion to defend themselves, or did you promise to protect them, as you have countless others,\u201d Adama replied back to him.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere appeared very tense and now everyone was watching the discussion doing on between the two of them. Adama knew if they wanted Zion on their side he had to win this battle.<\/p>\n

Instead of any reply Ilbis made a motion to several others causing Adama to back up slightly as several people came forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis discussion is over, you will be placed in jail and held,\u201d Ilbis replied.<\/p>\n

Even as he said this, about a dozen people came forward, Apollo drew his own weapon and things rapidly spiraled out of control. Even as he tried to think of a way out of this he heard more weapons armed and pointed in their direction.<\/p>\n
