Such strong emotions came from the woman it made her wonder if she said something wrong.\u00a0 The silence stretched out for several seconds before anyone said anything.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdama, that the commander,\u201d Rigel finally stated. \u201cI think you need to talk to Commander Tigh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crystal had a feeling she was about to be involved in something she had no idea about. It felt so strange, yet also so familiar, a position she understood.\u00a0 The figures in power were people she understood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome on,\u201d Rigel said, forcing Crystal to go with her.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>She tried to keep up with where they were going, but got completely lost in the maze of tunnels. Finally they arrived at a door, which opened on its own.\u00a0 They walked in and she spotted the same man, dressed in blue, she had seen earlier when arriving on board the battlestar.\u00a0 Also in the room were Aaron, Jason, Starbuck, Boomer and Apollo.\u00a0 She looked on sensing confusion in the room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSorry sir, but she has something you might want to hear,\u201d Rigel said. \u201cShe overheard something about the commander and poisoning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crystal watched as the group\u2019s attention went from confused to sudden interest. She watched them now all look at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome in, close the door,\u201d the man in blue said. \u201cNow, what did you hear?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUm, well, something about this,\u201d she looked over at Rigel for the word again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIthian.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, to be used on Adama,\u201d Crystal said, watching everyone look at her.<\/p>\n<p>Crystal felt trapped by the sudden questions she could not make out, as three people started talking at once.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuiet,\u201d the man in blue said, taking a breath before continuing on. \u201cLieutenant, guest, what I\u2019m about to tell you is classified, we haven\u2019t told anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes sir,\u201d Rigel said, as now everyone looked over at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know anyone here yet except the people in the room,\u201d Crystal said, wondering what she had gotten herself into now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe commander\u2019s heart condition was a result of Ithian poisoning. We got lucky in that someone overheard the conversation that it was to be used on someone.\u00a0 At the time we didn\u2019t know it was the commander, and we kept it quiet while looking for the suspect.\u00a0 We found the person who did it, but they died before we were able to question them,\u201d the man said.<\/p>\n<p>Crystal watched as Rigel slapped her hands to her mouth in shock. Whatever they had been told, it meant a lot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere did you overhear this?\u201d the man asked. She was bombarded with intense emotions, coming from them all now and it seemed to overwhelm her for a moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you all right?\u201d Rigel\u2019s voice said, breaking though the confusing fog.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUm, yeah, honestly I\u2019m not sure. I thought I heard someone say something about the council,\u201d Crystal said, fearful of what they might think about her if she told the truth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps we should take her over to meet with the commander?\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n<p>She watched as they all contemplated that. She knew their answer before they said it.\u00a0 She would be heading over to meet another new person.\u00a0 Was he the one, the one with grey hair, and commanding presence she had seen before?<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Apollo walked into the office of his father, seeing him sitting there looking over a few reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are taking it easy?\u201d Apollo said, watching him look up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, between Cassiopeia and Athena, they are making sure I\u2019m not over-exerting myself,\u201d Adama said. \u201cWhat happened on your patrol?\u00a0 I haven\u2019t read the report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAh, no much to tell,\u201d Apollo said honestly. \u201cWe were checking out a planet, getting a recruit use to such things in case they had to do it themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, good introduction to it,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe checked out the planets in the system, one had some resources and life. Went down to check it out. I sent Jason to the charcoal deposit while I went to the town.\u00a0 In hindsight it should have gone the other way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, seems like there was a pervious ruler which they called emperor, who I happened to look like,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmazing,\u201d Adama replied. \u201cStrange how things work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, except they wanted to kill me. I ended up running, but went the wrong way at first and with a large crowd after me, well I didn\u2019t get far.\u00a0 Fortunately Jason got worried and came down to see what was going on.\u00a0 We managed to talk and I sent him for help.\u00a0 Figured Starbuck would be able to come up with a plan better than he would,\u201d Apollo said, recalling that moment.\u00a0 He wasn\u2019t scared and knew Starbuck would not let him down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learned that as I was on the way to the Galactica to resume some light duties, and Cassiopeia went off with the mission,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, anyways, they thought I was the emperor. Wasn\u2019t going to get a trial, whoever this guy was he must have terrorized them,\u201d Apollo said.\u00a0 \u201cI had two visitors, one basically said that, the other, she knew I wasn\u2019t him, but also seemed disappointed.\u00a0 Anyways, Starbuck and his group came up as they were taking me out to be executed.