Part 24<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Buck looked up at the ringing of the door, not expecting anyone at all. Activating the monitor he was only slightly surprised to see Wilma standing there.\u00a0 Opening the door he allowed her in.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, what do I owe this surprise?\u201d Buck asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThought you\u2019d might like to know what Doctor Theopolis\u2019 plan was,\u201d Wilma said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe told you?\u201d Buck asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s in the process of being put into place,\u201d Wilma replied. \u201cIt seems his plan was to develop a galaxy wide defense force.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cInteresting, will the others go with it?\u201d Buck asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, the only thing in it is a defense pact between everyone that should the aliens attack one, the others will help out,\u201d Wilma said. \u201cIt might prevent them from attacking another race.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut only if they know about the treaty,\u201d Buck said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have reason to believe they have spies all over the place, they will know. The other part of the treaty would be to help discover more about who they are, and why they are targeting us,\u201d Wilma said to him.\u00a0 \u201cSo far all we have is a theory on why they want to attack us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOr they have some sense of destiny to rule over everyone else,\u201d Buck aid.<\/p>\n

\u201cWouldn\u2019t be the first one,\u201d Wilma replied a bit to Buck\u2019s surprise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are others?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, a couple,\u201d Wilma said. \u201cWe have treaties against them as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow many treaties does the Earth have?\u201d Buck asked not recalling any of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are currently part of seven defense treaties,\u201d Wilma replied. \u201cAnd have been a part of two wars, though most of the space wars have been against the Draconian Empire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Buck thought about that for several seconds, but still had a hard time with getting the information to that other race to let them know Earth and the others had a defensive treaty against them.<\/p>\n

\u201cGain any information from their ship?\u201d Buck asked, sitting down as did Wilma.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are making headway, the navigation system has been found, they are sharing the data with us and everyone is working on decoding it,\u201d Wilma said to him.<\/p>\n

Buck leaned back in his chair as the enormity of everything which happened crashed down over him again. It was almost too much to even comprehend if he gave it too much thought.\u00a0 He never expected to be so far into the future, nor did he ever expect to visit so many different planets. Now he had been on several planets, a few more to go due to some wanting to talk to him.\u00a0 They would ask the questions of how did it feel surviving a Thu\u2019Lue hyperdrive engine when no one else had.<\/p>\n

Some would ask him about how he was adapting to the changes in society which took place over four hundred years. However most aliens were not up with human culture due to the lack of interaction between races.\u00a0 Perhaps that needed to change?<\/p>\n

\u201cTo think, we wouldn\u2019t know so much without you,\u201d Wilma said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you mean, I didn\u2019t do anything,\u201d Buck answered.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot true if you listen to Doctor Theopolis. He credits you as an important piece to uncovering all of this.\u00a0 It was you who had contact with so many races, you were in the right spot to be kidnapped, even though it was admitted as a mistake by the rebels, which led us to the nature of the truth behind the invaders,\u201d Wilma said to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, but its not that important,\u201d Buck said protesting.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, you were the one who noticed the person from the Draconian empire, which linked them to the rebels, which led us to uncovering the ring of spies, and on that computer this alien race. On top of that you helped defend Earth from two attacks, one from the Draconians and the other from the aliens,\u201d Wilma said to him arguing against his protests.<\/p>\n

He would have said more but the doorbell rang again. Frowning he flipped on the monitor, shocked to see Ardala standing there.<\/p>\n

