{"id":1814,"date":"2017-01-14T07:15:49","date_gmt":"2017-01-14T13:15:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ajscifistories.com\/?p=1814"},"modified":"2017-01-18T07:28:10","modified_gmt":"2017-01-18T13:28:10","slug":"the-uneasy-alliance-part-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/ajscifistories.com\/?p=1814","title":{"rendered":"The Uneasy Alliance &#8211; Part 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The Uneasy Alliance<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">by AJ Marks<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Part 26<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHelm, set course to exit the atmosphere,\u201d Apollo heard Tigh say and watched the officer put in the orders and execute.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the artificial gravity he felt the difference as the ship pitched up heading up towards the clouds. The massive ship rocked slightly as it passed through the storms and everyone held their breath hoping it wouldn\u2019t short anything out.<\/p>\n<p>One computer burnt out, but the major systems remained operational and suddenly it was smooth again and he felt the gravity smooth out and realized the ship was passing into orbit. An interesting sensation as he looked down at the scanners to see if anything was out there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScanners showing nothing,\u201d Apollo said, relieved to not see a basestar waiting for them.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s some good news,\u201d Tigh said then getting on the internal communications. \u201cI wish to thank everyone for their hard work in the battle which wasn\u2019t expected.\u00a0 All sector commander are to inform what positions are open and needed to complete the ship\u2019s compliment.\u00a0 Also any damage occurred during the battle and what needs to be finished.\u00a0 Report it in as quickly as possible.\u00a0 That is all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apollo looked on as Tigh seemed to be handling the command rather well before sitting down in the command chair and bouncing slightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBit more comfortable than the Galactica\u2019s,\u201d he said before turning serious. \u201cContact the Galactica.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Adama felt a bit different considering everything. He lost his second in command, Tigh and now was headed to the Council who had summoned him.\u00a0 Walking in he quietly sat down waiting to hear what they wanted to say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommander, do you think it\u2019s wise to accept help from these machines?\u201d Arie, one of the council member asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes I do,\u201d Adama replied with no hesitation. \u201cIf we do nothing then we\u2019ve lost a valuable ally, and one which could turn the tide against the Cylons at long last.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSounds like we\u2019re taking a risk,\u201d Uri said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is risk in everything we do councilman,\u201d Adama replied back to him. \u201cEven to do nothing is a risk, and one we might be able to afford to take.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He watched them all think about that when Athena walked into the room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSorry to interrupt, but Colonel Tigh is on the communicator,\u201d she said to him.<\/p>\n<p>Adama thought about heading up to the bridge to take it, but knew they could use the room here on occasion. There hadn\u2019t been a reason to use the room\u2019s communications in a long time but today he could.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPut it though in here,\u201d Adama said watching as she seemed to blink in confusion then carried out the order. He watched as she went to work and in seconds Tigh\u2019s face appeared on the screen, and seemed a bit shocked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommander,\u201d Tigh said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTigh, what\u2019s the situation?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAh, well we encountered a basestar in the planet\u2019s atmosphere,\u201d Tigh said, not something Adama wanted to hear but waited to hear the rest. \u201cThe Enterprise was almost operational and with help from the machines beat the basestar back.\u00a0 We\u2019re currently in orbit around the planet.\u00a0 The Enterprise suffered some damage but we can repair it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnterprise?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the name of the new battlestar,\u201d Tigh said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see,\u201d Adama said. \u201cThe fleet is on the way, we should arrive there in a few days.\u00a0 I assume the tanker made down to the surface all right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, it was bumpy, but we made it,\u201d Tight said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd how operational is the Enterprise?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking on getting her up to full strength,\u201d Tigh said. \u201cStill missing a few personal, but working with the machines on that.\u00a0 They have people out and are working on getting them ready to work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see,\u201d Adama said, realizing that things were going faster than he expected. All he had to do next was get things going.\u00a0 He still had a lot of problem, like food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to explore around the system, work on getting a mining operation going as well,\u201d Tigh said. \u201cOne of the moons had an indication tylium deposits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeep me informed, and keep an eye out for a planet we can start to grow food on,\u201d Adama stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll right,\u201d Tigh said as the communications ended.<\/p>\n<p>Adama sat back down and went over everything he had learned. Things had progressed quickly on the battlestar, faster than he had expected and it already had been in combat.\u00a0 His people did better than expected for a small crew.\u00a0 He would have to work on the next phase of increasing the defenses around the system.\u00a0 They needed a secure area to begin the counter attack against the Cylons.\u00a0 He also still had to confront Ilbis.<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Hades watched as the centurion walked into the command room waiting orders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpeak centurion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy your command,\u201d the centurion said. \u201cLong range scanners have indicated a battlestar has appeared from the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA battlestar? The Galactica?\u201d Hades asked, now unsure of what to do next.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is unknown,\u201d the centurion replied. \u201cIf it is the Galactica our scanners never saw it approach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hades did not like the fact a battlestar had managed to sneak past him. However he now knew if he could find the fleet it would be defenseless to any attack he did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the human fleet?\u201d Hades asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatrols have been sent out, they have yet to return,\u201d the centurion said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInform me the moment they have found something, and keep an eye on the battlestar. If it moves away or disappears I am to be notified immediately.\u201d Hades said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy your command,\u201d the centurion said turning and leaving the room.<\/p>\n<p>Hades had a feeling he could smash the fleet then turn around and destroy the Galactica and whatever was left on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Morpheus looked on at the sight before him. He stood on the bridge of a warship, built for Earth to fight a new threat against humanity called the Cylons.\u00a0 He never figured to be in such a position before, instead he felt he would spend his days back in Zion growing old and wishing the war between humanity and the machines would never break out again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSystem report?