Part 4<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Adama looked at the council knowing they were not going to give up. He had not arrived at this conclusion easily knowing it would affect everyone in the fleet beyond anything they had known.\u00a0 But he also had to trust what he had been told, the humans in the other galaxy were probably a safer choice than their chances against the Cylons.\u00a0 He also would trust in his people\u2019s ability to adapt and rebuild a new civilization.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is nothing you can do?\u201d Uri asked Mitchell.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry, any of our ships would take several weeks in hyperspace to arrive here, by then I think this battle will be over,\u201d Mitchell replied back to Uri.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we\u2019re to just go hopping across the galaxy on a whim?\u201d Uri asked. \u201cFor all we know this group could be wanting us as slaves.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not like that,\u201d Mitchell replied back hotly.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we do this, we\u2019ll need a lot of support,\u201d another council member said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how much support we can give, my world is, unusual in my galaxy,\u201d Mitchell replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn what way?\u201d Uri asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, well, most of our people don\u2019t know about the stargate, they don\u2019t even know we\u2019ve been exploring the universe now for ten years, fought several wars, and have become a power in our galaxy,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cThey don\u2019t know we\u2019ve even founded some bases on other worlds including a small star fleet.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCombining our two technologies could be tremendous to everyone,\u201d Adama said. \u00a0\u201cThe Beings of Light led us here to find the stargate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you know this how?\u201d Uri asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey told us,\u201d Adama said. \u201cOne appeared while we were talking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adama waited for the expected outburst and a few asking why this person didn\u2019t show up to them. Adama had no answer for that question only that it happened.\u00a0 He really was out of ideas.\u00a0 He also knew to stay meant certain death.\u00a0 A few might survive but they would be scattered now, and they would be fleeing the rest of their lives.\u00a0 Ha had a feeling this way would actually save them, or so he hoped.\u00a0 Abandoning everything was a huge risk and one he was not sure would even work.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we are to go, we must move now, we cannot wait until we come under attack,\u201d Adama said to them. \u201cTell the people to carry as much as possible, anything they can take for the trip.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou really think this is the best path?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I see no other path which doesn\u2019t involve a huge sacrifice by the warriors in a futile effort to save us all. Remember, once the warriors are gone, there will not be anything to stop the Cylons from the fleet.\u00a0 If we stay you are asking our warriors to sacrifice themselves for a slim hope of survival,\u201d Adama said to them hoping to make them understand the consequences of their actions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe shall vote on it,\u201d Uri finally said. \u201cAye will be in favor of the commander\u2019s plan, nay is we will think of something else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adama waited patiently as everyone voted, he cast his own vote for his plan and waited.<\/p>\n

\u201cIts official, the ayes have it, passed seven to five,\u201d Uri said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019ll excuse me, I have a lot of work to do,\u201d Adama said, heading off and back towards the bridge.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought our politics was screwed up,\u201d Mitchell said as they walked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are proud people, and fear change,\u201d Adama said. \u201cAnd heading across the galaxy while giving up what you have is a big risk for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

They reached the bridge where everyone seemed to be waiting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe begin the evacuations,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow are we going to do this?\u201d Tigh asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gate can remain open for thirty-eight minutes but it\u2019s probably more like thirty minutes, you\u2019ll need a way to get the people down on the planet and organized,\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll land the ships close to the buildings, there are clearings all around,\u201d Apollo said. \u201cWe could probably land four ships at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re ships can do that?\u201d Sam said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll but the Galactica,\u201d Apollo said. \u201cMost ships are rigged for such landings.\u00a0 It won\u2019t be comfortable but the ships can do it one last time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crew of the Galactica will have to shuttle off, and the warriors can use their vipers while maintain patrols on where the Cylons are,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be using a lot of fuel for this,\u201d Tigh said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake it from the ships after they lift off again and are empty,\u201d Adama said. \u201cSend the fastest four ships to begin the evacuation.\u201d<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Daniel watched as things got crowded. Much more than he expected as he and Teal\u2019c tried to get everyone in position as the gate started up indicating an incoming wormhole.\u00a0 He and Teal\u2019c immediately moved into a defensive position along with a few warriors who had come down to help with crowd control.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not expecting anyone Daniel Jackson,\u201d Teal\u2019c said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d Daniel said as the connection was established.<\/p>\n