\u00a0 The woman was with them and confronted this guy, and then the guards charged them.\u00a0 They had their weapons set to stun and shot a few which allowed us to escape.\u00a0 The woman asked to be brought with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see, so any further attempts of diplomacy?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t think it\u2019ll work,\u201d Apollo said honestly. \u201cEspecially after what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo bad,\u201d Adama said. \u201cNow, about this woman, you said something interesting happened?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, she mentioned overhearing a conversation about you being poisoned,\u201d Apollo said, pausing a moment. \u201cShe\u2019s unusual, that much is for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, how so?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know, just a hunch, she\u2019s hiding something from us,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe came over with you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, she\u2019s waiting with Starbuck and Cassiopeia in the officer\u2019s club,\u201d Apollo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps we should go meet her,\u201d Adama said, standing up.<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Crystal felt a bit out of place in the room. It was not a bar like she knew.\u00a0 There were no loud, ruckus people in here.\u00a0 People were drinking, but she felt an air of calm, relaxation she never felt back home.\u00a0 Looking at the two who were watching her she could feel the emotions coming from them.\u00a0 They liked each other a lot.\u00a0 She had missed it earlier on, but now, it was evident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, what did you do?\u201d Cassiopeia asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did what I could, odd jobs, and other things I\u2019d rather not talk about,\u201d Crystal said. She had done a lot in her short life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow old are you?\u201d Starbuck asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEighteen summers,\u201d Crystal said. \u201cBeen on my own for most of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I can understand that,\u201d Starbuck said. \u201cOrphan as well?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrphan?\u201d Crystal asked, unsure of the name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy parents were killed in the war, as least I think so. There\u2019s a guy who might be my father,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUm, no I was abandoned,\u201d she said, not really the truth but close enough. When her parents discovered her abilities they tossed her out.\u00a0 \u201cYou lived on a planet as well?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, but when I was old enough I joined the military, wanted to get back at the Cylons,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I was a socialator,\u201d Cassiopeia said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d Crystal said, sensing something.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI worked in the arts of body pleasures, everything from just talking to sex,\u201d Cassiopeia stated. \u201cWhere I was it was considered an honorable career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The words washed over Crystal. A woman who might understand and unable to help it, tears came to her eyes.\u00a0 She had no idea how, but found herself in the blonde\u2019s embrace, comforting, reaching her very soul.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou okay,\u201d Cassiopeia asked a few moments later. She looked up to see on she and her, Starbuck had moved off talking to a group close by.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah,\u201d she said, feeling the emotions from Cassiopeia, all concern. Wiping her eyes a bit from the tears as she was handed a cloth to wipe her face and a drink.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere, you look like you could use it,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n<p>Crystal took a drink, and coughed a bit at the strong drink. It had been unexpected, but it tasted good.\u00a0 She relaxed a bit taking another drink this time able to enjoy the taste.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe commander wants to see us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen go on ahead, I\u2019ll be fine here,\u201d Crystal said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wants to see you as well,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh.\u201d Crystal felt surprised, but finished her drink and headed off with them down another maze of corridors she felt she would never get used to.<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Crystal entered the room, seeing Apollo sitting there, along with Aaron. She spotted the man in blue with white hair and stopped.\u00a0 He was the one she had seen.\u00a0 He was a powerful man from her visions.\u00a0 He led a group of people, and she realized, this was the group here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome in,\u201d he said warmly to her. She had expected something else, a more commanding voice, rough not warm.<\/p>\n<p>Crystal took a seat looking on as the man looked at her. She felt uneasy for the first time in a long time, until she realized she felt nothing coming from him.\u00a0 Did that mean something?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy name is Adama, commander of the Galactica and the fleet,\u201d he said to her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m Crystal, it\u2019s a pleasure to meet you\u201d she replied, doing a curtsy like she had been taught when meeting other leaders.<\/p>\n<p>She heard him chuckled slightly before he replied. \u201cIt\u2019s a pleasure to meet you as well,\u2019 he said.\u00a0 \u201cPlease have a seat, I\u2019m not royalty, just a military man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you not the leader?\u201d Crystal asked confused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a council that works to guide us, I\u2019m one of twelve,\u201d Adama replied back to her. \u201cI hear you overheard a conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUm, yeah,\u201d Crystal said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould you recognize him, or tell us where you were when you saw him. It could narrow down our search,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n<p>Crystal could feel the overwhelming desire by the others to know this information. It was very important to them, that much she could feel for certain.