\u201d Tigh ordered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll systems are reporting green,\u201d someone else replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost impressive,\u201d Morpheus said, looking out the window and spotting the sun coming into view. Something he usually only saw in the Matrix.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not fully operational yet,\u201d Tigh said. \u201cWe need to send down a report to the machines on what personal we need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think I can volunteer for that mission,\u201d Morpheus stated, wanting to feel useful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood, and hopefully we can start shuttling them up as well,\u201d Tigh said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll need a ride down, don\u2019t have the ability yet to fly your shuttles,\u201d Morpheus said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can give him a ride down,\u201d Apollo said. \u201cStarbuck and I can go back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHead on down,\u201d Tigh said motioning for them to head on down as they started off towards the hangar of the Enterprise.<\/p>\n<p>Morpheus gave some thought to some other things. He knew one thing he had to do was head back to Zion once more and confront the council over what was going on.\u00a0 Some were so stubborn it almost made him wonder if they had some ulterior motive in their mind.\u00a0 Were they still fighting the war they claimed he was?<\/p>\n<p>He focused on what Apollo and Starbuck were talking about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing to take several trips to get everyone up here,\u201d Starbuck was saying to Apollo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, but we\u2019ll get it done, and Wilker has some plans for more fuel,\u201d Apollo replied. Morpheus listened in knowing what he would have to do upon getting back, something he did not want to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI assume you can handle that?\u201d Morpheus asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, why?\u201d Starbuck asked. \u201cYou\u2019re not going to help?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need to go back to Zion, inform them of the reality,\u201d Morpheus said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, they weren\u2019t too welcoming,\u201d Apollo stated. \u201cAny idea why?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, and that\u2019s what I need to figure out,\u201d Morpheus said wishing he had an answer to this question or what to say that might open the Council\u2019s eyes to the danger which was in front of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe we should go along again,\u201d Starbuck said, \u201cgive you back-up for your story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast time they were not welcoming,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n<p>Morpheus gave it some thought but could not come up with a way. \u201cI almost think the fewer people involved the better it would be,\u201d Morpheus finally said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you sure?\u201d Apollo said, as they reached the hangar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, maybe if there were more, but we can\u2019t risk any further problems,\u201d Morpheus said. \u201cOur manpower is still small.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you think so,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n<p>They entered the shuttle and he watched the two pilots go over the control with ease before taking off.<\/p>\n<p>He looked out at space, such a different experience as they reached the atmosphere of Earth and headed through the electrical storms which bounced the shuttle around a bit but remained controllable before exiting on the planet and made their way to the machine city.<\/p>\n<p>There was a large landing area now and the shuttle landed on the planet\u2019s surface. He and the others existed to several people standing around waiting for them.\u00a0 He spotted Niobe and made his way over.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s this?\u2019 he asked her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first batch of crewmembers,\u201d she replied to him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTigh will be happy to see them,\u201d Morpheus said, leading her away. \u201cHave you heard from Zion?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat worries me,\u201d Morpheus said, wondering what they might have planned even as DE and Doctor Wilker made their way over.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI take it these are the first crewmembers?\u201d Apollo stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYep,\u201d Wilker replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are trained and ready to go, they also know what is going on,\u201d DE said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, that should make things easier,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll take some up on the shuttle, any other trained pilots?\u201d Apollo asked the group, watching a few raised their hands. \u201cGood, you\u2019re on the next shuttle up.\u00a0 What about bridge crew, controllers, scanners?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A few more raised their hands, one stepped forward, looking slightly older.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was a captain of a carrier,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOld Earth warship which had planes,\u201d Morpheus said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay, come on, Commander Tigh will probably want to talk to you,\u201d Apollo stated.<\/p>\n<p>Morpheus watched as people lined up to head on back up to the Enterprise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, what\u2019s up?\u201d Niobe asked him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going back to Zion,\u201d Morpheus said to them, watching as they looked at him with some concern.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you sure that\u2019s wise?\u201d Niobe asked, unsure if he should do this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, we need to figure out where they stand, now before things get even more intense,\u201d Morpheus said. \u201cAnd I\u2019d like to figure out why they think they can wait to see who wins, then attack them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, the humans of Zion are still up to their old tricks,\u201d DE said. \u201cIt\u2019s not surprising to my calculations.\u00a0 We calculated a small chance of any help from the people of Zion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot all of us think that way,\u201d Morpheus said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I was unaware that those who actually fought us inside the Matrix would be so willing to help,\u201d DE said to him. \u201cAn unexpected miscalculation on our part.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morpheus realized that the machines made mistakes as well, something he had learned during the war. They were not infallible, but they did everything based on percentages unlike humans.\u00a0 Emotions swayed their responses and then the entire thing within the Matrix as well.\u00a0 He learned that Agent Smith had rebelled against his creators, a bit like the machines had against the humans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps there is much we can both learn from each other,\u201d Morpheus said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, it seems so. We thought we knew you very well, it seems we are still learning,\u201d DE replied back to him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, its that same part which you\u2019re still learning which is causing the problems,\u201d Morpheus said honestly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you taking anyone else?\u201d Niobe asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I can\u2019t risk anyone else, it wouldn\u2019t be wise,\u201d Morpheus said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStay safe,\u201d she said to him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will,\u201d Morpheus said, giving her a hug and headed to a transport to head down and hopefully get some real answers for a change.<\/p>\n<p>End part 26<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ajscifistories.com\/?p=1816\">Continued in part 27<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Uneasy Alliance by AJ Marks Part 26 \u201cHelm, set course to exit the atmosphere,\u201d Apollo heard Tigh say and watched the officer put in the orders and execute.