\u201cColonel Mitchell,\u201d he heard Landry\u2019s voice say on the radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cGeneral, Mitchell is still on board the Galactica,\u201d Daniel replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, wanted to give you an address, PQ-139, sending the address now,\u201d Landry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat happened to PX-351?\u201d Daniel asked.<\/p>\n

\u201c139 has more room,\u201d Landry said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right,\u201d Daniel said, looking down and seeing the address. \u201cWe\u2019ve received it, we\u2019ll send the first group though shortly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, they are already waiting,\u201d Landry said. \u201cI suggest sending Teal\u2019c through first.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was already planning on going first general,\u201d Teal\u2019c replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, good luck,\u201d Landry said, as the gate closed down.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I can have your attention,\u201d Daniel yelled out hoping to get everyone to calm down. Everyone was holding something and looking anxious but after a few more shouts for calm he finally had the people in the room\u2019s attention.\u00a0 \u201cNow, when the gate activates follow Teal\u2019c though the gate as calmly and quickly as possible to get as many people though as possible.\u00a0 People on the other side will be waiting to help you out.\u00a0 Upon arrival move away from the gate to keep it clear, a lot of people have to move through.\u00a0 Think of it as a door, if you block the exit it will only make things worse.\u201d<\/p>\n

He looked over at Teal\u2019c who nodded he was ready and headed to the control and dialed up the address. The gate went through its activation sequence and with a whoosh connected.\u00a0 Teal\u2019c wasted no time heading though the gate and followed closely by the first person as the line started moving rather quickly.<\/p>\n

The guards kept things calm as Daniel waited for Teal\u2019c.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have arrived, things are moving quite well,\u201d Teal\u2019c said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a relief,\u201d Daniel replied. \u201cKeep me informed, if things get backed up we\u2019ll stop sending people.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe area around the stargate is quite open,\u201d Teal\u2019c replied. \u201cAnd the Jaffa are prepared already.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel felt some relief, but knew this was only the beginning.<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

Apollo stood on the bridge watching as people received their number for the shuttles to leave the Galactica. The bridge crew would be one of the last groups, needed for flight control in and out of the ship and coordinating the movement of the fleet.<\/p>\n

He heard already of a few mess-ups, which were expected and the call came from the planet\u2019s surface that the first group had successfully gone through the gate. The four ships were already making room for the next four while shuttles abandoned the ships sending them away from the planet and path the fleet needed to take.\u00a0 Fuel was already being transferred to the tankers to redistribute to other ships.<\/p>\n

\u201cGalactica, this is Jolly,\u201d he heard over the intercom.<\/p>\n

\u201cJolly, what\u2019s wrong,\u201d Apollo asked knowing from his friend\u2019s voice something happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m over here at the Moving Box, we have a problem,\u201d Jolly said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat type of problem?\u201d Apollo asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are not going,\u201d Jolly said.<\/p>\n

Apollo looked over at Tigh who heard the conversation, neither seemed surprised.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommander, problems with the Moving Box,\u201d Tigh said.<\/p>\n

Adama walked over and keyed the communications waiting a second for the Moving Box captain to appear.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry commander, I won\u2019t obey this order, you\u2019ve done well but this is suicide to give up everything we\u2019ve known,\u201d the captain said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou realize the situation?\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, and we\u2019re staying,\u201d the captain said. \u201cYou can\u2019t make us go through that thing to someplace unknown.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cColonel, inform the next ship in the group to take the Moving Box\u2019s place,\u201d Adama said to Tigh before turning his attention back to the communicator. \u201cThe warriors will not be here to protect you this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re heading away now,\u201d the captain said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir, the ship is moving away from the fleet.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny other ships?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThree others, including one of the Argo ships,\u201d Athena said concerned.<\/p>\n