\u00a0 However, her fear of them finding out about her warred with giving them this information.\u00a0 What should she do, she could not expose her abilities and alienate her only friends here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou did hear them right?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes,\u201d Crystal said in a whisper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease we need to know where, before anyone else gets hurt in all of this,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t exactly hear him,\u201d Crystal finally said. Silence greeted her statement before she continued on in a quiet voice, looking down at the floor, unable to look into eyes that might hate her.\u00a0 \u201cI saw it in his mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She wanted to curl up and hide after saying that. Would they toss her out like so many others had?\u00a0 She looked up after the silence stretched out to see Adama mere looking back at her, his expression unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see,\u201d he finally said, moving a small glass to the center of his desk.<\/p>\n<p>She watched as after a few seconds, it moved on its own. If she had not seen it, she would have described it as sorcery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have what we call telepathy, or the ability to read minds. It\u2019s rare, but not unknown,\u201d Adama said to her.\u00a0 \u201cUntrained, and quite strong, very rare.\u00a0 I take by your reactions you were shunned by others on your world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes,\u201d Crystal said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can train you to understand your talents, and use them at will,\u201d Adama said, catching her by surprise. \u201cNow, where did you come into contact with the person?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the hallway, he knocked me down, when we touched it was overwhelming,\u201d Crystal said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe senator,\u201d Aaron said suddenly, as every eye went to him. \u201cWe ran into one of the councilmembers, knocked Crystal over, looked down at her and stormed off saying we should look where we\u2019re going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you know which one?\u201d Apollo asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, but I would recognize him,\u201d Aaron said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay, and I have another plan as well,\u201d Adama said, suddenly looking over at Crystal. \u201cYou worked with the leaders of your world?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe emperor, yes,\u201d Crystal said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I think you should meet with the council,\u201d Adama said. Crystal looked on to see him smiling.\u00a0 She felt very unsure about everything.\u00a0 Their acceptance of her had been unexpected.\u00a0 They were still there, no one had gone running from the room, nor did any of them seem to fear her.\u00a0 She would need time to process it all.\u00a0 \u201cI also think, for now, we keep her abilities a secret, at least for a few days.\u00a0 Don\u2019t tell anyone unless they ask.\u00a0 Its all part of a plan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Crystal worked with the commander as he prepared her to meet with the council. He wanted her to pick out the person, and see if she felt anything else.\u00a0 While she did that, the others were doing some investigating that Crystal did not understand.\u00a0 Terms like \u2018black market\u2019 or name changes.<\/p>\n<p>Adama had told her that he wished her to meet the council to inform them of her hoomeworld, and her petition to be part of the Colonies. Not that he would toss her out.\u00a0 For her, it felt odd to work with someone, be touched or touch without some ability to feel what they were either feeling or thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, she did not feel it all the time, but usually strong emotions she would feel at least once. In a way, she felt glad for it.\u00a0 He treated her normally, something she always wished for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReady?\u201d Adama asked, as they approached the council room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI guess,\u201d Crystal said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust be yourself,\u201d Adama told her as he placed a hand on her shoulder and led her into the room.<\/p>\n<p>Like everything on board, it was beyond what she had ever seen. Sitting at the table were eleven others as Adama led her to the head.\u00a0 He sat down and look at the group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs this the young woman who wishes to join us?\u201d one man asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes Sirus,\u201d Adama replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think she can answer for herself,\u201d another man said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes I am, I\u2019m Crystal,\u201d she said, doing a small curtsy to them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone with manner, surprising,\u201d another man said.<\/p>\n<p>Crystal looked around with the realization this was no different than council meetings with Brandon, in fact, ignore the technology and their body language was almost identical. With that knowledge, she squared herself, a battle of was about to begin.<\/p>\n<p>The group went around and introduced themselves to her. The names blurred a bit, something she was never too good with.\u00a0 She looked at their eyes, seeing a few were warm, welcoming, others not so much.\u00a0 She could also feel a mixed emotions from them all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not that comfortable with this. Why would you leave your group to join ours?\u201d one said, and she recalled his name as Armhe.\u00a0 Everyone looked back at her.\u00a0 This was the challenge and she could almost feel Brandon with her now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what don\u2019t you feel comfortable with?