\u201cExpecting her?\u201d Wilma asked, arching an eyebrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, today was to be a quiet, off day,\u201d Buck said, walking over to open the door allowing Ardala in.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, this is where you live,\u201d Ardala said waltzing in before Buck could say anything. She looked around noticing Wilma but said nothing.\u00a0 \u201cThe d\u00e9cor is a bit drab.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUm, Princess Ardala, what are you doing here?\u201d Buck asked, looking back and forth between the two women.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I came to give you some great news,\u201d she said. We\u2019ve uncovered who was behind the attack on Earth.\u00a0 It was Harold, but that news is being kept a close secret by my father, though he will publically admit that I was framed, not like anyone thought I was behind it.\u00a0 I figure father caught someone working for my brother, he\u2019ll probably be the one who will be punished, and my dear brother will get a private scolding.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I guess that\u2019s good news,\u201d Buck said unsure about that.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course it is, my honor is clean again,\u201d she said to him. \u201cDespite what people think,\u201d she looked over at Wilma, \u201cI keep my promises.\u00a0 I know my reputation, and to keep it like that I have to remain honest.\u00a0 To do that I\u2019ll do anything in my power.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once again Buck was reminded of her father.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs the Draconian Empire participating in the treaty?\u201d Wilma asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cFather is thinking it over, but he has agreed to share information about that alien group, and he\u2019ll be looking into it to make sure Harold wasn\u2019t involved with them. I fear if he was father will strip him of all duties to the throne, I hope not it would mean my duties would increase,\u201d Ardala said.<\/p>\n

Buck had no idea if Harold was, or was not, involved. Even as he pondered what to say next there was another knock on his door.\u00a0 Looking down at the monitor he saw Twiki standing there with Theopolis around his next.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps I should have gone to the meeting,\u201d Buck joked allowing Twiki into the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cBiggy biggy, hiya Buck,\u201d Twiki said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwiki, Doctor Theopolis, what brings you two over to my place?\u201d Buck asked, and was about to close the door when another person appeared. \u201cChancellor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wilma stood as everyone walked in and Buck felt very uncomfortable with everyone in his apartment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI apologize for just dropping by captain, but there was something we wanted to discuss with you and I didn\u2019t want to do it over the communicator,\u201d the Chancellor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay,\u201d Buck replied wondering what he had to say. There was nothing he could think of which would require the Chancellor to visit personally.<\/p>\n

\u201cI realize you are not a citizen of the NAA, but we think that can actually work to our advantage, and President Chin agrees with me on this,\u201d the Chancellor said and Buck had to recall that Chin was the President of the UEA. \u201cWe would like for you to be the official ambassador of Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s quite a position, what would be my duties?\u201d Buck asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny official visits to other races, and beyond that we\u2019ll work on it. We don\u2019t really know what the duties will be just yet, but we do need someone who will be able to speak for all of us, recent events have shown us that,\u201d the Chancellor said.\u00a0 \u201cNormally we work with the UEA, but we\u2019ve learned there are still differences between us, and we think you can help bridge that divide.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can try, no promises on it actually working,\u201d Buck replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to working with you,\u201d Ardala said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe won\u2019t be working alone,\u201d Wilma quickly said as the two glared at each other for several seconds.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s all we can ask for Captain Rogers, and if you need any help I am at your call,\u201d Theopolis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, looks like I\u2019ve got a job, does it include pay?\u201d Buck asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, the nations of the Earth are all contributing to your pay,\u201d the Chancellor said. \u201cWe\u2019ll be able to get you some better quarters, preferably in the government district, and better security.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo I still get to fly a Thunderfighter?\u201d Buck asked, it was a lot of fun flying the fighter.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs such yes, it would be bad if our ambassador was killed in a shuttle and unable to defend himself,\u201d Theopolis said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen I guess I\u2019ll accept,\u201d Buck said.<\/p>\n

\u201cExcellent, your fist mission will be to head out to the new members of the Treaty against the voice attackers,\u201d the Chancellor said. \u201cI\u2019ll set everything up and contact you later.\u201d<\/p>\n

With that the Chancellor and Twiki left the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I have to be off as well, my work is never done,\u201d Ardala said, sweeping off out of the apartment but not before giving Buck a quick kiss and heading out leaving just him and Wilma.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, you got a promotion,\u201d Wilma said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, never expected that,\u201d Buck replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s go celebrate, I know a good place to eat, have you had lunch yet?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, and sounds like a good idea,\u201d Buck said making sure his hair was combed before heading out the door with her.<\/p>\n

So much to discover in the universe and he had a job to do it with. He wondered what other adventures awaited him.<\/p>\n