Adama felt failure over the decision. People were heading to their deaths willingly.<\/p>\n

\u201cSee if we can speed up our process,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIncoming communications,\u201d Rigel said.<\/p>\n

Adama waited as it was put on the screen and he noticed one of the council members.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry commander, but I can\u2019t allow you to make such a mistake,\u201d he said. \u201cI would have preferred to keep the fleet together, but this was preferable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aama sighed at the implications of what the councilman said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re leading them to their deaths,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt least we will be honorable and not be subservient in another galaxy,\u201d the councilmen said ending the communications.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe really has no idea,\u201d Mitchell said from where he stood.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe would have had problems had we found Earth here in this galaxy. He was one who always enjoyed power,\u201d Adama said. Seeing Uri walk onto the bridge.<\/p>\n

\u201cI take it you know of what some of the council members are doing?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cLeaving the fleet yes, one just called me,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI disagreed Adama, I don\u2019t agree with your path, but given the situation, I could come up with nothing either,\u201d Urii said. \u201cI tried to dissuade them, but nothing I said meant anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI doubt anything you say would have worked, but I\u2019m glad you\u2019re going. We\u2019ll need you,\u201d Adama said seeing surprise on Uri\u2019s face.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommander, I think that\u2019s the nicest thing you\u2019ve said to me in a while,\u201d Uri said causing Adama to laugh.<\/p>\n

\u201cSecond group has arrived,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow many have been evacuated?\u201d Uri asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cFour ships, working on the next four,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow many are defecting?\u201d Uri asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI count fifteen,\u201d Athena said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we still have about two hundred left,\u201d Uri said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI only hope we have time,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, you\u2019re preparing your people well, Daniel said the first group went through without a problem, that will speed things up,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can only hope things go as smoothly,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFather, the area around the building is large, we could land more get one group prepared while another is going through,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo it,\u201d Adama said. \u201cAnything to speed things up.\u00a0 We don\u2019t know how quickly the Cylons are moving.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe might also want to establish a defensive perimeter around the building,\u201d Mitchell said. \u201cThey might be seeing us heading down there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cApollo, send Starbuck down to establish it,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight,\u201d Apollo said making his way off the bridge to track down his friend. He didn\u2019t think the Cylons would, but anything could happen if they attacked.\u00a0 They might also be seeing what they were doing and be changing their plans for such an attack.\u00a0 Of course they might also be confused and trying to evaluate what they were doing.<\/p>\n

He finally found Starbuck with Doctor Wilker who was talking with Samantha Carter.<\/p>\n

\u201cStarbuck,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAdama wants you to take a group of warriors and set up a defensive perimeter around the building in case the Cylons attack there on the ground,\u201d Apollo said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI take it you will be on the Galactica?\u201d Starbuck asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, helping coordinate the effort and keeping track of the warriors,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll right, I\u2019ll take some of blue squad, and fly down in the vipers,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood,\u201d Apollo said as they walked out. \u201cWhat\u2019s going on in there?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s helping him take as much stuff as possible with him,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAh,\u201d Apollo replied, knowing there was a lot of stuff they would be leaving behind. \u201cNot everyone is going.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not thinking of staying?\u201d Starbuck said. \u201cFrom what I\u2019ve heard staying is suicide.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I happen to agree with the commander, just,\u201d Apollo looked around. \u201cIts been home.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d Starbuck replied wistfully as well. \u201cBut, I think it\u2019ll be a new beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope so,\u201d Apollo said as they split, Starbuck headed to the hangar and him back to the bridge. He hoped time would allow him to see his friend again.<\/p>\n