\u201d Crystal said, looking at the man before walking over to him. \u201cWhat could I threaten you with?\u00a0 I come from a world all of this is magic.\u00a0 What could I process that could make you feel uncomfortable?\u00a0 You have more knowledge on how the universe works than I do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She paused at his chair, bringing her hand down on the man next to his shoulder. An unconscious behavior taught to her by Brandon as she waited for the answer from the man.\u00a0 After a few seconds of silence she forced herself to remain calm at the sudden images she got from the man.\u00a0 She looked around at the group, noticing they had not expected that from her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI pose no threat to you. I do not know how to fight, I barely know how your instruments work, and I get lost easily on this ship,\u201d Crystal said, walking back touching each person as she gave a point before stopping next to Adama, placing her hand on his shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>The group looked back towards Armhe who paused for a second. He seemed to back down, as the talk turned to her home, reasons why she wanted to join and if she understood their position.\u00a0 Crystal answered and listened patiently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, you wish to stay, despite the fact you may never set foot on a planet again,\u2019 Rexx, one of the members she had finally learned a name from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, back home I am dead the moment I am captured. Here, I have a chance at a fresh start, despite the peril,\u201d Crystal said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will give us a chance to learn from her as well,\u201d Rexx said. \u201cI think it\u2019s a great idea.\u00a0 We might never know when something she knows might help us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI agree,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen we welcome you aboard,\u201d Uri said to her.<\/p>\n<p>The group broke up and Adama ushered her back out and to his room where Apollo and Starbuck were waiting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFind anything?\u201d Adama asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPossible,\u201d Starbuck said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did,\u201d Crystal said, as they looked at her. She told them what she had seen.\u00a0 Adama listened patiently before asking for the council member to be brought to him.<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>Adama sat at the table waiting for his attacker to enter the room. Apollo disagreed with this idea, but Adama felt it best.\u00a0 He had been slightly shocked to learn who it had been, but combined with what the group found out, it almost made sense, and why he had been so agreeable to Crystal.\u00a0 Fresh starts were indeed wondrous.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The chime indicated he was here, and Adama granted him permission to enter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou wanted to see me Adama,\u201d the man said, walking in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes Rexx, have a seat,\u201d Adama replied, watching him sit down. \u201cI\u2019ve found out s few things over the last couple of days, and I am disappointed to discover you are behind them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not sure what you\u2019re talking about?\u201d Rexx said, calmly. He was smooth even when caught.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSure you do, you wanted me out of the way so you hired a man to poison me with Ithian,\u201d Adama said. \u201cQuite ingenious I might say, with eth knowledge of past heart problems no one would have thought to look for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adama watched as Rexx paled at the news a bit. They both knew the consequences for such actions.\u00a0 However, Adama had other plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must admit, I wanted to arrest you right away, lock you up, toss the key away, but we also know there is more to your story, yes?\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes there is,\u201d Rexx said, a bit defeated at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d Adama asked, catching Rexx off guard a bit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPower,\u201d Rexx replied honestly. \u201cRemove you and the rest are easier to manipulate, even Uri.\u00a0 Settle down somewhere, forget this Earth business.\u00a0 The people deserve to live free, not trapped in cages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see,\u201d Adama said. \u201cthen we have a same goal.\u00a0 I want my grandson to grow up chasing bugs though a large park, not in the hull of a spaceship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, I also know the danger still lurks behind us. We haven\u2019t put that much distance between us and the Cylons.\u00a0 If they catch us now, even with three battlestars, defense will be hard at best.\u00a0 The mobile fleet provides us a better chance,\u201d Adama said, watching Rexx.\u00a0 He was quite for several seconds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, now what?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also know you were once Recci Exxape, a crime lord of tremendous power, and you were against the peace treaty,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBad for business,\u201d Rexx said very logically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, but here, you are Rexx, a trusted councilman. A fresh start, much like Crystal,\u201d Adama said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re keeping me on the council? Why?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe both want the same thing, to protect our people,\u201d Adama said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be much of a leader if I ignored opposing views.\u00a0 Stay on the council and continue with your beliefs, just stay away from assassinations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll try,\u201d Rexx said, standing up. \u201cYou\u2019re a formidable man commander, I wish we had more of you on the council before Baltar\u2019s betrayal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He left the room leaving Adama to wonder about that.
